This reminds me that my phone slid out of my shorts pocket in the uber after the Illini game and had to track it to a sketchy duplex in Urbana the next morning. I could see it on the seat of the car but it was locked and no one answered either door at the duplex. The trunk was held closed with a bungee cord and I was about to try and get in that way and get it (god only knows what was in that trunk) but then some odd hippie type showed up with a half gallon of oat milk in his hand and told me he was staying with a friend in the one side and he wasn’t an Uber driver. That meant it had to be the other side, so I walked to the back door and pounded on it pretty good. Dude answers and I’d clearly woke him up, he looked like he went on an all night bender after he dropped us off at the hotel. I told him I’m so sorry to bother you but my phone is in your car. He seemed genuinely confused. Had to remind him we rode with him the night before. He nodded then asked how we found him. I explained the concept of “find my iPhone” to him and he just looked at me like I was a time traveler or something. He finally turned around without saying a word and then came back and said “it should be unlocked now” so I went out to the car and got it and left. Sent him a very generous tip for the trouble.
