My vote should be worth what it is. If I decide to vote for a certain candidate, in this system, if I don't vote for the democrat it doesn't matter. It's decided. I might as well not even go to the polling place.

I mean, tell me how my vote for president matters as a resident of Tazewell County, IL.

If I vote democrat, doesn't matter. If I vote republican, doesn't matter. The votes from this state are going to the democrat.  My vote absolutely does not matter where I live.

I can see both sides. On one hand it makes sense, but on the other, downstate IL and Chicago are two VERY different living “styles” and have two very different views and how life is lived.

I suppose you could move.  I've seen lib friends return to the Chicago area  because they didn't like the local politics in Central IL.  I've also seen conservative friends living in the far west suburbs of Chicago move to Indiana because they didn't like the statewide politics.

If you want your vote to count at the national level, you are probably looking at six to seven battleground states.

I don't want to move. I like where I live. I'm just saying that under the current system my vote for president is meaningless. That's all.

Changing the electoral college to a little bit more closely correlate to how you did in that state makes sense to me. Example. No one who loses a state 50.5% to 49.5% should lose all of that states delegates. But maybe the winner gets 70% or something like that. If a Republican wins Kansas by 30% maybe he gets 85% of the delegates.  Then you still keep some of what the electoral college was meant to do, and you also serve the collective better. What those exact percentages are, I don’t know. Some group of math geniuses could figure that out.

I just wish there was a way to use the popular vote, or real vote, solely. I see the difficulties. But that would make each and every person's vote count.

Sounds simplistic I suppose, and I'm not a political expert, but that's my desire.
