Texas probably kicking themselves for locking up Beard

Why would any P5 school bring in a guy with active federal investigation resulting in a felony, and NCAA indicated violations and sanctions.

My guess is Miller sits out a few plays and comes back later to start the trek back to a P5 gig like the slimy cockroach he is.
Sort of a Calipari thing.

In addition to what they did with Self, look at Sampson. Pearl. Calipari. Will Wade. Pitino. And the list goes on and on and on.

This is where minorities and advocates of minority candidates should be furious. Giving these known and proven cheaters another gig over well-qualified candidates is appalling.

This is the case in all fields in America. I see administrators in my field get recycled who have banged their staff, had multiple affairs, alcohol/drug issues, lost agencies lots of money, were sanctioned for major contract violations, or simply ran a place into the ground, etc.,  land new gigs making serious money over and over.

Failures or even crooks get repackaged and recycled and some new employer thinks they are getting experienced guy who was an innocent victim in a misunderstanding, or a rehabbed better version of someone who did something in the past that was mildly successful.
Some guys make a whole career out of marketing some minor success they had in the past and it somehow erases their chronic failures and even criminal behavior.
We just had 4 years of it.

It's America.

Hard to see a program replacing their coach with the former coach’s brother. Would be hilarious.

Alot of buzz of Lloyd from Gonzaga possibly being hired there? If that happens Zags may go backwards...he is the key to ALL of the overseas recruiting, and AZ has alot of players from other countries being recruited and interested.

Ask Tempo. He thinks Miller fails at a higher level than Underwood has achieved.

So anyway; as I said, it’s unquestionably true. Miller goes to 4 or 5 Elite 8s (and like 3 more S16s) and is viewed by some as a “failure.”

Underwood has won 2 NCAA games at 3 programs and somehow leapfrogs Miller’s success (or in this case, even “failures”). Explain to me how that makes sense.

National coach of the year. Final Four. Elite Eight.

Where has Weber ever enjoyed sustained success out of SIU? His ceiling is as a very good 2nd tier Midmajor coach. That, is not/was not Sean Miller’s ceiling. Weber never enjoyed a 6 year period like Miller had from ‘11-‘18. Miller is a bonafide top dozen or so coach in NCAA high major basketball (albeit with baggage). Weber is no such thing, no matter how many awards he won off the back of Bill Self.

When did Weber ever assemble the base of a 1 seed caliber team? His greatest accomplishment with his own squad was lucking into a round of 8 appearance where he got beat handily by a lesser regarded Loyola team than the one that beat Illinois this year.

I’d much rather have the 2021 Illinois season and tourney and the 2018 KSU season and tourney but I could see why some would prefer the tourney run.

The number 1 seed and a B1G Tourney championship in a COVID season did not appear to mean much.

Not trying to pump up Weber, because he fucking sucked Imbecile Judy's dildo dick. But Underachiever so far can suck on Jobu's dick given he lost to fucking Loyola and looked like he had never coached a game in his life in so doing.

Well we kind of were sucking much of year until last stretch. Were out of Top 20 IIRC before we started playing defense and Ayo discovered how to dribble with his left hand for a month at least.
The jury is out on Hulka. 8 years- 5 tourney teams- only 3 wins.
Weber clearly has better career and no question is a better defensive coach.
Also no question he is a whiny fcking dork.
I prefer Hulka in charge, but he needs to produce.

Hulka is pretty average coach overall.
We recruited well in last three years.
Terrible in game adjustments guy.
If next year's team finishes in Top 25 and makes S16, that would be something that would be noteworthy.

I'm not so sure the rules have changed much tho, just the process. Apparently, with NIL the NCAA will rely on the school to police itself regarding a player using his NIL. A player with a good 'media/public relations' (lol) person or staff won't have to rely on relatives or representatives to deal with Joey Bagodonuts.
From today's fishwrap....
"NCAA moves to let schools police athletes’ compensation
An NCAA vote on Monday handed member schools the responsibility of policing third-party payments to college athletes."

So,theoretically a shill company could make a deal with Curbelo to put his name on some hot sauce they claim they are going to make.
They never make it or make like 10 bottles of it.
They pay Curbelo $100k.
It's all funded by a booster investor.

The slime schemes  will find a way to skirt the rules. No different than now when a booster donates $100k to an AAU club who hires the mom or uncle to do nothing  and pass the money through.

Remember when Lance Thomas bought $100k of stuff at jewelry store while at Duke?
The money Miller paid Ayton wasn't his.

So, given that Tempo has Sean Miller’s cock deep in his throat, is it really worth it?

College basketball is a shithole. If you don’t know that, you’re not paying attention.

Sean Miller gained access to some great players. He played beyond the gray area. He won a lot of games by doing this.

Does anyone know if he has a great basketball mind? I mean, he probably needs to know how to coach 5 star talent to play well together, but is that really challenging? Maybe.

Did anyone ever watch an Arizona game and think, man, these guys really know how to play basketball?

Maybe the answer is yes. But I’ve never seen it.

As far as his accomplishments compared to Brad. Sure. Hard to argue against it. Brad hasn’t done much yet, and he has a ways to go, and I have my doubts that he can do it here. But let’s not pretend that Sean Miller, or really any of these other crooked fuckers, are the end all be all. No matter what ESPN wants you to think.

Because see, they’re all scumbags. They’re used car salesmen, making way too much money and backed by dipshit networks like ESPN and people like Tempo that worship them.

It’s a shithole, fellas.  These fucking coaches are all scum. Every single one of them. They dress like investment bankers on the sideline and make themselves the faces of their programs by cheating their asses off and taking huge salaries for taking whomever the shoe companies say they can take.

Fuck college basketball.
I take it you don't have much faith in what Mark Emmett says.
"This is an important moment for college sports and particularly for our athletes," Emmert said. "We must act to ensure that fair opportunities, consistent with our values, are provided to all student-athletes."
And from the AP to protect the level playing field that exists for all member institutions ....
"The NCAA does want to place some limitations around NIL rights and to be able to monitor athletes' deals to prevent payments from being used as recruiting inducements."
https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/31661417/ncaa-president-mark-emmert-tells-schools-act-nil-will

So there you have it. Everything is under control.

Elderly sports fans like myself tend to have fond memories of how basketball was played way back in the day. There were notable exceptions, but today's players are bigger, faster, and generally way more skilled for size.

Rules have changed the game too. One notable difference is if you watch old film, dribbling often looks odd and the off hand is not used as much. This is partly because some guys could not dribble with their off hand, but largely because of the old palming rule.

Maravich played in the 60s.
That was nearly 55 years ago. They have been using both hands for decades.
Players actually are worse ballhandlers in modern game.  Ayo, Trent, and Miller couldn't beat their man off the dribble because of weakass handles.
Loyola abused us because of it.
It's the modern player who looks like shit.

And people back in the day were impressed with his ball handling skills. Oscar Robertson was 6-5. People were amazed that a big man could dribble like that.

The complaint I am seeing is today's NBA is all one on one offence, no team work, no defense. Been hearing that exact same complaint for 58 years.

Game has changed in obvious and subtle ways. The way palming and traveling are seldom if ever called are subtle changes. Three point shot was an obvious change.

Some things never change. Old folks remember the goodle days. Some college ball fans think the NBA game sucks.

And the palming, traveling bullshit is a non issue made up by white guys being embarrassed by the AI's of the world.
If you can't use the three in college or NBA you are fcking stupid. You can't win wthout
it.
We only made 7 a game last year. Thankfully we are finally getting some legit shooters.

I don't watch any sports anymore except Illinois basketball, but that is besides the point. The point I made is the same sort of people have been making the same sort of complaints about the NBA since I started paying attention many moons ago. Back then I knew I would get old someday. I just expected it to take a lot longer.

I am not saying it is for better or worse, but ir seems like traveling and palming seldom if ever get called anymore. Guys still catch the ball and take steps before dribbling.  They still take extra steps on layups. They still shuffle their feet on post moves.  It just doesn't seem to get called. I can't exactly recall the last time I saw traveling called.  Scott Meents? Maybe because I don't watch as much?

At one time, touching the ball on the side while dribbling was palming. Now it's a crossover dribble. The only time I recall seeing palming called in the last 20 years was on McCamey a couple times. I think it fucked with his head.

I remember when the idiotic NCAA banned dunking. iirc, high schools banned it too. The rationale was it was impossible to legally block a dunk.

I knew some old farts who hated the three point shot when it was new. They thought it would take away the midrange game.

No, dunking was made illegal because it was "not a skillful shot." Had nothing to do with being able to block it.

This is how Kareem developed his sky hook.  Because he was not allowed to dunk the ball.

Come on, Nichi.  Just because you're 150 years old doesn't mean you can bullshit people.

The Pleiadeans broke the space-time continuum and replaced it with a matrix. They got some of the details wrong.

You can Google. Congratulations.  Apparently the NCAA claimed it was because it was not a skillful shot and caused injuries. That was the excuse. No one could guard  Alcindor was maybe the real reason. Perhaps race was involved.

Our coaches told us it was because it was impossible to block a dunk attempt without either fouling or goal tending. Also, dunking amounted to offensive goal tending. We thought it was stupid.

"Scottie Pippen, who was on the court when Iverson crossed up Jordan, noted in his postgame comments that league officials 'do allow [Iverson] to pick the ball up and carry it pretty high.'”

https://slate.com/culture/2019/04/nba-eurostep-travel-allen-iverson-crossover.html

"Yeah, look the bob Cousy highlights and you will see the way people dribble in that time."

"Your hand had to remain completely on top of the ball. It made crossovers and other dribble moves extremely difficult to do without being done illegally and being called a carry. It’s part of the reason why super old school players really only dribble with their dominant hand and players up until the 90’s don’t dribble as flashy as current day players.

... Most of the moves modern dribblers like Harden and Kyrie do would be called carries from the 40’s-90’s."

https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/gahf0y/nba_rules_changes_on_dribble/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Used to be some old Illini video on youtube. The way lead guards Bill Small, Tal Brody, Jim.Dawson et al mostly dribbled with their right hand and the ball out in front looked odd, but was normal then.

Look at old video of Jerry West. He keeps his hand on top of the ball and dribbles down. He usually managed to switch to his left hand without carrying / palming.

Cool. Glad you’re super old. You know, you may need to start watching that blood pressure. Or do you have the diabetes? Because your behavior in the Kofi thread suggests some kind of altered level of consciousness.

Thanks for the diagnosis. It is worth what I paid for it. Have a rice day.

More stupid revisionist history from Illinipeachbasket.
Players have been pushing the rules on dribbling for decades and amazingly using their left hand and using modern crossovers since the 60s.

Ever see this guy dumbass?
Left hand. On side of ball. We all did it.
I actually played in late 60s and early 70s.

So Lkdog is Larue?

Nice reference to the Pearl. Some  cite his backcourt mate with having an early version of the crossover. Others point to
Isiah Thomas or Chris Jackson aka Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. Most common is Tim Hardaway Sr.

Thing is, when those guys played;  carrying, double dribble, and traveling were still routinely called. I don't think there was an abrupt change. More like a gradual transition starting with stars getting protection.

Still, Scottie Pippen and Steve Kerr point to Iverson, but they are probably just dumbasses

Kerr on Iverson:

"The crossover, in my mind, changed the way players played. Before Iverson, his move was a carry, and guys had to keep their hand on top of the ball. So he was groundbreaking with that move because it was a hesitation into the crossover that nobody had really done before.

"Tim Hardaway's crossover was nasty, but it was perfectly legal. The way he did it, there wasn't that hesitation. So what Iverson did, nobody had ever seen it before, and it was a borderline carry. And to me, what happened, he was popular and exciting to watch. I think the league sort of realized we don't want to call a carry. I think the league literally looked at it and said, 'What do we do with this?'

Knows quite a bit about basketball; almost as must as he thinks he does.
Arrogant / inflated opinion of self.
Played organized ball around the same time as Rick Schmidt.
Piss poor reading comprehension skills.
No sense of humor.
Has trouble disagreeing without flinging insults.

Maybe L stands for Larue?

That was  Lkdog who said he played late 60's and early 70's.

Larue had said Rick Schmidt was the best player he competed against in high school. Schmidt was class of 1971.

I expect this year to look a lot like last year, except we’ll have an exciting young QB to be hopeful about. Listening to The Score right now. They are broadcasting a Q&A with Pace/Nagy. I find these guys almost impossible to listen to.

Have not listened to the Score since before Dan McNeil got fired. Completely unlistenable and Cub cum suckers to boot.
