It's a good thing that we're relaxing the idea that cities have business districts everyone commutes to 5 days a week that are dead at night and on the weekends. It's terribly inefficient and wasteful with how we live now vs. 100 years ago.

We need municipalities and commercial lenders to work together in converting commercial RE to efficient quality housing stock. The Loop would be so much better off if the city planned a long-term conversion to where it looked more like the near north side but darn it if these fools aren't going to keep insisting on everyone going back to work downtown and.... it's just not happening.

It seems obvious but the plumbing systems in large office buildings aren't the same as in large apartment buildings, HVAC would be a real bear to convert, etc...

This prosecutor sounds intelligent enough. It's hard to believe he actually thinks the adversarial system -- or corrupt bail system -- was working.  Innocent defendants really did sit in a corrupt jail awaiting trial because they couldn't afford bail and had inadequate defense.
 
Also, whether he likes it or not, when the police break the law, they should be prosecuted.

He seems to actually believe it's okay for cops and prosecutors to ignore our rights; it's up to us to defend them. Guys like him are part of the problem. Good riddance.

One thing he said resonated, there needs to be alternatives.

Defunding police does not work if those funds aren't diverted to effective social services.

That asshole said public defenders are working hard to protect defendants rights? He also seemed okay with innocent defendants sitting in jail two years awaiting trial, only to have the case dismissed due to lack of evidence. And he opposes prosecuting dirty cops?

He did 20 years? So he'll take his generous Illinois pension and move?

Hard to take him seriously.

Than what? One whiney complaining prosecutor who it appears just might possibly struggle to do his job playing by the Bill of Rights?

It's supposed to be hard to charge and convict someone of a crime in this country. The rules are designed to be stacked against the police and prosecution. Bit by bit, that has been eroded in the interests of security. It moves a tiny bit back the other way, omg!
 
There isn't much data, but most of it shows crime has declined compared to last year.
