Are you expecting "them" to do this? Who is "them"? Or are you doing anything yourself?
A lot of incumbent politicians got their ass handed to them in 2018 and in these primaries. Ed Markey is working for meaningful change, but the old guard ran Joe Kennedy against him, and Kennedy lost.
Like I did in the message you replied to, I try to point out that we don’t have to settle for this nonsense. We only have the illusion of choice because we as a society have not only allowed it but actively support it.
I’m not going to run for office or stump for candidates or waste my money donating to campaigns. I don’t really expect anything to change so I’m not going to lose any sleep over it.
But I do think the whole “well I’m gonna hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils” thing is a cop out. Just like the “It’s my duty to vote” trope. I don’t believe it to be any American’s duty to accept being goaded into supporting this sham.
If people keep turning out in droves because they feel it’s their civic duty, then why would there ever be an incentive to improve the product or the system?
It’s like when the Cubs sucked for ages but people still packed Wrigley and spent tons of money thus tacitly accepting the shitty product with a cheery “Wait til next year!”
As long as people keep spending money/turning out in droves for shitty products and shitty leadership that’s exactly what they’re going to keep getting.
