I'm really surprised it's so high. I'm heartened by the unity.  I recognize the numbers will shift.  We just saw a sizable part of the population lose their shit having to wear masks in public.
Well, a huge percentage of them expect the magical oil fairy to drill baby drill here and keep the prices down.
And a huge percenage expects us to clamp down on oil company greed and keep the prices down.

NYC definitely had good public transportation 30 - 50 years ago. Most people used the ferry and subway. It was very easy to navigate.

NE IL Is not too terrible between rural show buses, pace, city buses, commuter lines, the L, etc a person can figure it out and get where they need to go. It can be a hassle.

Were they expecting to get some money but prices to stay the same? You can't have it both ways. I didn't get any of those stimulus checks and my prices went up too. And I'm cool with it, I can stomach a little less purchasing power so people on the edge get more.

The handouts were a short term thing. They aren’t ongoing. Those dollars in those hands were spent looong ago. Many people improved their job situation the last two years. Many others didn’t. Unless the people on the edge have improved their earning power, their buying power is being eroded at a much higher effective rate than yours. This isn’t rocket science.
