And yet..

Maybe you're right.  Maybe you aren't.  You can guarantee anything you'd like.

I'm sure Dee and Ayo want that to be true.  It seems like it was mostly true for them, ignoring that Dee almost left a couple times.  I don't know that that means it is true though.

And those are people associated with Illinois basketball.  Of course they'd be disappointed.  They're Illini fans.

But not everyone in Illinois is.  I knew a number of people involved in HS basketball in Illinois who specifically didn't like Illini basketball, as a matter of fact.

I’ve tried over and over to explain this. To no avail. Dee Brown and Ayo could have gone anywhere. But they chose Illinois, partly because Illinois has appeal to local kids. Again, that doesn’t mean every local kid is a slam dunk; even the Rayj’s of the world.

It’s like holding a good hand in poker and getting beat on the river. It happens. You get beat, lick your wounds and try again.

At no point have I ever tried to say local kids should be slam dunks to commit to Illinois. Never. As in never ever ever.

And sure, there are people who actively dislike Illinois. But they probably aren’t going on recruiting visits there, especially at 22 years old.

It’s quite clear to me that you’d be shocked at some of the shit that happens in high major basketball and football recruiting..

Perhaps, but I’d be willing to bet that the vast majority of recruits actually have an interest in the school when they go on recruiting visits. Especially 22 year olds.

Well, to repeat something I've had to say about 25 times so far in this discussion:

if I see someone who thinks RayJ wasn't interested in Illinois, I'll let them know you think that.

You're arguing against that point, but no one seems to be making it.

24 > 4

He did more than “say it,” he followed up on it.

It's not as tho he reinvented the wheel. Indiana and Purdue have 31 and 32 players from Indiana and 4 each from Illinois.
A working relationship with the state HS programs is a basic job requirement. Pitching 'you're from Illinois so you should come to Illinois' isn't going to get the staff in the kid's front door.

You still have to have something to offer. And also having a staff to coach up the 3 stars helps. Next target is the Illinois 4 stars and 5 stars that go to the Michigans and Notre Dames.

Quick look into the Utah staff of coaches, reveals absolutely no on on staff currently that has ties to Toledo, Oswego, etc....interesting enough there is a coach from Effingham Il on the staff though.

All coaches have been on staff for at least 2 years up to 12 I think.

They start a new one I think when the ongoing one becomes ridiculously off track, too critical of anyone on team or staff or the insiders, or too long.

Dan closes threads when they go excessively sideways and stars new ones.
