What does the research say on how much California has paid in versus received overall recently?

California gets 65-75% back of what we put in.

Does that include Federal disaster relief?

Does that include Federal disaster relief?

let's test your math ability and you can decide

in 2019, Californians paid
472,027,235,000 in federal taxes. That's 472 billion for those who don't know what those comma things mean.

2017 was a pretty bad fire year, that included the Tubbs fire.
The federal government provided at least $366 million in direct aid to communities affected by the Tubbs Fire and other fires that year

Let's say that the fires in Palisades/etc... result in a billion dollars. Seems high, but we'll let it fly.

Let's see if you remember math 101. What percent of 472 billion is one billion.

Meanwhile, it seems some Boar's Head plants in Indiana, Arkansas, and Virginia might view sanitation as wasteful spending?

A CNN analysis found that all 15 of the states that rely most heavily on federal support for public schools in 2022 backed Trump in November, while all but two of the 15 that receive the fewest federal dollars as a percentage of their overall revenue supported Kamala Harris.

States like California and New York haven’t received cuts in funding due to population loss. Still getting paid like they still had all the people that fled to red states. Can come up with a lot of differing numbers on what states pay what and receive what.

Yeah, Pritzker just announced a while back that Illinois’ population increased this past year after declining number in previous ones. Way to fudge numbers. I guess all the illegals we accepted got him the credit he wanted…

The most recent census in the United States was in 2020; so of course states like California and New York have received cuts in funding due to population loss over the last 10-20 years.  However, you shouldn't assume all those blue-staters are migrating to red states.  A good example is Californians moving to Arizona and Nevada, which has helped turn those states purple.

Also, not all federal funding is centered around population-based formulas.  Some grants formulas consider other factors, such as poverty, unemployment, and transportation infrastructure.  Others require a match where states must contribute a certain amount of their own funds.

Why bother responding to a strawman.

Assertion: California and New York pay far more in federal taxes than they get back in return

Rebuttal: Their population has declined, yet their funding has not declined along with it.

This is a strawman. The amount of population, and the rise/decline has nothing to do with the original, valid assessment, that those states are net donors to the federal government, which has been true for decades and is still true.
