And yet..
Maybe you're right. Maybe you aren't. You can guarantee anything you'd like.
I'm sure Dee and Ayo want that to be true. It seems like it was mostly true for them, ignoring that Dee almost left a couple times. I don't know that that means it is true though.
And those are people associated with Illinois basketball. Of course they'd be disappointed. They're Illini fans.
But not everyone in Illinois is. I knew a number of people involved in HS basketball in Illinois who specifically didn't like Illini basketball, as a matter of fact.
I’ve tried over and over to explain this. To no avail. Dee Brown and Ayo could have gone anywhere. But they chose Illinois, partly because Illinois has appeal to local kids. Again, that doesn’t mean every local kid is a slam dunk; even the Rayj’s of the world.
It’s like holding a good hand in poker and getting beat on the river. It happens. You get beat, lick your wounds and try again.
At no point have I ever tried to say local kids should be slam dunks to commit to Illinois. Never. As in never ever ever.
And sure, there are people who actively dislike Illinois. But they probably aren’t going on recruiting visits there, especially at 22 years old.
