Then why are we not texting all the best living coaches?

Never say never.  Gotta take the biggest swing you can.  Miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Because they don’t have any connection to Illinois. As small as the chance is Self returning to Illinois, it’s still greater than Roy Williams coming here from UNC. JFC
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

And loses nothing from it. Except for some guy on the Internet would find the theoretical rejection embarrassing.

And gain nothing from it, except for some guy on the Internet being satisfied about the fact that we did it.

In the same way that a drop of rain is more than no rain, yes.

The difference in likelihood is well within the margin of error, here.  Roy Williams isn't coming to coach at Illinois, and neither is Self.  We can argue that Roy Williams has a 0.00001% chance of saying yes and Self has a 0.001% chance of saying yes, but that's a huge waste of time.  Neither of them are going to say yes.

Can’t hit if you don’t shoot.

I mean. Why not send a message that has no real downside to Self. “Hey man, how about a chance of scenery with less stress but still a high ceiling!”

I love how you switch, literally one post after another, between "gotta take the biggest swing you can"/"can't hit if you don't shoot" and "why would we text Roy and K who have no connection here?"

Gotta take the biggest swing you can, is why.  Can't hit if you don't shoot.  Maybe they'd say yes?  Or be flattered we asked?

Obviously, Whitman wouldn’t say it like that. But Self is a human being. Just like the rest of us.

JFC. Talk about lack of nuance.

So is Roy.  Maybe he'd be flattered?

Why are you so bullish on Self and taking the biggest swing we can, but so resistant to sending a no-harm text to Roy Williams and Coach K?

Again, what it comes down to is you think Self might say yes.  And again, that's why you're being made fun of.

I suppose you could. No downside.

JFC. Talk about lack of nuance.

What nuance is involved in "take the biggest swing you can" exactly?

Because Roy and K have never spoken fondly of their time coaching at Illinois.

You never know when I guy might want to downsize. Especially when he’s dealt with federal probes and suspensions. Self has a history here. One he’s spoken fondly of. So yeah, as minute as that chance is, it’s greater than luring Roy or K. JFC
