When was the last time Hutch played? I thought he was laid up all year and had another back surgery in California?

I’m guessing they think they can turn Payne into defensive specialist who can guard a bunch of positions and not have to switch. Maybe a guy who can gets lobs in transition. I don’t see much else in him.

I don’t think it makes sense for Kofi to come back if his primary goal is a paycheck right now, but maybe this group sees what they did without Ayo when he was out and wants to come back for another run? Kofi’s pro options are limited and there’s no guarantee a team invests in him and gives him an opportunity to work on aspects of his game that may be physically impossible for him.

I do agree with Rob though the only times I’ve seen him shoot midrange he made them and he shot FTs pretty well down the stretch the last two seasons. Although he had games where he looked like it was the first time he ever played. I think his routine of moving his right foot over a few inches right before he sets to shoot is kind of odd.

I think Hutcherson is healthy now. I guess we will see and hear more this summer.
Who knows. He looks like he has some tools and athleticism.
We don't have anybody that great at the 4 right now, so he has an opportunity.
I agree that Payne will be hopefully be a mobile D guy mostly.
I think an NBA team could sign Kofi and have him work in G league. He actually looked like he might be able to learn to shoot face up, and pass a little last year. They turned him into Wreck it Ralph this year.

They did this when they went after Grandison too, but they liked Payne because he has some crazy efficient analytics...in this case the pick n roll analytics. They also wanted someone who can play both the 4 and the 5 to cover their ass on Kofi

I was impressed by his D, court awareness, and not leaving his feet.  He's a potential starter imho.

I thought he [Hutch] was laid up all year and had another back surgery in California?

I don't think he had any surgery for the 2 unrelated back  injuries. Just physical therapy.

Missed sophomore season due to two herniated discs in back from auto accident (not his fault).

Recovered from that, was undercut in practice junior season. Broken wrist and jaw.

Played 2 years of D-3 ball. Grew 4 or  5 inches.

Transferred to UI. Sat out 2020 season.

Missed 2021 season recovering from a spinal stress fracture.

A 6'5 lefty who can shoot deep and maybe rebound pretty well. Averaged 35pts 10rbs 5a & 4st last yr. Not bad I guess.
