"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

Despite all the kind things Trump says about China and immigrants. There’s no accounting for taste.

Spoken like a true elitist Progressive. "They are so stupid!" while eating a mouthful of brie.

That is an interesting turn of phrase. Similar to "The Progressive Democrats downplaying of crime issues was part of the problem."

Seems like Eric Adams had no problem running on an anti-crime platform.

Also from "that fucking newspaper":

The Republican solution to crime is prevention via militaristic police tactics and harsh punishment.

The Democrat approach is prevention through things like fair housing and jobs programs; and rehabilitation.

Republicans tend to see drug addiction as a criminal issue; Democrats generally see it as a medical issue.

He ran on "Crime is bad", he will lose re-election on "Crime is still bad because I had no idea what to do about crime"

It always sounds good "get tough on crime!" - to people who don't crime. People who are deterred by long jail sentences are typically deterred by "crime isn't nice". People who don't think "crime isn't nice" are sociopaths who don't really comprehend the concept of getting caught and having a jail sentence. So while most people think "I wouldn't want to go to jail so I wouldn't commit a crime", the people who actually commit crimes don't think that way. Jail is only a deterrent for honest people.

Instead of turning them loose like dumb fuck shitheads like Kim Foxx and the loser that got bounced in SF, I am thinking the answer is probably to lock the scumbags up. But the Progressives cannot have that! We have to coddle the criminals and those who riot and loot our downtowns in the name of "justice." Working well for Portland, isn't it? Unless you want to shop at the local Portland Walmart, because they gawn.

Let's see...  We have PD's that are very costly, the highest % of incarceration, crime rate increasing, lead the universe in mass shootings, have prisons for profit, and an obscene amount of firearms.  I don't think the solution is more money to do more of what we've been doing.  How about about a little more root cause analysis and a little less political pandering all around?

I have been thinking lately about "root causes" as I know a person who will not take prescribed meds to deal with an issue that impacts the person's focus. Now, thankfully, the issues with this person are not such that violence is a potential; it just messes with their ability to be "successful" in life. Smart person, can hold a job, has a support system, but cannot focus enough to channel their smarts into school or a "career" matching their smarts type of thing. Won't take the meds because the person does not like how they make them feel, despite knowing it would help them succeed in life.

As you travel around Chicago, you see all these tents set up under underpasses, etc. and now I see people "living" between downtown underground L stops.  If the percentage of these people who are homeless due to mental issues that can be helped by meds is, say, 25% (it may be more or less, who knows?), how do you get people to take their meds that do not make them like how they feel, when "smart person," who has a ton of advantages in life, won't do it? I'm game for suggestions because you are right, this is not working.

PAM seems to be under the impression we have two options; lock up and punish the bad guys, or let them go out to commit more crimes.

Perhaps we can reform the bad guys as well as the causes and conditions that created them? That is not the same as simply releasing offenders and doing nothing.

Why don't we just put *everyone* into prison. Decide a few people are "the good ones" who get to be guards and wardens and run the collective.

There isn't enough money to lock all the people you think are "the bad ones". Unless you are planning to start executing people for low level drug offenses and breaking into cars, you are advocating for bankrupting the nation.

It's a really elegant position really - "If we locked people up, there would be no crime!" knowing full well that the people who are running the show know they don't have enough money to put your complaint into action, so you can grift off complaining about the lack of action on a solution you know is impossible and probably doesn't even do the job (not you personally, the Tucker Carlson's of the world).

Combine the existence of fetal alcohol syndromes and GOP restrictions on abortion and voila!

Mandate that everyone practice the noble 8 fold path.

Cognitive therapy is an option to medication, but it is time consuming and expensive.

Buddhist meditation - right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration - feels good and the entry level is fairly easy to teach.
