How about something like this:
"I thought I was ready for the NBA, but I found out I need to improve my passing skills and jump shot. So I am returning to college to work on my game in hopes of improving my draft stock."
Instead of:
"I already have the skills to play in the NBA, but my college coach made me run the pick and roll all the time, so ..."
Everybody on the planet knew he had no face up game and would not or could not pass the ball out of double teams.
They also knew he could not guard an empty chair in space.
If he had any of those skills that he was not allowed to show at Illinois he could have done so in workouts with teams. He doesn't have them yet, and didn’t develop enough of them since March.
In fact, they apparently do not think he is even close enough or showing the potential to take a flyer on him and give him a select contract or 2 way in G league. I am sure he can play G league at the standard salary. Obviously, overseas is an option and he could make some money.
He will be a beast again at what he does in college. I am not sure it does a lot for his NBA status.
He will make some money via NIL. Who knows how much.
