GOTCHA he died on the 7th!

Apparently he didn’t suffer any blunt force trauma and texted his brother from the hospital saying he was fine prior to his death. No one really seems to know why he died.

I guess it’s ok if the Times publishes fake news using dubious anonymous sources as long as the end result is what you guys want, right? It’s been said here before that as long as the end justifies the means...do WINT

Yes, the NYT messed up and should be called out.  Reporting without all the facts is often inaccurate. 

But it looks like the nutters are rushing to score political points with this story.   So far, it looks like a police officer was injured while physically engaging with rioters attacking the police.  Sicknick’s brother says he collapsed in the Capitol and was resuscitated using CPR.   Investigators are reportedly exploring whether Sicknick became ill after coming in contact with a chemical irritant such as pepper spray or bear spray.  Another theory is that Sicknick had a pre-existing condition that was exacerbated by engaging with rioters.

It's harder these days, with so many sources, to keep on top of who's credible and who's not.

But it's not *that* hard.

QAnon97 is not unusual in his craziness. The world is full of crazy people. Citing fringe sources has always been a sign of wingnuttery.

Yes, I work within the fact-based media infrastructure. More importantly, it's the fact-checked infrastructure. Sometimes, especially in the rush to publish first, people make errors of phrasing, details and/or attribution.

I knew that Brian Sicknick didn't die on the 6th. The first report I heard said he'd returned to the precinct and began feeling unwell after his return. To the extent that his minutiae were misreported, I'm not concerned. We have video evidence of rioters beating cops. We know that Brian Sicknick is dead.

I am not picking on you, just making you aware of the process I use make a post about something I know little about since I seem to cause you to post big breakdowns of situations. And I really do appreciate the content because it frames a lot of discussions here.

Say I’m perusing this site and someone (97 in this case) posts about something I’m not really familiar with. If I’m interested, I click the link, read the story, read a bunch of other angles from other sources, form a general opinion, and then make a comment (glib, typically) of my own. If I’m not interested I probably won’t do any of those things.

The point is once I’ve commented I’ve already done enough research to make this style of follow up redundant. Although my short comments may seem to come from a lack of knowledge, that’s generally not the case. They’ve been researched and usually even pondered, if only briefly.

If somehow I could get you to make these types of posts BEFORE I go to all the trouble of researching something myself, we’d be set. 😂

Also I hope MN isn’t dead.

The NYT shouldn’t be publishing dubious stories, although it sounds like their sources were pretty convincing at the time.

Still, he wasn’t that old and died a day after the riot. It’s like 99% likely his death was a result of something that happened during the riot.
