Interesting side story here. I lived in Chicago for a long time. Rode the red and brown line all hours of the day/night. Often drunk. Sometimes piss drunk. Never encountered a real safety issue. Not once.

I was also robbed at gun point in Buffalo Grove around 2012.

If you avoid the south and west sides you’re probably fine. Although I did make the news after a murder near the brown line about 9 years ago in Lakeview (as an interviewee, not a suspect…).

Rodgers and Uptown can get dicey.

Downtown was super safe pre-Covid. Seems a little crazier down there now.
