I never thought that porn videos of 8 year olds would be defended.
Do you seriously believe a anyone is defending that?
What Hawley did was equate:
1. Pedophiles who sexually assault 8 yr olds.
2. People who run criminal enterprises that videotape and distribute them.
3. A shy, socially inept 18 year old who possessed and shared some photos and videos that included one image of an 8 yr old. The others were 11 or 12.
Nobody defends 3. It is a serious crime. Judge Jackson called it heinous. She gave him some hard time. Older men caught with more child porn have gotten off with probation.
There are three issues I see.
1. Conflating 3 very distinct kinds of sex crimes. All 3 are serious. But equating looking at pictures with trafficking or the actual deed is obviously wrong.
2. Pretty much everyone agrees the federal sentencing guidelines for possession are out of date. It appears everyone involved in the process suggests sentences lesser than the guideline minimum.
3. None of the people complaining appear to have met or interviewed Wesley Hawkins. His psychological profile said he is not a pedophile and is not a threat to children.
It is brought up that he uploaded something to YouTube. No mention where he found it? Tells me he was low hanging fruit for the FBI. Now he is low hanging fruit for pricks like Hawley.
