Figured since the trade has been made we could just scrap the old thread and start anew.
Jalen Carter said to have put on 9 pounds since the combine. Curious as to whether that’s “good” weight. Wouldn’t think so. This is a guy who admitted he wasn’t in shape for the college playoffs.
-
Definite red flags. But NFL GMs will still take him early because SEC defense.
-
Certainly an enticing prospect. I just think I’d be willing to let someone else roll the dice on him. Especially if I can get someone to trade up for him.
-
I think he’s a defense/game-changing prospect if healthy and you think he’ll be cleared of all charges. You absolutely take him at 9 if available in my opinion.

What would the Raiders or Cowboys do?
-
Fair point. Flus said “we’ll be an effort based football team” when hired.
Beyond legal troubles for Jalen Carter, the Bears must also consider his on-field inconsistency, Brad Biggs told Mully & Haugh.
“I don’t know how you could preach the HITS principle if you’ve got one of your top players out there turning it on and off," Biggs says.
-
Or it’s possible Dan Campbell said that. Either way, both are always preaching effort. Like more than most coaches (although I’m sure all value it).
-
Jacob Infante believes the Bears should be on the phone with the Colts regarding the availability of DeForest Buckner. I second that option.

Absolutely, and I’d be surprised if that conversation hasn’t happened. I think I heard that Buckner is Flus’ favorite player he’s ever had.

I thought this was funny.

Jalen Carter is having a really bad 90 days.
-
Unless they take him with their 1st pick, Kancey seems unlikely. Unless there’s a trade down. I’d love for Carter or Levis to slide to 9 and the Bears trade out of it. Preferably with someone in the teens. Then a Bijan Robinson/Kancey (or Adebawore) is plausible. I’m perfectly fine going late 1st, early 2nd for their top DL pick (considering the draft is loaded with excellent prospect at DL day 1 and 2. Some people are touting Robinson as the best RB prospect in several years. Would love to have him.

Really sucks not having that Claypool pick.

What do you guys think of Devon Witherspoon? Obviously talented, but 180ish is pretty light. Would be very surprised if the Bears took a corner at 9, but I think it could be justified if they did.
-
He’s clearly the #1 corner in this draft. That Illini secondary was/is elite. They all killed it at the combine and pro days. Witherspoon will be a top-10 pick and it’s completely justified.
-
I would be just fine with Jaylon Johnson and Devon Witherspoon as our corners.

And Kyler Gordon as your nickel makes your CB room elite. That would have to be pretty close to as good as any corner trio in the league.

Would love to see this. Would like to see the Bears trade down another 6-7 spots though. I rarely see him taken earlier than high teens in mocks. If you can get a generational talent, do it.

It’s a long-term rebuild. There are lots of draft picks outside of the 9th pick. Plus, there will be cap casualties and trades are still on the table. Would not be surprised if a solid to excellent OL or DL is signed via FA or traded for.

2 years is "long-term"? Isn't that what they have? Next year 7-9 wins, then an additional 3-5 wins the year after?
-
Long-term as in everything won’t be fully fixed in one year. They still have lots of needs. They won’t all be 100% adequately addressed this year.

Right now Poles is adding depth and value, and I think that’s a very smart approach.

It would go a lot faster if you traded Fields for Lamar, that's for sure.

Seeing as how Lamar quit on his team in the playoffs, I’m surprised you still like him. Or do you only save your wrath for females who “quit?”

I thought he was hurt? Even so, Lamar playing for pay and made a business decision if he was not hurt. She was playing for her country. But I appreciate your effort.

You like the guys who play hurt, just sayin’. I’m not saying he for sure quit on his team, but it sure looked like that possibility was on the table.
-
Trade down! Would be great if Levis and/or Carter fell to 9. I’d definitely trade with a division rival (in this case Minnesota). There’s probably a 65% chance or better Levis would suck.

Mock drafts are all over the place in their predictions. I have zero clue what to expect past the top 5.

Mental health decision my ass. It is the Olympics. Happens only every 4 years. Suck it up, snowflake.
As a result of that stunt, have you even heard about her after that Olympics? She is in the "Where are they now?" file.
-
I think we are all glad Mike Eruzione didn't decide to take a mental health day when playing against the fucking Soviets in 1980. Except for Tempo. He would be applauding and claiming he was an inspiration for quitters everywhere.

She’s the greatest female gymnast of all-time. She’s in the discussion for greatest female or even athlete of all-time.
It just goes to show the entitlement some people have. I’m sure you don’t give a piss about woman’s gymnastics, unless it comes to the Olympics. But man, if she doesn’t make you proud as an American, you’ll let people know it. Stick to the sports you pretend to care about.
-
Her seven Olympic medals tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by an American gymnast and is the equal ninth-most overall. Having won 25 World Championship medals, she is the most decorated gymnast in the history of the Gymnastics World Championships, and is considered by many sources to be the greatest gymnast of all time.[5

How unshocking that you chose a white male hockey player to contrast favorably with Simone Biles.
Not saying you’re racist, but you obviously aren’t very in tune with your biases.
-
And again, you display your sense of entitlement in a sport you couldn’t care less about except for two weeks every 4 years.

The crux of the point obviously was the defeat of the Soviets in the Olympics, which is one of the greatest underdog victories of ALL FUCKING TIME. Man, you are in Dan Bernstein Fucking Dipshit Territory with some of these takes.

Your ability to cut and paste Wikipedia is impressive, though. Yeah, where is she now? Olga Korbut and Nadia Comaneci weren't quitters.

You need a clue.

Here you go, everyone is glad Henry Aaron (probably still the most underrated baseball player of all-time given his all around game) didn't take a mental health day on April 8, 1974, given all the death threats he received, when breaking Babe Ruth's home run record against Al Downing. Except Tempo. He loves quitters instead of those that attempt to overcome adversity.

Yes and no, she was facing the Commie Chinese and was the overwhelming favorite, wasn't she?

Again, she’s the most decorated gymnast of all-time. I’d bet she’s “overcome adversity” on more than one occasion. But only PAMan’s ignorant opinion matters! She didn’t “overcome adversity” this one time in the Olympics in a sport ThePAMan doesn’t give a shit about. Therefore she deserves his criticism! Nevermind the fact she’s the most decorated American Olympic gymnast of all-time. She didn’t do it that one time, and that displeases ThePAMan!

Stars shine on the biggest stage. She failed. And took someone else's spot. We all know you would have been happy if Bart Connor declared himself a woman and taken her spot.
-
[In winning those four gold medals, Biles set an American record for the most gold medals won by a woman gymnast in a single Olympic Games. She also joined teammate Gabby Douglas as one of only two American women to win both the individual all-around and the team gold at the same Olympics.]

Outside of unimportant punctuation distinctions, how is it different?

You going full Robb on me here? Hopefully I didn’t misspell her name and spread misinformation.

There, I fixed it. I added quotation marks and a question mark to the “Where they now?” part. Other than that, it was always word for word.

Is Jonathon Toews a quitter?

The punctuation is not unimportant if you are quoting me "verbatim." I remain unsure whether you know what "verbatim" actually means.

Apparently she quit using birth control also. Judging from the timing of the birth, maybe she had other things on her mind than defeating the Commie Chinese at the Olympiad.
-
Is Jonathon Toews a quitter?
Does not appear he can physically do it anymore, which is far different from purported mental issues. He should retire. Lot of rough miles on him. Played 200 feet.

You never answered the question. Is Jonathon Toews a “quitter?” He’s played dozens upon dozens of games in his condition. Clearly he could “fight through” this. QUITTER.

So physical health reasons are excusable (even though he could play through it), but if you cite mental health reasons and you are WEAK. Everyone, welcome TheToxicMasculinityMan to the HQ.

He has. And he has not been any good in so doing. He physically, as opposed to mentally, is unable to perform at a high, or even average, level anymore.
Given how you do not understand the word "verbatim," I can see how the difference here is mentally challenging for you.

He has played through it and was not any good. He's 34 years old and does not have it anymore. If it is Long COVID, auto-immune whatever, his body cannot do it. I am sure mentally he still has the same drive.
Biles blamed her "mental health." If it was physical, she should have said so.

Of course you do not because you used some shitty online dictionary apparently. Try using a real dictionary next time like Cambridge or Oxford. "Verbatim" is to use the same words in the same way they were originally used orally or as written. The "quotes" were part of the written sentence. Ergo, to be a verbatim transcription, they needed to be included.

Right, so you equate prioritizing mental health over (satisfaction of ThePAMan) as WEAKNESS.
No. I am saying she was full of shit when she blamed "mental health issues."

You bet, Robb.

I am unsure what his physical condition was when he was on the ice. I know he did not perform at the same level as he had in the past. That happens as you age. It also happens when you age and played as he did for years and maybe have other physical issues. When your body won't perform, it is not "mental."
Do you actually think you are scoring any points here? You are looking like an idiot, more so than usual.

I’m not the one who thinks my comments on Toews are to be taken literally. So who is the idiot here?

The comment that perhaps the greatest female athlete in recorded history is at 26, in “The where are they now?” file, is a level of idiocy that stands very tall on its own.

I turned it off before the movie started, but your contribution is appreciated.
Just checking. I hate it when people are on their phone during a movie.

So are you one of those idiots who blames action movies for school shootings?
Nope. I’m saying that our culture glorifies all this violence and whether you believe it or not, our society/youth is/are becoming extremely desensitized from violence. Making those that normal is not healthy.

I’d be shocked to see this happen. Detroit already has DeAndre Swift (but has a problem staying healthy), and signed Montgomery. If they added Robinson they’d have 3 legit starters at RB. Seems like a waste of resources for a team that’s desperate to “win now.”

In all seriousness, I don’t think they will. But I also don’t expect him to be get past Seattle or Detroit. Whatever Spidey senses I may have seem to tell me they are trading down. And I also expect them to not draft an OT 1st pick. Not sure why, just the vibe I’m getting.

If they do not pick any lineman, what position will they shoot for? Aren't the WRs in this draft ok? Isn't it a strong TE draft? But they have ND Boy. LB? QB (HA!)?
-
I just found this in my Google feed, and I agree with it. I expect Poles to throw everyone a curve. I could see CB or WR. I’d love for it to be Bijan Robinson, but I’d prefer they trade down about 10 spots and hopefully he’s there.
My ideal draft day: Bears come away with Robinson, Adadewore (or maybe Clancey by miracle), and go OL with the 3rd pick.
If they went CB, WR 1st pick id be ok with it. I think they can find a tackle after cap cuts. There are some serviceable guys out there. I think Poles has a lot of confidence in his ability to scout OL so I could see him addressing that later.
Trade down with Pitts, see if you can get that 32nd pick back. Would be some Kevin Costner shit there! And then draft Vontae Mack, no matter what.

If you’re insinuating you think I’ll have a meltdown, won’t happen. I totally get why they’d take him. And deep down there’s a part of me that would be excited about it. Just not what I would do. I’d be willing to “be wrong” on Carter.

I’m still a big fan of the idea of trading down again. Especially if there is a player that’s covered sitting there, like a QB or Carter.
It’s a strong year for CBs. I’m warming up to the idea of taking one.

There are a half dozen different draft scenarios that could all be perfectly justifiable. Probably the only way I’d come out of day 1 angry is if Poles went all Ryan Pace and drafted a guy 40 spots too high.

This is probably the mock I would choose for most likely to be in the ball park. But I think Levis and Smith go much higher. If there isn’t a DL they covet, I think there’s a good chance the Bears move down.
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/nfl-mock-draft-2023-jets-add-protection-for-newly-acquired-aaron-rodgers-in-what-teams-should-do-mock/

Apparently Levis is making an 11th hour push up the board. Can’t wait for draft night!
-
Yeah I’m actually excited for the draft this year. It’s nice when your team has a good pick, plenty of options, and has a competent GM.
-
Cannot tell you how relieved I am that the Pace/Nagy era is over.
I really like Poles’ (apparent) vision. I think he’s playing the long game, and seems to be playing it well. Only two complaints I have are the Velus Jones pick and the Claypool trade. Poles could have a chance to undo the Claypool error if Pittsburgh is seriously interested in that 9th pick per reports.
I’m perfectly fine building the bones of the roster through quality starters and depth, and being patient. I don’t think there is a “must have” player at 9, unless Carter falls there. The pick makes a lot of sense, even if it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
-

Probably the most excited I’ve ever been for a draft. At least since I was young, for sure.
-
And lastly, what’s cool about this draft is that there are a lot of viable options. Outside of QB, TE, LB, S you could completely justify any pick in the 1st round (positionally). I’m cautiously optimistic the Bears could be vastly improved this year. And then they will still be set up well going into FA and the draft next year as well.

What record do you expect the Bears to finish with this year?
After looking at their schedule this morning, I think there’s reason for optimism. The schedule couldn’t be a whole lot friendlier. I’ll wait till August or so to make a prediction. But I do think the Bears COULD be among the most improved teams in the league, or possibly the most improved.

I get that the Bears need OL and DL, but they have tons of draft capital and money. They can afford to “take a risk” on a RB. Especially one that has a realistic chance of being the best RB in the league for the next 5 years. I don’t care if it’s not en vogue to draft a RB in the 1st round, elite playmakers will always be at a premium. He’s an excellent receiver, too. I think he makes the offense way more dangerous.

Everyone knows, when you need to rebuild almost your whole roster in one offseason to be competitive, the most reasonable thing to do is take as big a risk you can at a non-premium position with your most valuable asset.

There’s also more than one way to skin a cat. Sure, you “can get a RB in the later rounds.” Can you get a guy they are comparing to LaDanian Tomlinson in the 4th round? Probably not. Elite playmakers will always be in demand. And the Bears need more, on both sides of the ball.

I like the idea of “taking a chance” on Robinson because the Bears basically have 7 picks in the first two rounds this year and next. And it would be 8 most likely if they traded down a few spots, is what I’ve been advocating.
-

Did not. Heard Stroud is the last minute favorite to go 2nd. I think there’s going to be a run on QBs early, and that’s great news for the Bears. I’m kind of hoping they end with Witherspoon.

It’s got to be Anderson. Wonder what the compensation is.
-
I see the draft location includes the National WWl Museum and Memorial. A must-see in Kansas City.
-
Saban rocking the pink sport coat.
-
Wow, Houston trading up to 3.
Oh shit, that’s REALLY bold!
-
Texans announcing their presence with authority.
-
Obviously a QB coming next.
-
Pass Rushers seem to be the least bustable top picks.
The last one that somewhat busted was Clowney
-
Wonder what the Texans gave up to move to 3?
Levis going next.
-
Did not. Heard Stroud is the last minute favorite to go 2nd. I think there’s going to be a run on QBs early, and that’s great news for the Bears. I’m kind of hoping they end with Witherspoon.
3 QBs off board at 4. Who will it be?
-
Richardson to Colts.
-
Wonder what the Texans gave up to move to 3?
Levis going next.

Cardinals got a nice haul.
-
Oh shit! Anthony Richardson! This draft is full of all kinds of surprises! 😳

Cardinals got a nice haul.
Wow…
-
They gave up too much for Anderson.
-

Cardinals got a nice haul.
WOW!!!! 😮 that’s ALOT!
Way too much. With no lube 😬
-
Their roster sucks. They need those picks.
-
WOW!!!! 😮 that’s ALOT!
Way too much. With no lube 😬
There’s a good chance that #1 pick is the overall #1 next year lol
-
Carter to Seahawks?
-
There’s a good chance that #1 pick is the overall #1 next year lol
In.fucking.sane.
-
WOW!!!! 😮 that’s ALOT!
Way too much. With no lube 😬
Dumb. They might have the only roster in the NFL worse than the Bears going into the offseason.
-
Bears will be up before you know it!
-
Ok, after this pick I want your Bears prediction. Let’s see what Seattle does first.
-
Wow, Witherspoon to Seattle!
-
Damn Devin Witherspoon #5!!! Way to go Bielema
-
Wow, Witherspoon to Seattle!
That’s fucking awesome!
-
Damn, was falling in love with the idea of Witherspoon to Bears. No way Carter slips past Detroit, right?
I think it’s looking like Tyree Wilson to the Bears.
-
Lions trade pick to Cardinals, wow!
-
Schefter thinks they take an OT. That would seem like a dumb trade up IMO.
-
Paris Johnson Jr. to Cards.
Carter may make it to 9 afterall.
-
All kinds of crazy shit going on.
-
Wow, about anything could happen now. Pretty likely one of Carter or Wilson will be there at 9. Possibly both?
-
These kids are decked out lol
-
If the Bears find a trade partner, I think they trade down.
-
If Carter and Wilson are both there, I think they go Wilson.
-
Anxiety is starting to set in for me lol
-
Bears should not let Levis get by them. He’s the best QB in the draft.
-
I want Bijan, but I get not taking him. Lol
Wilson to Raiders.
-
Bears should not let Levis get by them. He’s the best QB in the draft.
Lmao
-
Tyree Wilson wins the pimp of the year award for that outfit
-
These kids are decked out lol
Hell yeah.
Bears gonna get Carter!!
-
So apparently GMs think the red flags on Carter are real.
-
Pleeeeaaassseeeee!!!!!
-
Hell yeah.
Bears gonna get Carter!!
Looks like it. Feels icky, but it’s probably the right thing to do.
-
I wonder if Bears trade down (Pittsburgh) if Carter is there. I’d love that.
Lots of chatter about Bijan to ATL. That makes no sense to me, but it’s ATL so that would check out.
-
Bears traded almost out of the 1st rd 😂
-
Bears traded back to 10. Pick up a 4th.
Bijan to ATL
-
Bears are going to take Skoronski.
-
Just announce the picks, assholes. Everyone knows the NFL doesn't give a shit about anything other than owner profits.
-
Bears traded almost out of the 1st rd 😂
They traded down one spot.
-
Sucks Bijan is off the board.
-
They traded down one spot.
What did they get for 1 spot?
-
What did they get for 1 spot?
A 4th rounder.
I like it.
-
What did they get for 1 spot?
A 4th round pick in 2024
-
Not thrilled with the return on the trade. A 3rd this year sounds a lot better.
-
I hope they trade down again.
-
If it’s Carter I’ll be pissed if Philly gets him 😡
-
Carter to Philly.
-
A 4th rounder.
I like it.
Why is an Eagle 4th pick in 2024 worth anything?
-
Son of a bitch!
-
And the Eagles just got the best player in the draft
-
Bears choose culture over talent. I’m good with the stand. I just hope they get more than the last pick in the 4th round next year for it.
-
Why is an Eagle 4th pick in 2024 worth anything?
If they don’t trade down again for something a fair bit juicier it’ll be disappointing.
-
Watch Jalen Carter go to the hall of fame. Because Bears.
-
Bears pick is in.
-
No idea who now. Gonzalez or a tackle I guess?
-
Darnell Wright. Beef up the line. I like it.
-
Other than the drag racing, I don’t think there’s much character concern.
The only concern with 300+ pounders is if they can stay in shape
-
Watch Jalen Carter go to the hall of fame. Because Bears.
This might haunt them for a LONG time…
-
Other than the drag racing, I don’t think there’s much character concern.
The only concern with 300+ pounders is if they can stay in shape
The fact that he couldn’t be bothered to be in shape for his pro day bothered me even more than the crash.
-
Fuck, that was the worst case scenario for me in this draft. Was perfect up until that. They CHOSE to pass on Carter when given the opportunity. Unbelievable.
-
Darnell Wright.
Feels disappointing. But safe.
-
😂 Bears took a dude not even there
-
Poles loves his reaches from Tennessee…
-
Darnell Wright.
Feels disappointing. But safe.
He handled Anderson easily in the Alabama game.
-
Months of talk leading up to this draft, and the pick is Darnell Wright.
Awesome.
-
I don’t know, I don’t hate the pick, but man it feels bad for some reason. I think he’s a helluva player though.
-
Months of talk leading up to this draft, and the pick is Darnell Wright.
Awesome.
Wait, you aren't glad Fields lost all those close games so they could pick a tackle who is not even at the draft???
-
Poles loves his reaches from Tennessee…
Ha. Good catch. I think Wright is a solid pick. Just not super exciting.
-
Wait, you aren't glad Fields lost all those close games so they could pick a tackle who is not even at the draft???
And…1st round pick. 2nd round pick. 3rd round pick. DJ Moore…
-
I think it's a great pick.
Bears have turned their 1st overall pick into a 2nd this year, a 1st and a 4th next year, a 2nd the year after, DJ Moore, and a potential stalwart tackle to protect their most important asset.
I think that's a pretty nice haul. A lot more holes to plug but seems like they've created the assets to do it.
-
Wait, you aren't glad Fields lost all those close games so they could pick a tackle who is not even at the draft???
And now it’s “Fields’” fault again? Instead of the roster sucking all around? You are such a putz.
-
Wait, you aren't glad Fields lost all those close games so they could pick a tackle who is not even at the draft???
For some reason, I don’t know why, this reminds me of when Cedric Benson was picked by the Bears, and he cried.
-

I was going off memory and misremembered. But yeah, leave it to PAMan to cry about “Fields losing all those games” for a “tackle that wasn’t even there.” And leave out all the other compensation.
-
And now it’s “Fields’” fault again? Instead of the roster sucking all around? You are such a putz.
You were glad he threw the ball to his ex-OSU teammate for a pick 6 in the Lion game
-
I feel like they could have gotten more for Carter. That deal was a little too much of a buddy deal.
-
I was going off memory and misremembered. But yeah, leave it to PAMan to cry about “Fields losing all those games” for a “tackle that wasn’t even there.” And leave out all the other compensation.
It's perfectly PAMan to give a fuck whether the dude was at the draft or not instead of whether he can play.
-
For some reason, I don’t know why, this reminds me of when Cedric Benson was picked by the Bears, and he cried.
Yeah, can’t imagine why this reminds you of that.
-
I'm fine with the pick. Sure beats picking CJ Stroud or Richardson.
-
Will be interesting to see who turns out better, Wright or Skoronski. Lots of telling things about Poles from these decisions. Will be able to tell pretty quick if he’s a good GM or not after this draft.
Looks like we traded guards with the Titans.
-
Levis is plummeting
-
If Carter was never Poles guy, then might as well get an extra pick for him.
-
Now that is a terrible pick by the Lions.
A 5’9 RB
-
Yeah, can’t imagine why this reminds you of that.
That’s why I said I don’t know why. Lol
-
I'm fine with the pick. Sure beats picking CJ Stroud or Richardson.
That’s racist
-
Bad pick by the Lions. Yikes
-
Lions reminding us that they are in fact still the Lions.
-
It's perfectly PAMan to give a fuck whether the dude was at the draft or not instead of whether he can play.
And perfectly PAMan to immediately return to the “Fields losing all those games” trope when he admitted the entire team sucked. And then not mention the rest of the considerable compensation they got for the #1 pick.
-
Gibbs goes off board much earlier than expected. I guess not everyone thinks RB is unimportant.
-
Lions reminding us that they are in fact still the Lions.
Swift is a really good player. He just can’t play 16-17 games. I wish the Bears had Swift.
-
Gibbs goes off board much earlier than expected. I guess not everyone thinks RB is unimportant.
Well it’s the Lions…
Although Barry Sanders says hi 😂
-
That’s racist
Mr. Wright is African American.
I am on a text chain where a guy, who loves Cole Kmet, is pissed they didn't pick the NU guard guy.
-
Lions thinking every short fast guy is the next Tyreek Hill, when Tyreek Hill is the anomaly for guys his size
-
Watch the Packers select Levis 😂
-
And perfectly PAMan to immediately return to the “Fields losing all those games” trope when he admitted the entire team sucked. And then not mention the rest of the considerable compensation they got for the #1 pick.
Great trolling job to get the Board's two Nancys going.
-
Watch the Packers select Levis 😂
I was thinking the same thing, lol
-
Gibbs goes off board much earlier than expected. I guess not everyone thinks RB is unimportant.
I don't think it's 'unimportant', but I think it's typically a pretty deep position, and more reliant than some other skill positions on a 5-person unit in front of them being solid. And I don't think the Bears really need a running back that badly, either. Didn't they just sign Foreman?
-
I’m not surprised the Bears traded out of Carter. I am surprised they did it for next to nothing.
Thought I’d be a lot more fired up after this pick.
-
Great trolling job to get the Board's two Nancys going.
It’s too easy, isn’t it?
-
Packers tanking for Caleb Williams next year with that pick
-
We shall see 2x a year how correct Judge Judy is about this Van Ness guy
-

Foreman is a journeyman. As Herbert will be. They don’t have a good receiving back outside of their #3. I wanted an explosive relief valve for Fields.
-
I’m not surprised the Bears traded out of Carter. I am surprised they did it for next to nothing.
Thought I’d be a lot more fired up after this pick.
Who should they have taken?
-
It’s too easy, isn’t it?
I don't believe I will ever be able to top you faking your own death.
-
If Carter was never Poles guy, then might as well get an extra pick for him.
Basically a 5th. Next year. Not enough.
-
I’m not surprised the Bears traded out of Carter. I am surprised they did it for next to nothing.
Thought I’d be a lot more fired up after this pick.
All these months of cheering for the tank and now you are disappointed when they wisely take a lineman?
-
Basically a 5th. Next year. Not enough.
This isn't Madden man.
They could've just taken their guy and let the Eagles take Carter for nothing, but obviously that's worse.
I'd imagine if another team was willing to offer more to take Carter, they would've.
-
So, who the hell takes Levis? Commanders?
-
Tampa or Seattle will probably take Levis.
If Seattle gets the best CB and best QB in the draft, they will have had the best draft tonight
-
Lions thinking every short fast guy is the next Tyreek Hill, when Tyreek Hill is the anomaly for guys his size
Gibbs will be the best receiving back in the league.
-
We shall see 2x a year how correct Judge Judy is about this Van Ness guy
Son of a bitch! Pressure!
-
Gibbs will be the best receiving back in the league.
But a 3rd down back isn’t a guy you use a 1st rd pick on
-
Gibbs will be the best receiving back in the league.
Well, he will be playing with a QB who loves throwing the ball in the flat.
-
This isn't Madden man.
They could've just taken their guy and let the Eagles take Carter for nothing, but obviously that's worse.
I'd imagine if another team was willing to offer more to take Carter, they would've.
It just feels like Poles and Cunningham gave Philly the sweetheart deal.
-
It just feels like Poles and Cunningham gave Philly the sweetheart deal.
What are the alternatives.
I see at least one, which is 'take the guy you want at 9, and let them take Carter at 10'.
What's one alternative?
-
It just feels like Poles and Cunningham gave Philly the sweetheart deal.
Like Spark said. The Bear didn't want him and at least got a worthless 4 out of the Eagle.when moving back a spot.
-
Pretty surprised Poles went OL 1st round. Really felt like he was confident he could scoot the position outside of 1st. Jimmy Johnson said he would never take an OL in 1st round.
-
Wright should be a solid player, though.
-
What are the alternatives.
I see at least one, which is 'take the guy you want at 9, and let them take Carter at 10'.
What's one alternative?
Take Carter instead is the other obvious decision. Guess we’ll see how that plays out in the next year or two.
-
Pretty surprised Poles went OL 1st round. Really felt like he was confident he could scoot the position outside of 1st. Jimmy Johnson said he would never take an OL in 1st round.
If you get a good tackle on a rookie deal that is far more valuable than just about every other position except QB/CB.
If I was drafting first RD I’d only pick QB, CB, or OT
-
Yep. I think the move made it pretty clear that the Bears didn't see Carter as an option.
I do think he's coming into a pretty damn ideal situation, and it sounds like he has the talent - I can't really judge that very well myself.
-
I thought Make-a-Wish kids had to be on their death bed. Although this kid should announce all the picks
-
I feel like the girl who wanted the dangerous and exciting boyfriend and got the boring/safe boyfriend instead.
-
I hate saying this about a kid with cancer, but that kid seems like a prick.
-
I feel like the girl who wanted the dangerous and exciting boyfriend and got the boring/safe boyfriend instead.
No, I think you are just feeling how worthless it really was to root for losses bc tanking is never worth it unless it’s for a franchise QB
-
Tempo I think your optimism level for the Bears would be better if the Bears had finished 7-10 and picked the same guy they did tonight.
-
I hate saying this about a kid with cancer, but that kid seems like a prick.
He was annoying.

Okay, this made me laugh.
-
No, I think you are just feeling how worthless it really was to root for losses bc tanking is never worth it unless it’s for a franchise QB
Hahaha.
The Bears are going to fill a ton of holes with that #1 overall pick.
-
I love it when a team makes a pick, they show the fans of that team cheering, and you can tell they have no idea who the fuck the pick is, lol.
-
So, Bucs take Levis?
-
Seattle should pick Levis

So, Bucs take Levis?
Nope

He built this up for months. Can’t blame him for being disappointed.

The feds should be watching the idiots who dress up goofy and go to the draft.

Santa Claus didn't see his 9 wish lists.

I love it when a team makes a pick, they show the fans of that team cheering, and you can tell they have no idea who the fuck the pick is, lol.
Bucs fan?! 😂 I saw that too. He looked around after the name was called, then said yeah and cheered after others did 😂
-
Santa Claus didn't see his wish lists.
I WANTED BIJAN ROBINSON AND ONLY GOT A RIGHT TACKLE!!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Bucs fan?! 😂 I saw that too. He looked around after the name was called, then said yeah and cheered after others did 😂
Yeah. I’ve noticed it a few times.

I read he would have picked Carter at 9 but was fine with Wright as a tackle.
-
No, I think you are just feeling how worthless it really was to root for losses bc tanking is never worth it unless it’s for a franchise QB
I’m not disappointed they tanked. We’ve got DJ Moore and more high picks on the way.
-
Levis to Vikings?! 🤔
Or Saints at 30. Otherwise he doesn’t go 1st round I wouldn’t think…
-
I read he would have picked Carter at 9 but was fine with Wright as a tackle.
Huh. Surprises me that he wanted Carter.
-
The more I think about it, I’m happy with the Wright pick over Carter. Change of heart for me.
-
Tempo got so pissed about the Bear pick that he left?
Other shit to do. Clean up the kitchen. Help kid with his homework. Make his lunch. Put the kid to bed. Shower and get ready for bed. The exciting part of the night is over.
-
Tempo I think your optimism level for the Bears would be better if the Bears had finished 7-10 and picked the same guy they did tonight.
JFC you guys are myopic. They got a lot more than Darnell Wright you nitwits.
-
Chargers get Quentin Johnston. Good pick.
-
Other shit to do. Clean up the kitchen. Help kid with his homework. Make his lunch. Put the kid to bed. Shower and get ready for bed. The exciting part of the night is over.
Glad you are back.
The one guy they tell not to show up gets picked in the 1st round.
-
Sure seems like it.
See above post.
-
JFC you guys are myopic. They got a lot more than Darnell Wright you nitwits.
You are the one who is disappointed and deflated!

He built this up for months. Can’t blame him for being disappointed.
You guys are terrible at supposition.
-
Tempo got so pissed about the Bear pick that he left?
Just know that if you think you know the reason behind something, there’s about a 98% chance you’re wrong. Just some advice.
-

Still quite happy with the trade and return from Carolina. Thus, still happy with “the tank.”

What part of “he’s not the only thing we got for the #1 pick” do you not understand?
-
Did I want something more exciting? Yes. Am I mad we got a starting OT. Not really. He should be a good player. Yes, I wanted the shiny RB, but he wasn’t going to be there regardless.
-
Shouldn't have traded down so far.
-
Shouldn't have traded down so far.
Think he is at Acceptance and Hope Stage in the 7 Stages of Grief. Or at Bargaining. I am not an expert on this.
-
Levis and Hooker still on the board.
-
And the Vikes don't take either
-
My biggest disappointment is I feel we gave Carter away for next to nothing. I have ZERO regrets about the tank, or the trade, just so you and Dom are clear…
-
Jax gets a 5th and a 7th to allow the Giant to move up. Poles got fleeced for the 9th!
-
Jax gets a 5th and a 7th to allow the Giant to move up. Poles got fleeced for the 9th!
He and Cunningham are buddies with Roseman. They gave him the sweetheart deal on Carter. And the path to the Super Bowl will continue to go through Philly.
-
Rumors Pitts wanted to trade up with Bears for Paris Johnson maybe have been true.
-
Thought they’d be interested in Carter (Pittsburgh).
-

I don’t like that at all.

Loved the shots of him surrounded by high maintenance pussy, lol

Bills just have the middle finger to Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.

Yep that’s why I said it. He seems EXTREMELY full of himself.
-
Levis sure does seem like quite the prick though…
How was he smoke screened into a top 5 pick ?
-
How was he smoke screened into a top 5 pick ?
Apparently the Colts wanted him. Until they didn’t.
-
How was he smoke screened into a top 5 pick ?
Same thing happened to Rodgers, so we’ll see if he proves people wrong and uses it as motivation.
-
The Cowboys draft room looks like it could be a lair for a villain and his henchmen
-
Too bad the Bear didn't get the Clemson kid who majored in Construction and sketches NFL stadiums in his free time. Could have gotten a 2 for 1 and stole his stadium ideas.
-
Levis sure does seem like quite the prick though…
His sisters and GF are trending on Twitter before him.
-
Too bad the Bear didn't get the Clemson kid who majored in Construction and sketches NFL stadiums in his free time. Could have gotten a 2 for 1 and stole his stadium ideas.
Ok, now that’s pretty funny.
-
The Cowboys draft room looks like it could be a lair for a villain and his henchmen
You mean it isn’t?
-
Levis falling out of 1st round is nuts.
-
Wright is big and been described as “violent.” I like that. Shut out Will Anderson. That will come in handy when we play the Texans in the Super Bowl…
-
Rams would be smart to trade up for Levis. They will need a QB after Stafford is done
-
My biggest disappointment is I feel we gave Carter away for next to nothing. I have ZERO regrets about the tank, or the trade, just so you and Dom are clear…
But surely you see that the only real alternative was to let them have him for free. What are the Bears gonna do, demand a 3rd and walk if they say no?
-
Think he is at Acceptance and Hope Stage in the 7 Stages of Grief. Or at Bargaining. I am not an expert on this.
Was thinking the exact same thing and was going to make a very similar comment. Kudos
-
But surely you see that the only real alternative was to let them have him for free. What are the Bears gonna do, demand a 3rd and walk if they say no?
I just find it hard to believe they couldn’t find a better offer. Or you could have drafted him. And then even tried to trade him. Worst case scenario you’re stuck with possibly the best player in the draft at your biggest position of need.
I’m sure the disappointment of Bijan not being an option factors into my slight disappointment with the pick. I’m ok with the Wright pick, just feel like they didn’t necessarily get the most out of their spot.
-
Do you think Philly ups the offer a little if the Bears take him? I’d say good chance.
-
Instead, you gave the team you’re going to have to get past to get to the Super Bowl the player they covet for next to nothing.
-
Was thinking the exact same thing and was going to make a very similar comment. Kudos
Ok, poster boy.
-
Custard logs in and reads to make one post, and uses it to take a shot at me. What a putz. Grow up dude lol
-
Lol.
-
Did Levis and the girls bring 2 sets of clothes to KC ?
-
We needed bodies. We signed 0 star Witherspoon the 1st few days of August. A couple of days later he was in fall camp and played in every game.
Fast forward and the consensus All-American goes #5 in the draft.
Just a testament to him and the coaches.
Congratulations, Devon.

You are such a fucking moron. If only you had more grey matter and could understand nuance. I’m not necessarily disappointed in the pick. I’m disappointed in the value (and lack of value) they got. I think Wright is a solid pick, just not the value I think they could have gotten there. And for the 12th time, they got a lot more for tanking than Darnell Wright you freaking moron.
-
If it was between going 7-10 and doing exactly whatever we’ve done so far, the choice is still easily “the tank.”
-
And I don’t like that they gave the best team in the NFC Jalen Carter for the 127thish pick in next years’ draft.
-

Irony is definitely not one of your strong suits either.
Looks like we are back to the Anger stage of the 7 Stages of Grief. They do say there is no order for the 7 stages.
We are here for you, Tempo, as you process your disappointment over a safe lineman being picked and Poles being "fleeced" when moving back a spot.
So everyone is ready, we should expect the frustrations to mount since the Steeler have the Bear pick in round 2 after Poles wasted it for a WR that the Wingback could not get the ball to this year.
-
And I don’t like that they gave the best team in the NFC Jalen Carter for the 127thish pick in next years’ draft.
Definitely Anger Stage.
-
If it was between going 7-10 and doing exactly whatever we’ve done so far, the choice is still easily “the tank.”
Despite your bitter disappointment with yesterday's proceedings....
-
Instead, you gave the team you’re going to have to get past to get to the Super Bowl the player they covet for next to nothing.
You have yet to provide a better alternative. You’re literally just whining.
Here were the options:
Pick a guy you don’t want
Let the team behind you pick him for free
Get what you can for him.
The third, which they chose, is easily the best. And you’re STILL whining.
-
I just find it hard to believe they couldn’t find a better offer.
Yes, they could’ve picked a guy they didn’t want. I am fucking mind blown you think that’s a better option than getting a draft pick for free.
-
Despite your bitter disappointment with yesterday's proceedings....
You just wait until the player to be named later gets picked.
-
On Monday, Michael Lombardi predicted the Bear would take an OT. He liked Jones over Wright.
He did say that if he were the Eagle, he would trade up to get Carter.
I think he definitely missed on a bit.
-
It is Depression, not "whining".
-
No it’s for sure whining.
This is a guy who’s so upset the Bears didn’t pick a running back who wasn’t available that he’s criticizing them for not drafting someone they didn’t want and instead getting a draft pick for him.
If it was a sweetheart deal it was a sweetheart deal for the Bears. At least that’s what Tempo would be whining about if the Bears gave up a draft pick to move up a spot and take a guy you could’ve gotten for free.
-
Meme away, PAMan. Meme away…
-
Despite your bitter disappointment with yesterday's proceedings....
Bitter? Wouldn’t go that far. Underwhelming. That fits. I’d rate yesterday’s 1st round a 7.5. I just expected a 9 or better. I don’t mind Darnell Wright. Just don’t think they got good value for the 9th pick.
Could they have gotten a Chase Young and the 16th pick for Jalen Carter and a 4th rounder? I sure hope they tried.
-

Except I completely gave you an “alternative.” If you can’t get anything better than essentially next years 5th rounder, call their bluff and take him (and then try to flip him). The WORST CASE SCNENARIO is you wound up with the possibly the best player in the draft and your greatest position of need. And I also don’t think giving a sweetheart deal to far and away the best team in the NFC was the smartest move.
-
Again, Spark. I don’t hate the way it turned out. I just think it could have been “better,” and should have been better. I think Poles blinked.
-
Yes, they could’ve picked a guy they didn’t want. I am fucking mind blown you think that’s a better option than getting a draft pick for free.
I’m confident they could have gotten something better than next years’ 127th pick. Pretty confident. They could have packaged him.
-

Huh?
No, the worst case scenario is you picked a guy you didn't even want and he has off field problems like he already does and doesn't produce like he already hasn't.
The best case scenario is rather than taking a guy you don't want, you trade him for a free pick. This is what they did, and you have been whining about it since it happened.
If you want me to believe that, were the Bears to trade a pick to move up one spot and take a guy the team in front of them didn't even want, you'd be calling that a 'sweetheart deal' for the Bears, well, you're barking up the wrong tree. I'm not that stupid.
-
Show of hands. Who here thinks Jalen Carter is worth more than the 127th pick in next years’ draft? And who thinks it was wise to give him to the best team in the NFC. The team that probably wound up with the best 1st round day because of the trade.
-
Again, for the 16th time. I don’t hate what the Bears did. Just thought they could have (and should have) done better.
-
Jesus dude, talk about bad faith arguing…
You literally act like an elementary school kid upset that they didn't get the toy they wanted. You recognize that, right?
They didn't take your guy Bijan, as risky a pick as possible, because someone took the risk in front of them. He wasn't available. Carter was not an option. They had the opportunity to get a pick for him for free and still get the guy.
You're mad because they didn't take a player they didn't even fucking want with a top-10 pick. It's devastatingly stupid.
-
Again, for the 16th time. I don’t hate what the Bears did. Just thought they could have (and should have) done better.
Yes, but the only alternative you've provided - take a guy you don't want with your top-10 pick and hope - would've been doing much worse.
You keep saying "they should've done better", but your only ideas as to how they could've done that are absolutely horrible.
-
Show of hands. Who here thinks Jalen Carter is worth more than the 127th pick in next years’ draft? And who thinks it was wise to give him to the best team in the NFC. The team that probably wound up with the best 1st round day because of the trade.
Jalen Carter's worth what a team will give you for him and no more. Obviously no one in the top-9 of the draft was interested.
I think letting someone else take a guy you don't want - and especially letting someone else take him and getting a free draft pick in return - is preferable to taking a guy you don't want at #9 overall. Crazy, I know.
You have literally convinced yourself this is a Madden draft. It's insanity. Just an unbelievable whiner.
-
Huh?

At number 9, I think “getting stuck” with Carter is a risk worth taking. I think Poles blinked. No one is perfect. I find it very difficult to believe no one but the Eagles were interested in Carter at 9.
-
And for the 42nd time, I’m ok with what they did. Just don’t love it.
-
At number 9, I think “getting stuck” with Carter is a risk worth taking. I think Poles blinked. No one is perfect. I find it very difficult to believe no one but the Eagles were interested in Carter at 9.
No offense, but it doesn't really matter what you find difficult to believe because you're approaching this like a child to begin with.
The notion that the Bears should've spent their top-10 pick on a guy they literally did not want on their team, and because they didn't you're 'disappointed', is absolutely fucking absurd. Just ludicrous stuff.
They didn't want Carter. Rather than just let the Eagles take him, they got an asset for him. And you're whining about it!! Literally, I've mocked you many many many times and this is something so stupid I wouldn't even have guessed it.
-
It will be interesting to see how the future of Jalen Carter plays out.
-
There's always next year.
-
And yes, I think it’s OK to take a player you maybe necessarily don’t want, I’m old enough to remember when Illinois didn’t want Dwyane Wade
-
There is practically no doubt in my mind that they could have likely flipped Carter for more
-
And yes, I think it’s OK to take a player you maybe necessarily don’t want, I’m old enough to remember when Illinois didn’t want Dwyane Wade
Taking a player you don't even want with a top-10 NFL draft pick to avoid getting a free draft pick is quite literally the stupidest idea I've ever seen espoused on an Internet message board.
-
I also give poles and Eberflus credit for sticking to their guns on culture. No pun intended. Just not sure I agree with the process in this case.
-
There is practically no doubt in my mind that they could have likely flipped Carter for more
And there is practically no value to what is in your mind, Tempo. You can scream "they should've gotten more" until your face is blue, but that's fantasy.
They could've gotten less, for sure. They could, rather than the guy they wanted and an extra pick, have ended up with JUST the guy they wanted, or a guy they didn't want. That you find those options to be preferable speaks to how fucking absurd you're being about this.
-

Ok
-

Yes, rather than getting a free draft pick for him they should've just taken the guy they didn't want!
A brilliant NFL draft strategy, really inarguable stuff.
-
The problem is, we will never know what their other options were, if any. I suspect trading with the Eagles was not their only option, but lucky for you we will never know.
-
I remember Tempo going on and on about how the Bears fleeced the 49ers by trading up a spot to get a guy the 49ers didn't want.
-
The problem is, we will never know what their other options were, if any. I suspect trading with the Eagles was not there only option, but lucky for you we will never know.
If the Bears knew what they were fucking doing they'd have either spent their #9 pick on someone they didn't want or someone who wasn't available.
Hard not to be disappointed that they didn't take one of those guys.
-
I remember Tempo going on and on about how the Bears fleeced the 49ers by trading up a spot to get a guy the 49ers didn't want.
Bad faith argument. And obviously, I never said that.
-
If the 127th pick in next years’ draft was the best they could do…ok fine. I just find that really hard to believe. And again, making the best team in the NFC stronger maybe isn’t the most prudent move. I’d have less issue if they’d traded the Carter pick to the Jets, or even the Falcons.
-
For the 68th time, I don’t “hate” what they did. Just felt it could have probably been better. Lynch me for that highly controversial take, go ahead.
-
Would I ordinarily espouse drafting a player “you don’t want?” No. Might I make an exception if that player is at excellent value and billed as the best player in the draft (by many experts), and he plays the position you most desperately need? Yeah, I might. Because at worst I got an awesome talent at a critical position for excellent value. That’s if you can’t flip him. Which I believe they could have.
-
If that’s “the stupidest thing you’ve ever seen on the internet,” so be it.
-
I remember Tempo going on and on about how the Bears fleeced the 49ers by trading up a spot to get a guy the 49ers didn't want.
And even if that were true (it’s not, even remotely), I don’t see how that is very relevant to what we saw yesterday.
-
For the 68th time, I don’t “hate” what they did. Just felt it could have probably been better. Lynch me for that highly controversial take, go ahead.
I got the impression your preference was a shooting.
"Sounds like there’s a high likelihood the Bears’ next coach will be Eberflus, Caldwell, or Leslie Frazier. Just fucking shoot me."
-

You do at least understand that there's no such thing as a unilateral trade in the NFL, right? You need two parties who both agree to it. Trade logic isn't off.
-

I don’t think reading your posts is worth the 1% hit rate. Even though most of them are like 4 words.
-
And even if that were true (it’s not, even remotely), I don’t see how that is very relevant to what we saw yesterday.
They were both situations where a team wanted a guy, the team in front of them didn't want the guy, and the team gave up assets to move up one spot and get him (even though the other team didn't want them).
In one of the situations you thought the Bears got fleeced for spending to move up and get a guy the 49ers didn't even want (ignoring that there were multiple other teams trying to trade into that spot). In the other situation you thought the Bears got fleeced for receiving an asset to move back a spot and let someone else take a guy they didn't even want.
It doesn't surprise me you don't see the relevance, obviously, but ... they were pretty similar. A team wanted a guy, and traded with the team one spot in front of them (who didn't even want their guy) to make sure they got him. You just reacted to them in totally opposite ways.
-
You do at least understand that there's no such thing as a unilateral trade in the NFL, right? You need two parties who both agree to it. Trade logic isn't off.
Again. It helps your side of the argument that we can’t know what other parties may have had interest. I’d be really surprised if the Eagles were the only one. The Eagles literally got the guy who could have went off the board at #1 three months ago for a day 3 pick. Seems…low.
-
But you know what? Out of good faith I’ll just assume we have all the information possibly available (we don’t), and say well done by the Bears.
All I’m saying is I feel yesterday could have gone better. Was it a bad day for the Bears? No, I wouldn’t say that at all.
-
The Bears gave up considerably more than the Eagles did.
-
The Bears gave up considerably more than the Eagles did.
For a notably higher pick with others trying to trade into it, yes.
-
I’ve seen Tempo make some super meatheady arguments over the years, but I’ve gotta say “I’m disappointed they didn’t spend their top-10 pick on a guy they had taken off their board and didn’t want” is a new high water mark.
-
The Bears gave up 2 3rds and a 4th. That’s not all that relevant to what happened yesterday.
-

Ok.
-
Unfortunately we will never know exactly what discussions and options were on the table. If we assume the Bears were a 100% no on Carter (appears to be the case), and we assume the ONLY option was the 127th pick in next years draft (I guess we’re stuck assuming that). Ok. Good job, Bears.
Could they have flipped that pick for a Chase Young or a Mike Evans (with other compensation). I’m hoping they pursued avenues like that. We likely will never know.
-
And again, don’t love that you helped the best team in the NFC get better, but I guess they were that adamant on their approach.
-
Still give the Bears a passing grade on the Wright pick. Still love “the tank.”
-
Stacey Dales talking draft on The Score. But how could we ever take a woman talking football seriously?
-

Remember, they had 7-8 minutes to get this done.
One of the two teams you suggested trading the pick to (the Falcons) had both already spent their first round pick and already passed on Carter the pick before.
-
Remember, they had 7-8 minutes to get this done.
I’m guessing they were talking these scenarios over with other teams two weeks ago.
If they felt that was the absolute best offer they could get, fine. I just find it hard to believe. I’m not unhappy with Wright. And still feeling really good about the Bears’ trajectory.
-

Yes, I'm sure they were 'talking these scenarios over'. But they didn't know he would be there until he was there, and at that point you had 7-8 minutes to say yes to a deal.

We may be witnessing Peak Tempoing.

We may be witnessing Peak Tempoing.
Sad pathetic man you are.
-
So, we went from "Carter screwed up in a car, showed up to his pro day out of shape, I don't want him!" to "We let the Eagles get possibly the best player in the draft for nothing!"
I may be misunderstanding, but I don't think I am.
-
If a day 3 pick (next year) was the best they could do for a guy hailed by many as the best talent in the draft, so be it. I guess what it really says is that Poles felt Wright was that important. I’m guessing it was a “Darnell Wright” no matter what situation.
-

What the Bears got may have indeed been the best they could do.

Yes. Because thoughts, information, and situations change. Would I take Carter at 2 or 4, where we thought the Bears were likely to be drafting? No. 9 is quite different. And regardless of how (I) feel; we know most GMs don’t care about that shit, and that could be exploited. Again, my WORST case scenario in this situation is we “get stuck” with the most talented player in the draft at a dire position of need at the 9th pick.

Agree, the worst case scenario is the Bears spend their best draft asset on a guy they don't even want to avoid getting a free draft pick to let another team pick him.

No matter how much “Tempoing” I do, I’ll never be the misogynistic creep who posts intimate photos of my latest sexual conquests so my pretend pervy friends can tickle their stiffies.

I’m about 99% certain once the Bears traded down to 9, I said I’d be “pretty open” to the idea of taking Carter there.
-
Agree, the worst case scenario is the Bears spend their best draft asset on a guy they don't even want to avoid getting a free draft pick to let another team pick him.
Time will tell. Whether he’s a bust, or being handed one while he’s wearing a gold jacket. Like I said, this probably says as much about Poles’ conviction on Wright as anything.
-
Tempo why do you like the Bears GM so much if he passes on the consensus BPA in the draft? Carter wasn’t just BPA where he was picked, but most had him as BPA of the entire draft.
When you are a team as bad as the bears, you don’t tank to get average players. You tank to get great players, and the Bears failed last night.
They better hope their 1st rounder next year is something good or this past Bears season was a collasal waste
-
You know as little about football as about basketball, apparently. Shocking.

The Bears got a #1 WR and will pick up probably 4 more starters due to the tank.
-

The Bears were the worst team in football all season. FACT.
They need Aaron Donald level players to turn it around. FACT.
And that’s especially true when the QB, the most important position on the team, is a bottom 10QB in the league. FACT.
You don’t get AD level players by passing on AD level talent. The Bears had one of the worst drafts last night and that’s why Tempo is pissed. They’d have been better off taking Levis or Carter. Those are each potentially franchise level changing talents.
“Plugging holes” on the worst team in the NFL ain’t gonna do a damn thing.
-
There's always next year.
Just wait for the reaction if Young kicks ass with Carolina and that pick sucks next year.....It will seem like when John Drummond said he felt like he was on the ‘fo’c’sle of a tramp steamer after the Bear lost to the Washington football team in 1987.
-

His take is particularly insensitive given the death yesterday (?) of the woman who caused Emmitt Till to die.
-
I can't remember when I last paid attention to football.
It's pretty obvious Seattle and the Bears didn't want Carter and nobody else was giving up much to draft him.
The no name tackle they drafted has some impressive numbers.
-
I’m about 99% certain once the Bears traded down to 9, I said I’d be “pretty open” to the idea of taking Carter there.
Yeah, you're probably right. But the Bears obviously didn't want him. It will be interesting to see how Carter turns out. That's for sure.

There was one three technique lineman in the draft. Great ones are rare to come by. Good to be the Eagle to be able to take a chance on him.
-
Yeah, you're probably right. But the Bears obviously didn't want him. It will be interesting to see how Carter turns out. That's for sure.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a HOFer. But also wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a bust.

-
You appear to be saying that if there were other offers, the Bear picked the worst one.
I’ve since settled on he was that high on Wright. Not sure why else he’d settle for a day 3 pick next year for a guy projected to go at like 5.5 or 6.5 (can’t recall which).
-
I think that is what Custard means by "Peak Tempoing."
Tempoing > Custarding
-
What’s your over/under on Bears wins this year?
6 wins
If it’s under 6 wins the tank was a disaster and passing on potentially great players to “plug holes” is a good way to stay in the cellar of the NFC Central.
Lions/Vikings are clearly better. We will see with the Packers sans Rodgers
-

Ah yes, a brilliant method to build a football team with holes everywhere: ignore the red flags and lack of production to take one talented guy you hope will be great.
That's more valuable than 4-5 starters.
Again, it's kind of impressive that you're somehow more football stupid than you are basketball stupid. I'm not sure I've ever met someone as basketball stupid as you.
-
I’ve since settled on he was that high on Wright. Not sure why else he’d settle for a day 3 pick next year for a guy projected to go at like 5.5 or 6.5 (can’t recall which).
Because the other option was settling for nothing and getting the same guy. It REALLY isn't complicated.
It's pretty clear a lot of teams were simply uninterested in Carter, right? You said you wished we'd traded him to the Falcons, who already had had a chance to pick him and passed (and because of that, didn't have a 1st in this draft to trade either). A lot of teams were out on him.
-
I think adding a stud tackle to protect your budding star QB is a good idea, and getting an extra pick for a guy you didn't want anyway is a pretty solid move as well.
Trading down is always the right move especially when rebuilding from the ground up, it starts in the trenches, and I can understand why they wouldn't want an apparent out of shape headcase like Carter. And the NFL has gone from defense oriented to offense oriented so yeah... offensive tackle is a good place to start when you already have your QB. Have a good line and the running back doesn't matter as much. Plenty of good skill players will still be available in later rounds.
Grats to Witherspoon for being a top 5 pick, wow!
-
The Eagles, being an already good team have the luxury of taking a chance on a guy like Carter... its really that simple
-
Because the other option was settling for nothing and getting the same guy.
I used the Falcons as a random example as in "team X." I think I also said the Jets. Another "team X." Meaning not the Eagles, who are already the best team in the NFC for the foreseeable future.
-
The point was letting a bad NFC team or an AFC team have him for a day 3 pick would "taste better."
-
The point was letting a bad NFC team or an AFC team have him for a day 3 pick would "taste better."
But we know most of the teams you're talking about didn't want him, because they had a chance to take him and passed.
-

Yes, the Falcons were a terrible example.
I suspect if the Jets were willing to offer more to move into the spot, the Bears would've taken it. I sincerely doubt they just passed on the best offer they got and took a worse offer for funsies.
Would you have felt better trading the pick to the Jets for a lower first round pick this year and a lower pick next year? Personally I'm worried about the assets the Bears have, not whether we're making a super bowl contender better the year after being the worst team in the league.
-

Nobody else was offering anything to draft an out of shape defensive tackle.
-
I think adding a stud tackle to protect your budding star QB is a good idea, and getting an extra pick for a guy you didn't want anyway is a pretty solid move as well.
I don't find anything "objectionable" there. Again I just feel like there was more value to be had re: Carter. Maybe there wasn't. I'm confident Poles isn't inept enough not to have not tested the waters on a Carter trade down weeks or days ago. I do think it's a bad look when you just made the best team in your conference better for a day 3 pick. As I said, the more I've thought about it, it makes me think Poles was on the Darnell Wright no matter what train.
I still give the Bears a passing grade on the day. Just think it could have been better. Perhaps I'm wrong.
-
Nobody else was offering anything to draft an out of shape defensive tackle.
As far as you know...
-
I also think it's kind of funny to assume the Eagles are the best team in the NFC for the 'foreseeable future'. My guess is you wouldn't have agreed with that even one year ago today. Things change fast.
-
As far as you know...
Just assume they passed up a better deal for unknown reasons and criticize them for it, makes perfect sense.
-

Again, my point had nothing to do with the Falcons or Jets or their place in the draft specifically. I was just throwing random team names out there. Meaning not teams that were already the best in your conference.
-

Yes, but you can only make a trade with teams that also want to make the trade
Again, they could've not made the trade. The result is the Eagles still get Carter, and the Bears have one less pick next year.
They also could've picked Carter. The result of that is, the Bears spent their best draft asset on a player they didn't even want.
I fail to see how either of these options is better than what they did.
-
I think there is a reasonable expectation that the Bears are the most improved team in the NFL next year (or over next two years). Meaning I hope and half expect to be playing in a playoff game which will probably be in Philadelphia sooner rather than a lot later.
PAMan signal has been lit...
-
Yes, but you can only make a trade with teams also that want to make the trade
Again, they could've not made the trade. The result is the Eagles still get Carter, and the Bears have one less pick next year.
Or...................there could have been other influences. Such as a determination to get Darnell Wright. The point is, unless we were in the room we don't know what went down for sure. Sure, we can surmise. But that doesn't automatically mean that guess is correct.
-

One of us is using a guess as to what MIGHT HAVE happened with no evidence as a means to whine about a pretty darn good first round move.
The other is talking about what actually occurred.
You can fantasize about some shitty NFC team coming in and offering more for Carter all you want. That obviously did not happen.
-
Again. I think Carter makes an enticing piece of trade bait, particularly if packaged with other picks or players. Tampa is probably looking to shed some money as they are clearly going to be rebuilding. Could Carter and a 3rd rounder get you Mike Evans? IDK. But again, the worst case scenario is you have a guy who many say is the best player in the draft at your most important position that isn't quarterback.
BTW, Tampa drafted an undersized 3 tech in the 1st.
-
Would you really feel better about this if the Bears had traded the 9 pick to a different team, with a lower first this year where they risk not getting the guy they actually want and a worse pick next year?
I can't imagine that'd have changed the magnitude of the whining.
-

Your entire point is based on the notion, based on literally no evidence at all, that Poles probably just didn't even try to get the best deal he could for the pick.
It's lunacy.
-
Is the implication of your edit that Tampa offered the Bears a better deal for the pick and they passed for no reason?
Do you not understand how ridiculous you sound here?
Ignoring that we have no idea if the Bucs wanted Carter at all.

Says the guy who seems incapable of layered thought.
This is great.
Need to make room in the sig for this one.

As you are showing us here, you are the King of Layered Thought, with 50% more nuance!

The point is you’re drawing definite conclusions from information you don’t have. You’re going strictly by what is known by the outsider. You may, or may not be right. Jesus.

No. Jesus…
Why mention that the Bucs took a D Lineman then? What point were you making?

So you’re happy with the outcome? Because unless you are, you’re just piling on because you can’t help yourself.

No, dude, I’m drawing conclusions from the information we DO have.
You are saying “well but what if there was a better trade out there and Poles didn’t even try?”, which is absurd.
-
The point is you’re drawing definite conclusions from information you don’t have. You’re going strictly by what is known by the outsider. You may, or may not be right. Jesus.
Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know. And if one looks throughout the history of NFL drafts, it is the latter category that tends to be the difficult ones.
-
Also no.
I mean, yes dude.
Your whole point is "we didn't get enough for Carter!"
The point only makes sense if there was some way we could've gotten more for Carter. If you're not assuming we could've gotten more, then your entire point is moot.
-
Why mention that the Bucs took a D Lineman then? What point were you making?
The point is instead of settling maybe it’s (possible) a much better deal was there to be had. We don’t know what was discussed or how aggressive they were in trying to maximize the return. For the 14th time, it’s totally possible that Poles identified Wright as his “must have” guy. Which might be an explanation for why they settled for a meager return rather than just the lazy assumption it was “the only deal out there.”
-
In an absolutely perfect world in your mind Tempo, how would the Bears have played the draft last night? Try to tell me without assuming there was some deal better than what they got for the 9th pick.
-

So yes, what I said was exactly correct. The point of posting it was, maybe the Bucs offered Poles a better deal and he passed!
The notion that there were better deals out there and Poles passed on them is just crazy meathead fan stuff.
-
So you’re happy with the outcome? Because unless you are, you’re just piling on because you can’t help yourself.
As you do not recall, obviously, I posted after the pick that I was happy with it. I will add that I was especially fine with it since it was not the NU guy who appears to be headed to being a Guard.
-
I mean, yes dude.

I’ve said all along I think we could have gotten more. But maybe Poles didn’t want to risk not getting Wright. Is that overly complicated?
On top of that, I don’t know who Poles talked to 10 days ago about “what if” scenarios. And neither do you. It may have been everyone, it may have been no one. TBH I’m betting they were surprised he fell. No one expected him to go past Detroit.
-
As you do not recall, obviously, I posted after the pick that I was happy with it. I will add that I was especially fine with it since it was not the NU guy who appears to be headed to being a Guard.
Then why did you make a post mocking me for the Bears getting “a guy who wasn’t even there! Lol”
-

So let's assume he didn't do his homework, and just decided to take a weak deal rather than the better deal that might have been out there for him! That way hey, at least we have something to whine about.
Lunacy man. You're one of those people who watches sports specifically to bitch about it, no matter what actually occurs, and that mindset will never make any sense at all to me.
-
So yes, what I said was exactly correct. The point of posting it was, maybe the Bucs offered Poles a better deal and he passed!

Have to admire the creativity on picking Carter 9 to just trade him in a package to teams who did not want to trade up to 9 to get him.
-
Wait, you aren't glad Fields lost all those close games so they could pick a tackle who is not even at the draft???
This sounds like a ringing endorsement for the pick.
-
This sounds like a ringing endorsement for the pick.
He was pretty clearly trolling you there.
He obviously thinks saying ridiculously stupid shit to get you riled up is the peak of comedy.
To your credit, when you say ridiculously stupid shit you really mean it and dig in.
-

Again fuckstick. You’re drawing conclusions on limited information. You might be right. You might be wrong. If Poles decided he had to have Wright, you are probably wrong. JFC. This isn’t hard.
-
He was pretty clearly trolling you there.

Ok. But just assuming you know all the facts, when you are actually using limited information to draw conclusions doesn’t make you right. As I said, if Poles decided Wright was his “must have,” then it changes the reasoning completely. Maybe that was his guy and Poles didn’t want to risk not getting him at 17 or 20. Clearly Pittsburgh was on the hunt for an OT and everyone knew this.
-
One of us is assuming they know facts they can’t know and using it as a means to criticize the front office for not getting a hypothetical better deal for the 9 pick.
The other is discussing what actually happened.
-
As were the Titans. Who took an OT on the next pick. Maybe Poles wasn’t interested in Skoronski or Jones.
-
JFC. Talk to you later.
-
Why is an Eagle 4th pick in 2024 worth anything?
PAMan needs to pick a lane.
-
JFC. Talk you later.
I mean come on man, you’re coming after me - whose only assumption is that Poles didn’t just pass on a better deal for no reason - for “assuming the facts” when you’ve been criticizing him for like 18 straight hours because what if maybe there was a better deal and he just passed on it?
One of us is making a pretty big assumption but it isn’t me.
-
Then why did you make a post mocking me for the Bears getting “a guy who wasn’t even there! Lol”
Because I knew you would be miffed they did not pick a player in a skilled position.
-
This sounds like a ringing endorsement for the pick.
It sounds like I knew you were going to be disappointed.
-
Again fuckstick. You’re drawing conclusions on limited information. You might be right. You might be wrong. If Poles decided he had to have Wright, you are probably wrong. JFC. This isn’t hard.
Last night you raised this as a possibility.

You did have him going. I admit there really was no need for me to pour kerosene onto the fire.
-
Because I knew you would be miffed they did not pick a player in a skilled position.
I expected they would take an OL or DL. I “hoped” they would take Bijan. But that turned out to not be an option.
-
Because I knew you would be miffed they did not pick a player in a skilled position.
Hi MemeMan. Once Bijan was off the board my expectation was zero they would draft a skill position player. Ok, maybe not zero; but probably v less than the number of people it takes to make a baby. What’s that? 2%?
-

They met your expectations but you remain somewhat disappointed.

Greater than ESPN's odds that Dom's Guy would still be on the board for Day 2.
-
They met your expectations but you remain somewhat disappointed.
Disappointed we let the best team in our conference have the best talent in the draft for a day 3 pick. But that’s because it was our only option. No one else wanted him. Fact. Because that’s what happened. Poles couldn’t possibly have fallen in love with Wright and turned down even minimally better (potential) offers, because I saw what happened. On TV anyway. I have pretty limited information, but I know what I saw.
-
I'm guessing the Score guys really wanted them to take Carter.

I'm guessing the Score guys really wanted them to take Carter.
Honestly not sure. I think they are pretty mixed. But again. I didn’t really want them to “take Carter.” You’d know this if you could read better.

I’d love to know what kind of discussions were had regarding Carter a week or two ago, but it’s highly unlikely we will ever know.
-
Honestly not sure. I think they are pretty mixed. But again. I didn’t really want them to “take Carter.” You’d know this if you could read better.
Maybe The Score guys were factoring in that Robinson was gone when they picked and therefore they wanted Carter?

I can read just fine. My post said "I'm guessing the Score guys really wanted them to take Carter." I didn't say anything about you in that post.
The Score is a fucking hot take machine. Nothing more. My guess is that's the hottest take, and they're running with it.
You would know this if you could read better.

It's not that it's a fact that no one else wanted him, but if that's false we're back to assuming Poles just passed on a better deal for no reason.
There's not really another option here, right?
It was either the best deal they could get and they took it, or they had a better deal and just didn't take it. What's the third option?
-
Mully wanted Carter. Haugh wanted Robinson. Haugh and Spiegs were very anti-Carter. Parkins I think wanted Carter. Not sure where the rest of them stood.
But again, I didn’t “want” Carter (badly anyway). But I’d probably have been willing to call bluffs and kept Philly from getting him. I have no idea how creative Poles was in shopping the pick, and we’ll almost certainly never know. It’s entirely possible Wright was his must have guy and didn’t want to risk losing him (thus took the safe route and traded with Philly). I don’t see how that possibility is thrown out as ridiculous.
-
I’d love to know what kind of discussions were had regarding Carter a week or two ago, but it’s highly unlikely we will ever know.

Taking Carter and packaging him with Fields to trade to the Bucs.

For the 39th time, that “reason” MIGHT have been that he desperately wanted Wright and was afraid someone else would take him if he traded down too far.
-
Taking Carter and packaging him with Fields to trade to the Bucs.
I like it. As long as we get Mayfield.
-
Is Johnny Football available?
-
So let's just assume they could've gotten more and criticize them for it.
I’ve been probably the most pro Poles person here. I’m just not sure this was his best moment as GM. I’m not looking to “assign blame,” as much as just wondering if that really was the best we could do. Perhaps it was. But just because that’s what happened doesn’t mean that’s the unassailable truth. Unless we were in on the discussions were surmising.
-
Is Johnny Football available?
Probably could have gotten him thrown in to the deal.
-
I think it’s pretty obvious whatever offers they may have gotten, it didn’t blow their socks off. That doesn’t necessarily mean there was no better deal to be had. And I can understand Poles not wanting to play Russian roulette as a new GM. And even tip my hat to them for sticking to their guns.

Darnell Wright.
Feels disappointing. But safe.
I think this is at least a mild endorsement of the pick. Yes. I feel like they got a 7.5 out of the pick. I was hoping for 9 or higher. My bad for having high hopes.

The fact that I said the pick was “safe” would assume I didn’t hate the pick. I thought it was a safe, high floor pick. Nuance….

Yes. Things you do not understand.

I wanted a bold high ceiling pick. Maybe Wright has a higher ceiling than I figured. Here’s hoping…

I'm just saying, when your initial reaction is to be disappointed by it, opine that they should've gotten more, complain that it's unsexy - I doubt most people would interpret that as an endorsement, even a mild one.

Hard to draw conclusions on what you say as well. Because you say everything. Hoping you won’t get called out on it.

The pick. By a pretty wide margin.
-
Ugh, having to wait until 53 is agonizing. A lot of the best value said to be going 20-45
-
All I want for Father’s Day is for Adebaware to fall to 53.
-
Foskey off the board. Was hoping he’d be an option for the Bears.
-
Everyone already drafted out?
-
Ojulari another good pass rusher off the board.
-
Looks like the Lions are planning on airing it out. Drafted Gibbs and a TE, and also have Jameson Williams who barely played last year due to injury.
-
Keion White, another good DE off the board to NE.
-
Is Jalen Carter related to Underwood?
https://www.crossingbroad.com/2023/04/nfl-network-reporter-says-jalen-carter-has-a-big-dick.html
-
Fuck. Keeanu Benton off the board. Pittsburgh.
-
Keion did not look happy.
-
Would like to see the Bears take two DL and Schmitz if he’s there with this next 3 picks.
-
Jartavius Martin goes #47 to Washington.
-
Bears only two picks away!
-
Bears have their pick between Adebawore and Schmitz. I’m shocked. Watch them draft neither lol
-
Lovie Smith was a worse talent waster than Ron Zook.
He went 2-6 in 2020 with an NFL secondary:
Nate Hobbs
Devin Witherspoon
Quan Martin
Sydney Brown
Tony Adams
Kirby Joseph
6 NFL players in one college secondary. 4 starters (Hobbs, Witherspoon, Martin, Joseph) and 1 possible starter (Brown) and 1 special teamer (Adams).
-
I hope the pick is Adebawore.
-
Gervon Dexter Sr.
I had a feeling the Bears might feel Adebawore was undersized. They are infatuated with length.
-

Lol took a guy they could have gotten in the 4th round

3rd to 4th round grade here…feels like a Ryan Pace pick. Certainly has the traits.
https://www.nfl.com/prospects/gervon-dexter/32004445-5863-4187-6630-33b3a986f697
-
Grade is 6.0 “traits or talent to be above average backup.” Great…
-
Torn between Schmitz and Adebawore at 61 if both there. Would love to have the Center of the next 10 years since we just went DT.
-
This is what tanking gets you Tempo
-
Bears just traded up.
-
I’d love to know the rationale for taking Dexter and not taking Carter. I’m sure sparky will be here soon to claim the Bears are “filling holes”.
Taking a low production 2nd rounder was just dumb
-
Tyrique Stevenson DB. I remember the name but don’t know much about him.
-

They obviously feel they can get more out of his ability than he’s shown.
-
Schmitz off the board. Giants. Good pick for them.
-
According to this source, Stevenson is a 4th round grade.

I’m sure Sparky has them in the 2nd round
-
Here it says he’s high priority day 2, potential to sneak into round 1.
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/tyrique-stevenson-cb-miami-fl-nfl-draft-scouting-report-2023/
-
Really wanted Schmitz. Supposed to be a really really smart Center.
-
Still would be pretty happy about Adebawore.
Maybe RB or WR next?
-
Wonder what the Bears traded to move up.
-
So Bears gave up a 5th to move from 61 to 56. 64 should be next pick.
-
CBS Sports destroying these picks.
Chase Claypool
Gervon Dexter
Tyrique Stevenson
2 projects and a bust. That’s bad value in the 2nd rd
-
Link?
-
From what I’m reading both have strong traits, high motors, but production doesn’t quite match up.
Seems to fit the profile, though; because I think they really feel they can coach players up.
-

Yeah they really coached up the guys they had this year…
-
Yeah they really coached up the guys they had this year…
Lol actually they did. They were disciplined and were in most games, when the talent says they should have been getting blown out.
-
Bears back on clock. Adebawore still available.

Yeah they really coached up the guys they had this year…
And they were calling the plays offensively.

The troll finally came back.

It is the second round of a crappy draft. These are all just guys at this point.

Your sigs keep getting progressively dumber FTR.
-
It is the second round of a crappy draft. These are all just guys at this point.
Lance Briggs was just a guy?
-
2nd round is where the value is in this draft, or so I was told.
-
I am smiling as it is obvious you are already disappointed by the Bear's pick today.
-
Lance Briggs was just a guy?
Lance Briggs is not in this year's draft, moron.
-
And the Bears take another DT. Tempo bumming
-
I know who I wanted in round 2, but since I know even less about these guys than I did round 1 I’m probably gonna have to give Poles and Flus the benefit of the doubt.
-
2nd round is where the value is in this draft, or so I was told.
The Cowboy reportedly only had 11 guys graded as first round players.

WTF they skipped announcing the Bears pick.

Don’t worry it was another Day 3 guy taken tonight

Zach Pickens. DT. S. Carolina
Just saw. Off to Google.

3 technique guy, reportedly.
-
Just saw. Off to Google.
ESPN claims he will start day 1 as the Bear d line sucks.
-
Another “big” guy. Another 5 star player like Dexter (and maybe Stevenson was?) who has traits but probably didn’t live up to hype. They are drafting traits over production for sure. That scares me a little.
-

Eberlose will coach them up like the Wingback.

Two DL out of the three picks as I suspected and mostly hoped.
-
Eberlose will coach them up like the Wingback.
Very clever. You should trademark that.
-
Syd Brown picked!
-
ESPN claims he will start day 1 as the Bear d line sucks.
Like Bears quarterbacking history, its a low bar.
-
Eagles have had a great draft.
Carter
Smith
Steen
Brown
-
Sydney Brown to Philly. Congrats to him. Maybe he can room with Jalen Carter.
-
Eagles have had a great draft.

Strong. They will be tough to get past for a while.

I think you’d rather have kept Carter for DL and address other spots
-
Sydney Brown to Philly. Congrats to him. Maybe he can room with Jalen Carter.
Wow. You are not handling the draft well at all.
-
Nice talk-up for the Browns by the announcers.
-

And whoever the ball was to was hearing footsteps.
-
And whoever the ball was to was hearing footsteps.
He seemed to be chasing them quite a bit....I didn't think pass coverage was his thing. Seemed more like a linebacker type safety.

Brown could put a hit on somebody given the chance.
-
Wow. You are not handling the draft well at all.
Lol. Weird comment. But that’s normal for you. How do you draw that from “Sydney Brown to Philly, maybe he can room with Jalen Carter.” You are getting progressively weirder.
-
Brown is an in-the-box type safety.

Bears draft room after drafting Pickens. Why in the fuck are there two women in the draft room?! No wonder the Bears suck!

3 SEC players and a Miami player. At least they aren’t drafting players two rounds early from Ashland University like Ryan Pace.
These guys definitely have “a type.”

Maybe we found the cause for your disappointment in the Bear draft effort?
-
Man, the Bucs got a guy named YaYa Diaby. I want a guy named YaYa Diaby on the Bears.
-
Illini Martin to the Washington Football Team. Well, at least they will have new owners.
-
It’s not like I know a whole lot about day 2 picks, but I think I’m ok with what the Bears got. Size, athleticism, effort. Now go coach ‘em up.
-
Every mock I saw had Adebawore going no later than mid 2nd. Some had him in the first. He may not get picked till the 4th.
-

Adebawore still there for the Bears tomorrow. #42 on Kipers Big Board. Can be had at 103. I’d love for the Bears to draft him and create major competition on the D line. Make those kids fight for playing time. I doubt they’ll do it though because they seem to be infatuated with size. At 6’2 280 Adebawore is a little undersized.
-
Tempo, seeing commentary that Poles appears to be in love with players' RAS scores, which, allegedly, was an Emery draft fetish. Do you know anything about these metrics?

Nothing.

I know Poles was trending a couple/three weeks ago about some analytics cylinder and Twitter was having fun with it, but I never got around to checking into what all of the hubbub was about.
https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/bears-analytics-cylinder-nfl-draft-fan-reaction-jokes

It looks as tho a player needs to grade out on 6 of 10 metrics. That may mean a little bit of pick your metrics by the player and his agent.
In the Steeler Depot, some of the OTs had no agility drills results. In the comments, some Steeler fans were good with Wright at 17. Or maybe 32.
Wright didn't do agility testing.

I probably shouldn’t use the word “disappointed” for fear of being roasted for 20 pages lol, but I will be “disappointed” if Poles doesn’t take Adebawore. Premium athlete who has fallen 2 full rounds below his expected draft position. I am drooling at the idea of 3 talented rookies battling it out for playing time (along with current players). The quickest way to get better is to load up that D line. I hope Poles isn’t done with D line this draft. Apparently Adebawore has long arms, maybe that’ll help sway Poles. He and Schmitz were two players I was really hoping to pull down this week.
-

You HAVE TO ABSOLUTELY take Adebawore here, right?! I’ll be kinda pissed if he doesn’t either.
-
Don't you have to ask why Adebawore has fallen?
Levis seemed to be a media/online mirage. I do not know anything about Adebawore.
-
You HAVE TO ABSOLUTELY take Adebawore here, right?! I’ll be kinda pissed if he doesn’t either.
I think they’ve done a shit ton for the D line if they do. They’ve definitely upgraded the talent. Now they can really mash the turbo. Competition and talent have improved exponentially with that pick. Of course, they still have “needs” elsewhere, but I don’t know what 4th round pick helps them more than this one. He could be a day 1 starter. At a minimum he’s a rotational player.
-
Don't you have to ask why Adebawore has fallen?
Levis seemed to be a media/online mirage. I do not know anything about Adebawore.
Not at 2 round value. Maybe it’s because he’s a “tweener.” That’s about the only reason I’d be aware of.
-
Don't you have to ask why Adebawore has fallen?
Levis seemed to be a media/online mirage. I do not know anything about Adebawore.
6’2 280 long arms (allegedly). Ran like a 4.49 which is pretty insane for a guy that size. Comes from NU so he’s definitely got some brains. I love this pick here. I was hoping they’d take him round 2.
-
Ah, so this is the NU d lineman who was part of a shitty defense, like the NU guard was part of a shitty offense. Had someone phrase it in this manner on a text thread and did not know the d lineman's name.
-
What time is the draft today? Yeah, I'm not Goggling it. I'm B1GPAMan...
-
Northwestern’s defense ranks slightly above Miami. I guess our new cornerback is trash, too.
-
Apparently the Bears traded out of the first pick of the day SMH
-
What the fuck?! What’d they get? Looks like the Eagles trade up to grab Kelee Ringo. I was hoping the Bears got him as well. I’ll trust Poles, but man I’m not very impressed with this draft.
-
Moving down 12 spots to pick up a pick 62 picks later? WTF
Saints get 103
Bears get 115, 165
-
They must have absolutely zero conviction on anyone in this range.
Can’t understand why you’d move back half a round just to pick a pick you’re probably going to cut.
-
Weird. Like I said, I’ll give Poles this year and next and if I’m not happy, then fuck him.
-
Dawand Jones would’ve been nice too.
-
Dawand Jones would’ve been nice too.
I wonder if he’s maybe “too big.” Weird thing to say in the NFL, but at some point extra size is just overkill.
-
Well, that was an underwhelming pick.
This draft isn’t doing a whole hell of a lot for me. Sure, having Wright is nice, but the rest seems like projects.
-
Roschon Johnson is a good pick. I do not mind this draft so far, but man there’s a lot of reaches it appears based on rankings, but like I said, I’ll trust Poles until I can’t anymore. They’ve also addressed all the areas of need so far as well which is good.
-
I have the same concern about Victor Wembanyama. At some point, you’re plenty tall. Just a bigger candidate for injury IMO.
-
Weird. Like I said, I’ll give Poles this year and next and if I’m not happy, then fuck him.
If you’re giving up this pick to get a 2nd 4th, I’d get it. A late 5th stands a good chance of not even making your team. Or just being a practice squad guy. There are probably a half dozen players left with 2nd and early 3rd round grades. You just kicked them off your board.
-
Once they get past 150, they are all dart throws. Trade away to your hearts content.
-
Did the NFL hold a contest to find the biggest fuckwads to announce these picks?
Jesus Christ. Cringe city.
-
I guess we’re gonna find out how smart Poles is.
-
So.apparently the tank was worth it to get DJ Moore is what I'm reading here....and maybe a good 1 pick next year....
-
Did the NFL hold a contest to find the biggest fuckwads to announce these picks?
Jesus Christ. Cringe city.
It’s on already?
-
Shit, the Bears picked already?
-
Welp, we got a Texas RB, just like I wanted lol
-
Uh. It started at 11.
-
Northwestern’s defense ranks slightly above Miami. I guess our new cornerback is trash, too.
ACC more speed than the B1G, but we shall see how this guy does, won't we?
-
Bear got the RB Tempo was looking for.
-
Runs a 4.58. Great, another RB carrying a piano on his back. Sounds like a bigger probably less good version of David Montgomery. Yawn…not to say he can’t be decent. Just not expecting much.
-
Your NU guy went 110 to the Colts.
-
For the life of me can’t understand why you’re drafting a probably 3rd string RB instead of a possible starter on your D line. I’d love to be proven wrong.
Think I’d rather just had Leonard Fournette on a one or two year deal.
-
I guess we’re gonna find out how smart Poles is.
This.
-
Your NU guy went 110 to the Colts.
Good value. Very good.
-
I guess we’re gonna find out how smart Poles is.
This draft has felt rather Pacish. I sure hope he’s smarter than Ryan Pace.
-
Passed up starting potential and more competition on the D line for a power running backup RB. Sheesh. I guess there’s a reason Poles is getting paid for this and I’m not.
-
This draft has felt rather Pacish. I sure hope he’s smarter than Ryan Pace.
He doesn’t seem to be reaching on guys from places like Ashland University. So that’s a positive I suppose.
-
I’m pretty sure we already have this guy on the roster. His name is D’Onta Foreman.
-
This is the first pick that actually pisses me off. They aren’t carrying 4 RBs. The guy who figures to get cut is the only one who is worthwhile in the receiving game.
-
Stetson Bennett to the Rams
-
Lions trade Swift to the Eagles for a 2025 5th.
-
I had the Bears getting Herbig but he was picked one spot sooner by Pittsburgh 😩
-
Stetson Bennett to the Rams
Well, he won't take the Wingback's job...poor Dom.
-
Hope Scott can block.
-
Good pick at WR with Tyler Scott. FAST!
-
Stetson Bennett to the Rams
Wow…for real? Didn’t think he’d even get drafted.
-
Lions trade Swift to the Eagles for a 2025 5th.
I knew that was coming. JFC Swift is actually good. Just had a problem staying healthy. Would have preferred Swift to Johnson 10x over.
-
Still have four more picks. I do like we’ve gotten a lot of picks and players at positions of needs. Especially in the trenches.
-

lol. What isn’t a “position of need” for the Bears?
In before the PAMan comment on QB…
-

Would have gladly traded Montgomery for Swift. Swift much more dynamic.
-
Just saw Scott with a grade “will eventually be a plus starter,” comped to TY Hilton. Yes, please. Hell of a pick if he’s 80% of TY. Smallish though.
-
Adebawore and Scott and I’d be sporting wood right now.
-
lol. What isn’t a “position of need” for the Bears?
In before the PAMan comment on QB…
We all knew he was not going to pick a QB unless he traded The Wingback.
-
We all knew he was not going to pick a QB unless he traded The Wingback.
Yeah, but had I not cockblocked you, you’d have certainly chimed in about “the need at QB.”
-
Darius Rush to Colts. He was a guy I was interested in. Wouldn’t have been upset if the Bears had drafted another corner. Big. Great speed.
-
That Roschon Johnson pick makes no sense to me. Some solid prospects still going off the board. Johnson needs to be a high level contributor to justify that pick.
-
Yeah, but had I not cockblocked you, you’d have certainly chimed in about “the need at QB.”
Actually wasn't going to bother. Tired and now full. Was one a few people chased out of a bar by Forest Park cops at closing time last night. Didn't get my 8 hours of sleep last night!
-
That Roschon Johnson pick makes no sense to me. Some solid prospects still going off the board. Johnson needs to be a high level contributor to justify that pick.
He’s kinda a jack of all trades kinda guy I’ve heard. Played QB in HS, can play WR, special teams, etc… aka Velus Jones… 😂 I’m sure you’d appreciate that.
-

8 hours? I’d kill for 6

I don't know why the focus on CB. I thought they were the only competent part of the D last year. They must hate Jaylen Johnson
-

A much slower Velus Jones! Sign me up!
-

It’s a position I don’t think you can have too many of. If you’ve got 4 pretty good ones, you’re the best unit in the league. Even 3
-
8 hours? I’d kill for 6
Thankfully my kids are old enough that those days are done. Now I just can't sleep past 7am....
-
Any good bars in Forest Park? I’ve never been drunk in Forest Park before.
-

Sure, but, as you have said, they have tons of holes. How is LB looking at this point? The rest of the O line?
-
Any good bars in Forest Park? I’ve never been drunk in Forest Park before.
There are tons of them, that's for sure. It, and Berwyn, are Pottersville to Galewood/Oak Park/River Forest's Bedford Falls.
Per the PassiveSon, FP had 2 bar closing shootings and now they have strict closing time and the cops are "now mean."
At least Berwyn remains dependable with 3AM bars.
-
Sure, but, as you have said, they have tons of holes. How is LB looking at this point? The rest of the O line?
Not bad IMO. Would be fine drafting a potential starting caliber OL. LB they can still find a body somewhere. Their top to FAs were LBs. least important of their concerns IMO.
-
I’d rather they had done anything at 115 rather than Johnson. Hope he makes me eat my words. Chase Brown still out there? At least give me a guy who can catch and run away from people.
-

LB for you, Tempo
-
I’d rather they had done anything at 115 rather than Johnson. Hope he makes me eat my words. Chase Brown still out there? At least give me a guy who can catch and run away from people.
The women in the Bear draft room probably told Poles to pick him.
-
LB for you, Tempo
Scouting report I just read: “lacks instincts and closing speed.” Perfect!
-
Oregon is known for their defensive prowess.
-
Don’t love everything he’s done in this draft, but I am getting pretty optimistic about the next year or two. Gonna be lots of new bodies next year, and some of them might actually be able to play.
-
With no Rodgers, Lions getting suspended, Kirk Cousins is still the Viking QB, getting anything out of the draft should be gravy for the Bear
-
I hate that we spent a 4th rounder on a likely backup RB when Detroit traded Swift away for a 5th.
-
With no Rodgers, Lions getting suspended, Kirk Cousins is still the Viking QB, getting anything out of the draft should be gravy for the Bear
Suspended?

Suspended?
Didn't a bunch of Lions get suspended for gambling on the Lion football campus?

Passing on a 280 DT/Edge who runs a 4.49 and was projected to be a high 2nd rounder for a guy who projects to be a between the tackles backup RB really pisses me the fuck off.

Terell Smith CB Minnesota

Minny CB for you, Tempo

4 time (academic) all big ten!

Chase Brown a Bengal. Good for him
That’s awesome. Hope the Bengals don’t get fucked in the playoffs for the third year in a row next year.
-
I may not love every pick, but Poles definitely seems to have a type. Size/athleticism/toughness/character. I like it.
-
If you don't get shot, you'll have a great time!
I go over there maybe once a month as I know a bartender who is over there on Fridays.
Awesome. So you’re telling me I should take my .45?
-
Chase Brown a Bengal. Good for him
Excellent spot for him. They need someone to catch out of the backfield. Perrine now a donkey so there's room.
-
Don’t think the Bears pick again until the 7th.
-
If you are watching Day 3 of the draft does.ABC really think you want to see Fall Out Boy?
-
Despite the Texans winning that last game, they seem to have done quite well for themselves in this draft.
-
Excellent spot for him. They need someone to catch out of the backfield. Perrine now a donkey so there's room.
Great fit. Great QB. Chance to win big and be the feature back.
-
Awesome. So you’re telling me I should take my .45?
That would be illegal.
-
Despite the Texans winning that last game, they seem to have done quite well for themselves in this draft.
Impossible. Tanking is everything.

I think they gave up too much for Anderson. They might have given up the first pick in next years’ draft. Plus more.
-
Impossible. Tanking is everything.
Posting rights on who has better record, Bears vs Texans?
-
I can see why Tempo is pissed. An absolute underwhelming shit job by the Bears of trying to draft impact players.
A RB in the 4th round? Couple reach DTs in the 2nd. A bust in Claypool. Passing on Carter
Trying to be a bad team is not a plan for success in the NFL. Ryan Poles has had a bad year and a worse draft
-
I may not love every pick, but Poles definitely seems to have a type. Size/athleticism/toughness/character. I like it.
Yeah,he’s drafting athletes who are bad at football
-
Yeah,he’s drafting athletes who are bad at football
It’s possible.
-
Don’t love everything he’s done in this draft, but I am getting pretty optimistic about the next year or two. Gonna be lots of new bodies next year, and some of them might actually be able to play.
Why? Sounds like bargaining to me. Replacing bad players they couldn’t coach up, with more “bodies”.
This is the grief talking.
But Tempo is in a rough spot bc he’s hitched his wagon to Fields and the tank plan.
-
He definitely seems to value projection over production. I like a marriage of both, but honestly don’t know where that compromise is exactly.

Dude. The guys they had last year were 28 year old guys clinging to the league. And they were competitive most games. These are young, more athletic players. I will admit it looks like Poles is counting on the coaches coaching them up. But by and largeX I think we saw that last year. That roster was pathetic, Dom.
-
They’ve upgraded the roster fairly significantly on almost every unit.

Tempo, reading your posts is quite the rollercoaster ride.

Bet or no bet?

How hilarious would it be to see the Texans lose the 1st pick to the Bears the way they did, and then give away the rights to Caleb Williams?
-
I don't pay much attention to the NFL unless Illini players are being drafted.
That said, talented athletes versus skilled players is always a dilemma in both major sports. In basketball, would you rather have a high ceiling guy like RJ (or Rodgers, or Harris) or a high floor guy like Domask (or Goode or Epps)?
Looks like the Bears got both with their first pick.
-
I’m confident Wright will be a good player. The rest, we’ll see. I think the upside is there. And looks like the work ethic and want to. That’s a good start.
-
Holy shit, saw Swift was traded but didn’t realize it was to the Eagles. FML. The Eagles are going to be a pain in the ass for a long time.

What kind of potion or magic beans does Howie Roseman posses?

Scott could be a steal. Only thing he lacks his size apparently. He could overtake Darnell Mooney if he’s as good as his scouting report says he is.

Who do you think? The team that didn’t “tank.”

Bet with Dom. It's heads he wins, tails you lose.

Just thought after this comment you’d maybe be game (no I didn’t).

Yes. I will pick them to win the Super Bowl. Like I picked the Illini to win The Only Tournament That Matters in basketball.

In case you forgot, I said picking an OSU QB was not optimal given the history of bad pro QBs. Hell, the GM reportedly did not want to pick him and the owner made him.

Never say never....he will be better, because his bar for being a passer is starting so low. He simply can't be worse than he has been when it comes to passing.

I do. But I doubt those expectations will be met.
I expected him to play better than he has too.
He was the 11th pick in the draft. I expected him to be somewhat competent at a minimum. I've been very disappointed in his play.

“I'm finding that there are a few people like Tempo who are really, really invested in everyone agreeing that Justin Fields is an NFL QB or going to be one.“ - ThePAMan 11/19/22
Wit this quote, you are quite literally saying he will “never be an NFL quarterback.” Yet, you “expect him to pull it together.” Which the fuck is it?
You can’t even be serious right now. Sometimes I think you’re just playing a bit. Like when I was a staunch advocate of trans athletes in women’s sports (something I clearly never said). Or that I said that “FT shooting doesn’t matter,” something else I clearly never ever ever ever ever ever said. And when I say never I mean ever ever ever ever. As in never (ever ever ever).
You HAVE to be playing a bit.
-
It is completely on brand that such a nuanced and layered thinking The Score listener such as yourself cannot comprehend these concepts.
-
That quote literally gives the overwhelming implication that you think he will always suck as an NFL quarterback. You argued almost daily for 9 months about how much he sucks. I even made the case that “he might get better if they put better players around him.”’ Which you furiously shot down a dozen times. And now you’re saying “I expect him to pull it together.”
It does not surprise me in the least you see no inconsistency in that.
-
ThePAMan is correct.

Feel free to explain. I won’t hold my breath.

Classic strawman and Tempoing here....
1. You, like quite a few others, have a vested interest that everyone agree with you re Justin Fields.
2. Of course he can be an NFL QB or even a superstar NFL QB. I think the odds are against it. You, and others, think it has already happened or he already is a superstar.
3. He was the 11th pick in the draft. I expected him, as the 11th pick in the draft, to be better than the trash he has been passing the ball. I expected him, as the 11th pick in the draft, to be better and a serviceable NFL QB. The Bears did too, or else they would not have made him the 11th pick in said draft. Do I think he will be? Unfortunately, no. Is the expectation still there that he should be? Yes, he was the 11th pick in the draft.
4. I never used the words "staunch" or "advocate" either singularly or jointly. You typed that you "might" make an exception when it came for trans women playing women sports. As discussed, ad nauseam, the word "might" was the key word, as it meant you had not, at that time, actually "made" said exception. Which means you were for it before you were against it. At this point, given your communication and logic skills, I am skeptical you even know what you meant when you typed your post.
5. As for free shots, you ridiculed the notion that an accurate assessment of the Illini's free shot shooting could be made until Jan 16th. Well, you happened to be wrong.
-
And yet you “expect him to pull it together!”
He expects Fields to meet the job classifications of a starting NFL QB. Everyone should expect it, he was a #11 pick.
He's not saying that he assumes ( expects) it will happen when he says "expect him to be".

Then why spend the last 8-9 months saying he sucks and is basically a lost cause? He wouldn’t even humor me on “let’s see what he does next year with more help.” No, instead he ripped him repeatedly that’s he’s a lost cause and will never be good.
-
Trey Lance was the 2nd quarterback picked in the draft. I don’t “expect” anything out of him. Or Mitch Trubisky. I’m not sure I ever had “expectations” for Mitch Trubisky. I’m sure I had hope. But that faded fast. Just as PAMan’s hope clearly faded quickly for Fields. I can assure you, I certainly had no “expectation” of Mitch Trubisky after I was confident he sucked.

You won't even admit he has sucked. PFF had him last when he had time and an open receiver.
Hope he turns it around as it will suck if he doesn't.

Welp, draft week is over. All in all Poles did some good things. Hard not to upgrade the team off of what RBG had last year though. Wright should be a good addition. The keys to the draft should be the 2nd and 3rd rounders (and Scott). High upside guys maybe a bit short on production but have good “football character” according to reports.
Poles definitely loves his RAS system (which I’d never even heard of until PAMan mentioned it). About 5 rounds in saw something that every player he took graded highly in it.
After doing some research on Roschon Johnson I like what I’ve read. Still skeptical he was a wise choice with Adebawore there to be had. Think he would have made the DL draft an A+.
Pretty excited about Scott. TY Hilton comp is NICE.
I could see every pick except the 7th round DT making the team. But again, fairly low bar seeing they need an infusion of youth, talent, a bodies everywhere.
Hopeful they can still pull off a big trade (maybe a Chase Young, Mike Evans, or a starting Center?). Still think they are in a good position to land a premium cap cut casualty. They have the money.
Bears vs Texans wins bet is still open to PAMan!

Ok, you hooked me. Real quick. You don’t take into account 2nd year QB learning a new system with little to no help. That’s fine. But you also cherry pick stats. Here is a ranking that might be more accurate. Not good, but not the worst as you like to claim. Some familiar names are below him. I’m sure you and Dom think Baker is a better quarterback. Hell, you legitimately think Trevor Siemian is a better quarterback. Wonder who Siemian will be starting for this year? The Arizona RoughRiders? How funny is it that Siemian autocorrected to “asinine” for me?

The PFF stat cited responds to your constant whining that JFC had nothing around him, he is always on the run due to the line, the receivers suck and never got open, etc. The PFF stat was simple: have time to pass and at least one receiver is open. He had the worst ranking. In the league, per PFF, in this category. In no way, shape, or form, is that defensible from the cornerstone of your franchise.
As for the list, look who he is behind. The brutally bad passing numbers are obviously offset by his great running numbers to get him to #29. 29th. Wow. Awesome.
Sadly, even Trevor Siemian looked somewhat competent in the offense for part of a half (until the shot wore off). Arguabky yet another indictment of the poor play by the starting QB, the cornerstone of your franchise, the 11th pick in the draft. It is Getsy's fault, since he calls the plays!
-
Assuming that you consider Mayfield a disappointment, would that be because he doesn't meet your expections of what a starting NFL QB should be able to do ?
-
Hamp and OB like the Bear draft and its focus on linemen. OB wanted an OL instead of the RB. Hamp's Texas buddies said Johnson was very popular in the Texas locker room; 1st in, last out type of guy. OB still not sold on Fields; Hamp very positive he can develop.

This literally could be rephrased "Do you think Baker Mayfield is bad because he's bad?" There's about a dimes' worth of difference in those questions.
-
Good for them, the program and their trash coach.
Typical Mn low quality here. Sticking with a two year old meme on something I've since retracted a very long time ago. Almost entirely a low-hanging fruit poster. Outside of the rare gem.
-
But you don’t make the same “help”excuses for Trubisky that you do with Fields? Why?
In the same way you concluded Trubisky sucked, I can say the same for Fields
For multiple reasons. Trubisky hasn't played here in 3 years for one. He had an actual NFL team that was trying to win around him. He had Allen Robinson and short fields thanks to a great defense that generated turnovers and stops. I can't remember exactly when I "gave up" on Trubisky, but I know I quit "having expectations" somewhere in his 3rd year. His 2nd year, he clearly had limitations but I thought he'd get better. He didn't.

I assume that you expected Mayfield to be better than he has shown.
I assume that you expected Mayfield to improve.
In your eyes, he isn't and hasn't.
Tho you disagree, the same can be said of Fields.
Tho you said Fields should be given 20 starts to assess, it's now become maybe this year.
Expecting a 1st round draft pick to improve is just not the same as expecting he will. Mayfield has struggled and, in some minds, the jury is still in deliberations on Fields.

I “expect” the Wingback to improve. You are easily the most obnoxious poster here. That is quite a feat. And that’s coming from someone who full well knows he can be obnoxious.
-
One of the reasons I’ve engaged you for so long on Fields is I wanted to see how hard you’d dig in. The answer is: harder than the Germans dug in at Normandy. Until you “expected him to pull it together.” If you KNOW he sucks, why would you expect him to pull it together? You literally shot down that idea 30+ times in the 8-9 months. But in your mind, you’re nothing if not consistent. Consistent a-hole is about right.

Seriously though, why do you have to be such a disingenuous schmuck? Your pot-stirring skills are good enough without having to go full heel.

Why would you expect someone to improve when you argue daily for a year that they irretrievably suck?
And this is fact, because you loudly and proudly dismissed the notion that he could get better when he gets more help. Is English not your first language?

Yes. I will pick them to win the Super Bowl. Like I picked the Illini to win The Only Tournament That Matters in basketball.
Because PAMan “expects” Fields to improve. Even though he can’t improve because PAMan thoroughly rejected the idea about 2-3 dozen times over the last 8-9 months. “Mr Words Matter!” Folks.

Poles and Eberflus really love the new RBs blocking.
I’m wondering if Pace is angling a trade for Chase Young. Didn’t draft any DEs. He’d certainly fit their criteria of “long, athletic, and fast.”
I’ll give them credit, they do more than give “culture” lip service. They are clearly looking for character on and off the field.

I “expected” more from Mayfield before he proved in like year 4 he was who he was. I certainly hadn’t made any final judgments in his 2nd year. I actually thought he looked ok as a rookie who was in a difficult spot. He never got much better.

Tho you said Fields should be given 20 starts to assess, it's now become maybe this year.
Expecting a 1st round draft pick to improve is just not the same as expecting he will. Mayfield has struggled and, in some minds, the jury is still in deliberations on Fields.
It’s also fairly moronic to “expect” someone to improve when you’ve spent 5 days a week for the last 9 months shooting down the mere possibility that he will.
-
I “expected” more from Mayfield before he proved in like year 4 he was who he was. I certainly hadn’t made any final judgments in his 2nd year. I actually thought he looked ok as a rookie who was in a difficult spot. He never got much better.
So it's possible that someone may view the Fields situation similarly ?
-
So it's possible that someone may view the Fields situation similarly ?
I wasn’t calling Baker a massive failure with virtually no chance to improve. Other than they are/were both young quarterbacks, how is it “similar?”
-
So it's possible that someone may view the Fields situation similarly ?
Another difference, as I made clear, I allowed Baker some leeway as it was clear he wasn’t in a good situation to prosper. He also had a bad line and an overmatched coach.

One, Mayfield, hasn't performed up to expectations for a high 1st round pick.
The other, Fields, is not necessarily destined by proclamation to perform to expectations.

Part of the Bears' vision for RB Roschon Johnson is to remember that he was a star QB in high school.

Because Johnson got a good grade? That’s great. Doesn’t mean Adeboware wouldn’t have been a better/wiser pick. Unless Johnson is the starter, I don’t know what he brings that they had to have this year.
-
After reading reports/videos on Johnson, really like what I’ve heard/read on him. Sounds like a good “football player” high character guy. Just think a high 2nd round graded DE/3T in Adeboware does more for them. My guess is they passed on him because he’s “only” 6’2.

I know he said it. But that doesn’t mean they drafted him because the quarterback can’t throw. Which is the point you thought you were cleverly making.
-
If they were looking for someone to throw the ball other than Fields, they’d have drafted a quarterback.
-
I’ll set the over/under on Roschon Johnson pass attempts for the year at 4.5. Which is probably high. So I don’t think it’s going to be a major feature of the offense. So, low quality troll effort.

RAS probably not high enough for Poles to draft him. Going to go with the odds that the Bear screwed this up and won't get a top 5 pick out of this.

True. But that only changes the percentages. Trump was still the underdog who no one though was going to win.

If you believe, at this point, that JFC should have been the 2d pick in any draft, then that draft sucked ass because he has sucked ass as a passer.

Hey man if you want to be like JudgeJudy be like her, I'm just pointing out that she's a moron and at one point you used to not be.
Get personal if you want, try to needle me about something I gave a shit about - obviously giving a shit is the most embarrassing thing you can do here in your eyes. I'd be much, much more embarrassed about behaving like a sixth grader like you do here every day than I am for believing when someone told me my friend had died. That's just me though.

So you’re saying you didn’t fall for it? Seeing as how pretty much everyone did, I’m guessing you weren’t the outlier. Just because it didn’t offend you when you found out it was a bit doesn’t mean you didn’t fall for it. Or are you claiming AOTC on Jobu’s death? Because if you felt it was a bit, you’re just as deranged as Jobu. I don’t think faking your own death would be something 99.8% of posters would have even considered let alone thought of.

All apologies to Jobu, who seems, semi-normal for a deranged person.

Jobu needs (and hopefully is getting) therapy, but there's a reason he is who he is.

I think some of us viewed the people we talked to every day on there as friends, because occasionally we would discuss real life things, we knew a bit about eachother, developed a rapport, etc.
That's different than taking it 'too seriously'. I GAF about my friends, even if they're just online friends.

It's great that he's excited about a crystal ball.
Welcoming a guy to a team he hasn't committed to is weird, is it not? If he was committed he'd be committed.
If you really believe that acknowledging that makes me an angry guy but pretending somebody molests their kid as a joke doesn't say shit about you, well - you and I are very different, and frankly I'm pretty uninterested in hashing that out.
-
I'm don't get angry like you two do.
I think you’re lying. That’s why you go out of your way to take personal digs. And no, creating sock accounts based on another posters takes or calling someone a dimwit isn’t nearly as personal as making shit up about their personal lives and relationships. But you just thought you were “getting even.” Or that I “could dish it out but couldn’t take it.” You can make fun of my sports takes all day long. God knows you guys have, for years.

Lol. Perfect entry into the discussion. Well done.
Yeah, I’m not participating in this. The only thing I will say is the people that say other people need therapy or “help” often need help themselves.
Look in the mirror and clean up your own shit, guys. And leave me out of it.
-
And I still care about ThePAMan.
-
Isn't that the "beauty" of The Cesspool? JFC (not the player), Truth is still even allowed to post here.
I’d prefer we dial it back a hair. We can mock each other without being real ugly about it.

I can still count on you to fake your own death, and stalk my Twitter profile (sharing what you find), and drawing penis’ to my mouth though, right?

I'll say this, Tempo, I see no reason why I would not like you offline, in person. If I have an extra football ticket and we drove down together, I'm sure we'd still argue about JFC for 2 hours.

No doubt! But I think we’d be laughing a lot more.

I'm thinking QAnon97 would be disappointed by that.

True.

No. I’m real fucking busy at work, my son is graduating from college, we are going on a trip, and I’m having surgery. You are pretty much the last thing on my mind right now.
I just came on tonight to see what was up, and walked into a shitshow.

I'm going to look real fucking bad if your kid comes on here and tells us you croaked on the operating table...

LOL

《The above is a morbid joke....to be clear》

And, for the record, Spark, I'm betting we would get along well if we met in person too...

A rain check is fine. Just don’t forget about me. Congrats on your son. Same one that announced your death? Good luck with surgery.

I figured you would!

I like the pick quite a bit, but #1 on this list surprises me.

Agreed. Looks like a good, solid, safe first pick; but ranking a RT #1 wouldn’t seem to say much for the rest of the class.

I do not want to trigger anyone as occurred last time, but would this be akin to the draft where JFC was now ranked second behind Lawrence?

No, not at all.

Who did you trigger?

Wasn’t sure where to put this, wanted to spare everyone a new thread…
It’s no longer “Hey kid, get off my lawn!” Now it’s, “Hey kid, mow my lawn!”

When I was a kid we weren't told "Hey kid, mow my lawn". We would ask if they needed their lawn mowed. We would hear both yes and no.
I asked the neighbor kids if they would like to mow my lawn. They're happy to make money mowing lawns in the neighborhood.
But, go ahead, and twist it to "Hey kid, mow my lawn."

It was a joke, lighten up, Francis!

My neighbors are high school kids.
And good kids.

If it was, it would have included a whipping from a belt, and the kid would have been better off for it.

Yeah do that you old man!

Lol.
"And his measurements are made "generously." Young officially measured at 5-foot-10 1/8 and weighed 204 pounds at the combine. Those numbers are real. As a journalist, shouldn't you check before you write?????"
"Yep, this is a really clickbaity take."

His weight was probably inflated. “Real,” but inflated. Probably was drinking lots of shakes and eating ice cream to get over 2 bills.

Whatever.
Maybe he's been doing squats since his last game.
It's OTAs.
The Bear QB hit an offensive lineman in the back of the head during an NFL game.

Does this sound like someone “upset” with the draft? I see almost every pick making the team. And am encouraged about the upside.
Surprised I didn’t mention the DBs, which I like.

As I mentioned, you were initially upset, actually, after going through the posts, I would say more "underwhelmed upset" (versus an angry upset - if that makes sense), and then came around.

Disappointed Bijan wasn’t on the board. Underwhelmed with the return on Jalen Carter (and irked they gave him to the Eagles). Not upset with the Darnell Wright pick.
-
Bears choose culture over talent. I’m good with the stand. I just hope they get more than the last pick in the 4th round next year for it.
Here’s my “meltdown.”
-
I feel like the girl who wanted the dangerous and exciting boyfriend and got the boring/safe boyfriend instead.
Meltdown!
