I don't think obesity is caused by eating a diet rich in whole grains, poultry, legumes, leafy green vegetables, natural cheese, fresh fruits, olive oil, etc.

More likely it has to do with a diet rich in carry out pizza, fast food hamburgers, American cheese, lunch meat, white bread, French fries, pre-prepared canned or boxed foods,  sugary carbonated beverages, donuts etc, along with a relatively sedentary lifestyle.

But I have been told here for years that the inflation was transitory and due to Covid related supply chain issues! Now you’re telling me it’s basically permanent and nothing can be done?

What needs to happen is a complete tear down and reconstruction of our entire food system, but we all know that won’t happen any time soon.

What I'm telling you is that Trump's solution is not a solution.

Increasing taxes on the wealthy, lowering them on the not wealthy, providing more tax incentives to small businesses, improving our educational system and lowering the cost of higher education, so people can start more businesses in order to build businesses to fix the supply hole, resurrecting businesses that got cratered during Trump's last year in office.

And yes, reduction in subsidies for growing a bunch of corn and turning it into ethanol. Barely a prayer of Biden doing that, but hell if Trump would ever cross Big Ag.

Murph is all over the place and it is not yet 1/20. Add in Hamas is agreeing to release hostages because Trump warned them what would happen if they didn't and it is bad times for The Progressives.

Hamas basically used the playbook from their overlords the Ayatollahs. Take hostages, make it a shit show, get the preferred US President elected, then you can let the hostages go.

I don't know for sure, but I am guessing droughts in California aren't beneficial to domestic fruit and vegetable supplies. Imposing tariffs on imported produce (or meat) doesn't seem like the best way to improve supply chains.

While California is the largest food producing state in the nation, we are not in drought. There is a localized very poor winter in the Los Angeles area, but state reservoirs are full and the Sierra snowpack is above average. The last two winters were monsters.

LA is not even in the same water catchment as the Central Valley for the most part, they get a huge chunk of their water from the Colorado, the Central Valley farms mostly rely on the Sierras.

This is still a bit simplistic, because we grow so much food in the Central Valley that even with all that water, ground water is still used (and being depleted). All the farmers this past summer had full allotments.

Ironically, some of last year's crops were impacted by *too much water* - Tulare Lake, which is usually dry, reappeared during the monster 22-23 winter, and land in the former lake bed that has been farmed for decades was unavailable.

Except aren't you saying it has not evolved with the times since it is the same food pyramid?

It has evolved. It’s still sorely lacking as it doesn’t really delineate between whole grains and highly processed starches, healthy vs unhealthy fats, etc but at least they’re recommending about as many servings of healthy protein and vegetables fruits and vegetables as they are grains and cereals now.

Not that long ago butter and eggs were bad for you and margarine was the healthy alternative. Now they’re good for us again and vegetable oils are poison. The science of dietary cholesterol has largely been a contradictory mess, as has treatment for high cholesterol.

The vendetta against animal proteins for being unhealthy has been ludicrous. I can understand moral aversion, but people need to realize that when conducting studies on health considerations of consuming meat, a grease soaked Popeye’s breaded chicken breast on a 400 calorie processed starch bomb bun counts the same in most cases as a lean serving of chicken breast sautéed in good EVOO. Same goes for a Big Mac vs a lean grass fed beef steak. The bun, breading, seed oils, etc are likely much worse for you than the little bit of actual meat in those sandwiches!

It’s literally insane to think for over two decades our government guidelines suggested that Bread and Captain Crunch should be the base of the pyramid, (6-11 servings) while things like fish, olive oil, lean meats, cottage cheese, milk etc were the same or less (6-10 servings) COMBINED.

Remember when fat was our mortal enemy in the 90s and the food companies just took fat out of everything and replaced it with sugar to make it palatable? I member.

Butter and eggs either are good for us, or bad for us. Whether or not the current scientific knowledge (or the fake science provided by big food corporations) divines the truth, doesn't change the actual facts.

Conspiracy theory!

😂 isn’t that the EXACT same argument people are making with “science” and big pharma?! Yet you think those people are whack jobs and crazy. It’s as if money plays a HUGE part in what is an actual fact…

Cottage cheese is amazing. Has to be the red Prairie Farms one though with a little Montreal Steak seasoning on it. Or this chili seasoning I got in Germany. Also good on top of a fresh slice of tomato from the garden. And good for you!

We've known McDonald's food is basically poison for decades. Yet they persist, because money.

Vioxx was a very popular highly used, and profitable anti-inflammatory, they lied because money. But once exposed, it was taken off the market and they got sued. McDonald's will never be sued other than for hot coffee in your lap.

Alone, with nothing else, is fine too.
But I'll give the seasoning idea a shot.

I remember when big cereal used Tony the Tiger and other cartoon characters with jingles to market sugar for breakfast to children.

*Sugar Frosted Flakes, they're grrrrreat!
*Sugar Pops are tops!
*Snap, Crackle, pop ... !
*Gimme a Smack ... !
*Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids.
*Lucky Charms, they're magically delicious!

Cottage Cheese is excellent with baked beans.

Also, with canned peaches or pineapple.
