I have a (old) friend of mine I’ve known since 2nd grade. He’s a career military guy (he’s actually the reason I joined the Marines). He’s a super right-winger and we trade barbs via messenger. I just sent him a picture of Brittney Griner and her wife (reunited) to try and trigger him. He was once one of my two best friends. Embarrassing how right-wing so many of the people I grew up with are.

He had previously sent me a picture of Marine Paul Whelan and said (you don’t want to know what I think about this) regarding Griner being released and Whelan not.

Did you guys know Whelan was discharged for bad conduct? Not that we shouldn’t be trying to bring him home, but if he were the right-wings bad guy in this scenario it would certainly be brought up (see: McCain, John).

As far as the other guy, he was once the closest of friends. I’ve seen him probably 2-3x in 20 years.

As I said, I’m sure he started it. I never would have gone first on a highly decorated war veteran. Despite my disdain for America’s love of war, I still have great respect for America’s veterans. He was also the first to message me on the Brittney Griner release.

Despite not seeing him for 10 years (and clearly not seeing eye to eye on matters i deem important), I took my kid all the way to Aurora for the Memorial Day Parade a few years ago in which they named a day after him and he was honored as Grand Marshall. So yeah, I’m a terrible friend.
