The article cites actual scientists discussing alternate theories because the science isn’t settled. It’s multi layered and some of the things we’ve done to do good have caused problems elsewhere. It’s a good cautionary tale.

Also, who pays scientists? Are they just out there doing the work pro bono for the good of man?

It's 97% settled. Which means it's basically settled. If 97% of scientists agree, I'll roll with that. As opposed to 97% of say, Trumpers.
"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

You'd think he was getting paid.

Yes, scientists get paid. Just like every other job. You think people peddling the shit Custard is trying to sell aren’t profiting from trying to misinform and confuse people?

You think Exxon and BP aren’t paying people to misinform the public? You’re delusional. You think scientists are getting rich to misinform about climate change? That’s also pretty delusional. Are they getting paid off by the massive windmill industry?

I talked about this before. Back in the 1970s; there were two competing stories of human induced climate change -- global cooling driven by atmospheric stuff called aerosols and global warming driven by CO2.

The aerosols are not the stuff they used to put in spray cans that were destroying the Ozone layer.

These are particulates in the air made of pollutants from burning high sulfur coal, leaded gas, etc. Also dust and ash from volcanoes and droughts and so on  ...

Besides global cooling, atmospheric aerosols caused acid rain, smog,  burning rivers, and fish kill from water pollution and more.

Laws like Nixon's Clean Air and Water Acts cleaned up much of that mess.

This is not a return to the mean. It just means that aerosol driven cooling is no longer offsetting carbon dioxide driven global warming.

Climate scientists are discussing spraying the atmosphere to create aerosols as a sort of desperation measure to counter global warming.

'... Using climate models, we estimate that aerosols have masked about 50 percent of the warming that would otherwise have been caused by greenhouse gases trapping heat near the surface of the Earth..."

That human activity is greatly accelerating destructive climate change.
