In 1999, Kubrick’s final film was released about wealthy elites gathering at English mansions for masked rituals involving sexual exploitation. Women are exploited for the events. Anyone who investigates faces threats or death. A powerful man explains to the protagonist exactly how the system protects itself, insisting nothing improper occurred. Everyone walks away unscathed except the women who were used.
Twenty years later, I found documents showing that the same things were happening in the real world, organized by Jeffrey Epstein, protected by the same kinds of institutions Kubrick depicted.
Here is what I did not expect to find when I started looking into the film: The production filmed those scenes inside properties owned by families directly connected to the Epstein network.
The Filming Locations
According to production records and location databases, three separate English estates were used for the Somerton ritual sequences. The shoot holds the Guinness World Record for longest constant film shoot, running over 15 months.
Mentmore Towers served as the exterior of “Somerton,” the mansion where the masked ritual takes place. This estate was built in the 1850s for Baron Mayer de Rothschild and remained in Rothschild family hands until the 1970s.
Elveden Hall was used for the interior shots of the ritual scenes. This estate has been owned by the Guinness family since 1894. Clare Hazell-Iveagh, Countess of Iveagh, married into the family in 2001. According to The Daily Mail, flight logs show she traveled on Jeffrey Epstein’s aircraft approximately 32 times between 1998 and 2000, which is the exact period when Kubrick was filming and the movie was released. According to podcast interviews and secondary reporting, Maria Farmer has stated Hazell-Iveagh served as her “minder” at Les Wexner’s Ohio estate. A House Oversight Committee document notes Hazell-Iveagh served as President of the West Sussex Branch of the NSPCC during the years these events allegedly took place. She has denied wrongdoing and the NCA said it had no derogatory information and was not investigating her at the time.
Luton Hoo Estate was used for the interior of Victor Ziegler’s Manhattan mansion, where the opening party scenes take place. This estate was owned by the Wernher family. Historical records indicate Sir Harold Wernher married Lady Zia, a member of Russian aristocracy, and the estate maintained connections to British high society.
Highclere Castle, which most people now know as the location for Downton Abbey, was also used for filming according to Wikipedia and multiple film location databases. The estate is owned by the Earls of Carnarvon. In 1895, the 5th Earl married Almina Wombwell, the illegitimate daughter of banker Alfred de Rothschild. Rothschild provided a marriage settlement equivalent to over £67 million in today's currency and paid off the Earl's debts. This Rothschild fortune funded Howard Carter's discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922.
The filming locations were dominated by properties connected to the Rothschild family or to Clare Hazell-Iveagh, who would later be documented in Epstein’s flight logs and named in investigative reporting about the network.
Lynn Forester de Rothschild
If you have been following my work, you know I have been documenting the connections between Lynn Forester de Rothschild and the Epstein network. She married Sir Evelyn de Rothschild in November 2000, one year after Eyes Wide Shut was released. According to her Wikipedia entry and multiple profiles, Henry Kissinger introduced them at the 1998 Bilderberg Conference in Scotland. The Clintons invited them to spend their honeymoon at the White House.
Her documented connections to Epstein’s infrastructure include:
Transportation: Her father J. Kenneth Forester founded aviation operations at Teterboro Airport in 1946. Her brother ran Million Air there. Million Air is listed in Epstein’s black book.
Housing: According to multiple reports, in 1991, immediately after Robert Maxwell’s death, she provided Ghislaine Maxwell a Manhattan apartment. According to Business Insider’s review of tax records, in October 2000 she sold a Manhattan townhouse to a shell company with the same address as Epstein’s business office for approximately $8.5 million below its assessed market value of over $13.4 million. Business Insider noted they could not independently confirm the seller was the same Lynn Forester who appeared in Epstein’s flight logs. Maxwell moved into the property.
Banking: According to Der Spiegel, she joined Deutsche Bank’s advisory board in July 2013. Consent orders show Deutsche Bank took on Epstein as a client approximately one month later despite his registered sex offender status.
Introductions: Alan Dershowitz has publicly stated she introduced him to Epstein, calling him “an interesting autodidact.” According to Ghislaine Maxwell’s proffer testimony released in 2025, Lynn Forester de Rothschild introduced Prince Andrew to Epstein.
The Character Kubrick Invented
Victor Ziegler does not exist in Arthur Schnitzler’s 1926 novella “Dream Story,” which was the source material for the film. Kubrick created this character specifically. He invented a wealthy, connected figure who simultaneously represents the elevated world Bill aspires to and the link between Bill’s normal life and the secret society organizing the masked ritual.
Kubrick first cast Harvey Keitel in this role. Keitel left the production after reportedly completing many takes of a single scene. He later said Kubrick “did some things I objected to.” Kubrick replaced him with Sydney Pollack, who was himself a director, someone who understood how systems work and how to make them appear rational while obscuring their operations.
In the film’s most revealing scene, Ziegler tells Bill exactly how the system works. The woman who died at the ritual? According to Ziegler, she was just “a hooker” who overdosed. Nothing to see here. If Bill wants to know who the people at the ritual were, Ziegler tells him that if he revealed their names, “I don’t think you’d sleep so well.”
Ziegler explains the rules: You can observe, you can even benefit, but if you investigate, there will be consequences. Life goes on for everyone who matters. The women who were used are disposable.
This is exactly how the Epstein network operated for decades.
What Film Critics Have Said
Rich Cohen, writing for The Paris Review in 2020, made the connection explicit: “Eyes Wide Shut is not fiction. It’s documentary. It was an exposé written in code. It revealed a dynamic that had long played out in sectors of elite society but was not glimpsed until our own age, an age of scandal, the most telling being the scandal of Jeffrey Epstein.”
Tim Kreider wrote in what became an influential analysis: “The real pornography in this film is in its lingering depiction of the shameless, naked wealth of millennial Manhattan, and of its obscene effect on society and the human soul.”
The title itself is described as a phrase used among secret societies meaning “my eyes are shut to your misdeeds, brother.” The anonymity is required of participants, otherwise the elite would be exposed.
The Ending
The film’s final scene takes place in a toy store during Christmas shopping. Bill and Alice are reconciling after everything that has happened. Their daughter Helena wanders off.
If you watch closely, you will see Helena walk away with two older men in suits. She leaves the frame with them. Neither parent notices. The camera lingers on this moment. Then the scene continues as if nothing happened.
This is not accidental. Kubrick was meticulous. The extended production schedule was famous for endless takes and precise framing. If Helena walks off with two strange men in the final scene, Kubrick meant for her to walk off with two strange men.
Kubrick understood that these operations are generational. Children become the currency. Families become implicated and complicit. The price of belonging is silence about what you have seen.
Kubrick’s Death
Stanley Kubrick died on March 7, 1999. He had shown the final cut of Eyes Wide Shut to Warner Bros. executives days earlier.
He was 70 years old. The official cause was a heart attack in his sleep. His wife Christiane found him in bed.
The film was released on July 16, 1999. Nicole Kidman later recalled: “But the weekend it came out, July 16, 1999, was the death of JFK Jr., his wife and her sister. A black, black weekend. And for Stanley to have died before the film opened... Well, it all felt so dark and strange.”
Warner Bros. reportedly made cuts to the film before its release. Kubrick was not alive to participate in any post-production decisions. Some reports indicate the studio removed footage, though the precise amount remains disputed.
Whether Kubrick had specific knowledge or was working from a profound understanding of how power operates, the film now functions as a documentary. I personally believe someone who put that much effort into details that the selection of these locations were not accidents. The message was not subtle to those paying attention.
He showed us exactly how it works and then he died. Then twenty years later, we learned it was real.
I am not saying Kubrick knew specifically about Epstein’s operation. He may have simply understood the pattern well enough to depict it accurately.
But here is what I keep thinking about: A legendary filmmaker, known for encoding messages in his work, spent thirty years preparing a film about elite sexual exploitation, filmed it at properties connected to the same families whose members would later be documented providing infrastructure for a real trafficking operation or named in investigative reports about one, and died immediately after completing it.
That film depicted practices that would not become public knowledge for another twenty years.
He called it Eyes Wide Shut. Our eyes are wide open and functionally closed. We see it but we pretend not to.

So the current issue here is - apparently the guy who introduced Trump to Melania is in a custody battle with his ex-girlfriend, who is a Brazilian model and not a US Citizen. She gets arrested in Miami on fraud charges, working in some plastic surgery chop shop.
The guy (Zampoli) who introduced the Trumps has some sort of job in the Administration, so he has a way to get a hoid of ICE, and calls them up to deport the girlfriend, which they do.
