Was at the doctors office this morning and whatever TV program was on in the background was talking about how fast food restaurants are bringing back extra value meals because they’ve lost so many customers due to out of hand prices.
We grilled out some chicken kabobs yesterday. Two chicken breasts, an onion, green pepper. Even organic at whole paycheck, and if you toss in a buck for amortized cost of olive oil and spices, we were out like 12 bucks, for 5 decent kabobs. A few years ago maybe that's 9 bucks.
Go out to eat around here, probably 25-30 bucks, maybe they throw 30 cents worth of rice on the plate. Groceries are up but labor costs are the real issue. With the fast food places it's also them trying to grab as much profit margin as possible. The rubicon has been crossed. I eat out like... never. It wouldn't bankrupt me but it just fucking pisses me off so I just can't do it. An omelet is not 20 bucks homie.
And they crossed the rubicon. They can bring back lower prices but they've built into me the behavior that we just cook. Period.
I'll eat out when we go to Vegas. Which - is only happening because we are going to the Broncos game. And we are staying way off strip. My sister is stopping at Costco on the way to the hotel to get a case of water and beer. I never did *like* paying for a beer in Vegas, but sometimes you just don't feel like putting quarters into the VP machine or sitting down at a table and waiting for service, and beer at the bar in the casino was like half of a bar in SF so who cares - but now a beer in Vegas is MORE than one in SF. Hell, it's probably as cheap at the Raiders game as it is at Aria.
Back in the day, I was at the Mirage and hanging in the sports book watching the Illini, I think this was circa Kiwane Garris. A waitress just was bringing me beers, I was tipping her but the beers were comped. Then they moved to where you had to get a ticket for a beer when you made a bet, but they were pretty much just giving them away for any bet. I've been told at Bellagio sports book, to get a beer comp you have to make FIVE HUNDRED in wagers.
fuck the corporations. Except Costco.
