Brian Campbell, former Illini and shortest hitter on the PGA Tour just made a 2nd consecutive birdie to take the lead on the back nine at the John Deere Classic.

Barely clinging to a PGA Tour career a few months ago Campbell could be on the verge of claiming his 2nd win this year, when he (again the shortest hitter on Tour) outdueled last week’s winner Aldrich Potgeiter (the longest hitter in high level professional golf) in a playoff.

Huge error on 15th tee results in double bogey for Campbell. Had to take penalty for errant tee shot. Surrenders 1 shot lead. Not out of it, but you have to keep it in play when you’re a short-knocker. He was in control of the tourney and gave it up. Not out of it, but probably needs to go -2 last 4 to get into a playoff or win.

Emiliano Grillo bogeys to create a 3 way tie. Campbell, Grillo, and Kevin Roy (who’s in the clubhouse). Par 5 17th coming up for Campbell. Still a few guys behind him with a chance, but no one making a move as of now.

Campbell a 51%-33% favorite over Grillo to win. Birdied 17, birdie putt on 18.

Grillo and Campbell tied at -18 in the clubhouse. David Lipsky eagles 17th to make it a 3 way tie. Birdie wins.
