We've always accepted asylum seekers. That's not an argument to deny the poor execution at the border.
Fortunately some influential Democrats told us it was about picking the crops. I'm not sure the Democrat who said that she needed constituents got the right memo tho.
A lot more than "asylum seekers" came.
The so-called poor execution was due to a shortage of assets -- holding facilities, courts, judges, etc. plus a dramatic increase in people seeking entry. It started before Biden took office.
There were multiple causes of the surge.
Improving economic conditions created a job shortages in hospitality and services, ag, construction, etc..
Deteriorating conditions in Cuba, Haiti Nicaragua
The economic collapse in Venezuela
A belief Biden et al would give asylum seekers a fair shake
Trump's Remain in Mexico and Zero Tolerance policies aggravated the situation. Also his failed poorly constructed wall wasted resources
Republicans don't want to spend the money to maintain let alone upgrade border security.
I can keep writing the same thing in different ways
