I agree, but their doesn't seem to be widespread interest.  Most farmers seem to be happy with the status quo.  So be it.

Because the chickpea market is currently satisfied. Farmers will grow what there is demand for. And they really don’t have the ability to magically generate more demand for other crops. That has to come from the market. Look what happened with the ethanol mandates. That actually shifts Farmer behavior. Maybe if terribly unhealthy processed foods and potato chips and the like were taking off of EBT and snap benefits and replaced with legume based snacks, it would increase demand for other crops. If that demand existed then farmers would adapt in a heartbeat. I don’t understand why you think they can all of a sudden start growing other crops with no market for them. That would be financial suicide.

Democratic NYC Mayor and Presidential Candidate Michael Bloomberg tried to ban larger sized sodas at movies and restaurants, and add a tax on Soda. The commie liberals in SF tried to do the same.

But your Christian Republicans made sure there is plenty of High Fructose Corn Syrup for everyone. They appreciated your vote.

Oh FFS the ethanol stuff has been bipartisan since day 1. Billed as renewable clean energy by the democrats and it would be political suicide for them to end mandates without a backup plan. Weak sauce.

Corn is cheap. People weren’t buying bushels of corn with SNAP. Potato chips are relatively expensive. People ARE buying them with SNAP. Soybeans and chickpeas and the like are higher value crops and require fewer inputs.

Create the demand and farmers will grow it. Ethanol isn’t paying the bills anymore.

Here you have a village in Canada that’s so worried about climate change that they’re trying to move a really old fishing village that’s 2 m above sea level because the sea might rise 1 m by the end of the century. The town is being torn apart over it and every one is in disagreement. They act like it’s a done deal that this town is eventually going to be underwater soon. Of course, at the end they put in a little qualifier that they’re just not getting the storms and the sea level rise that they thought they were going to be getting. The evidence that the climate crisis is destroying the village is basically limited to the fact that the little isthmus that connects to the mainland is being slowly eroded. Pretty sure that’s been happening for like, ever. Fucking hilarious.

This is a reminder that melting sea ice doesn’t raise sea level more than the melting ice in your Coke raises the level of the Coke in your glass. There’s more sea ice in the north now than there was in2007 when Al Gore predicted there would be no more sea ice by 2014 as he accepted his Nobel Peace Prize for his work propagandizing climate change.

Even Bill Gates has come out and admitted we’ve gone about this all wrong the last few decades. Glad this genius finally came around to my way of thinking.
