From what I have read, the scare mongering is something else on this one. Lazy State's Attorneys are now required to show that the person is a risk as opposed to it being assumed for cash bail purposes. For a few offenses, that is already the case.

I found out Thursday that I may be viewed as a threat to democracy, so I've been trying to watch my ps and qs ever since. I may have slipped a couple of times tho.

Straight-up agitprop lying like most of what's in these stupid newspapers some rich bozo is sending out. A charge doesn't become "non-detainable" because it's not an automatic detention. If the prosecutor can't make a clear and convincing showing [to an ex-prosecutor judge, in most cases] that someone charged with agg. battery, kidnapping, or 2nd degree homicide should be detained with bail pending trial, either the person shouldn't be locked up or you need a new prosecutor.

In almost any other context, conservatives understand that the state can't just lock people up for fun. But if it's predominantly black men and drug-using sinners in the mind's eye, suddenly authoritarianism looks rather tempting.

I can't imagine Harvard puts a lot of people with 6 figure debt into non-profit/public sector work where they weren't already lined up for 10-year PLSF discharge. There's a 0% chance it's "thousands" (Tribe is a moron) and even if it were, 10k is nothing on six figure debt, probably the interest that accrued on 1L debt before bar admission that never should've been charged in the first place.

I came around to loving the policy, but it has nothing to do with helping lawyers or doctors, and particularly not those from Harvard.

Remember the Illinois State Scholarship Commission?  It administered nine different financial aid programs for college students, starting in the late 50s.  Good program.  Helped many students throughout the state pay their tuition and fees at the time.  I think most of its programs were curtailed or sharply cut back in the early 80s when the feds phased down funding for state educational block grants.

I didn't do any of those, but questioning an election like Stacey Abrams did, or Jamie Raskin did, or Amy Klobuchar did or condoning violence like Kamala Harris did, or Chuck Schumer did, or Nancy Pelosi did, or Maxine Waters did shouldn't necessarily get someone labeled a threat to democracy.

Abrams and Trump both refused to concede.

Abrams acknowledged that Kemp won according to the rules in place. Trump claimed he won in a landslide.

Abrams claimed systemic voter suppression and cited evidence; iirc, there is a pending lawsuit. Trump claimed massive voter fraud without evidence.

Abrams's basis is that not enough people were allowed to vote; Trump's is that too many people voted.

Yep. Equivalency.  /s
