The last time the Illini hoops/fb were this exciting was just prior to the "Slush Fund" fiasco in the 60's.  That's all legal now!

The early 80s did belong to the Illini.

This post is spot on…

I resolved to be more spot on in 2025. It is a high bar since I was AOTC for 2024 (unless I wasn't).

The early 80s did belong to the Illini.
That was used as a slogan for football.
I didn't make it to the 82 Liberty Bowl vs Bama. I did go to our Rose Bowl game in 84.
We didn't win a bowl game in the 80's. We didn't followup a bowl win with destroying a top 10 team on their floor a couple of days later either. 😁

Yeah, but we won the 1964 Rose Bowl with Dick Butkus and Jim Grabowski.

Basketball team were 1962/63 Big Ten Champs. The 1964/65 team upset UCLA 110-83 (I was there).  The 1966/67 team was loaded with talent, hadn't quite put it together.

Pete Elliot was gonna be our AD. Met him Great Guy. Knew Gene Vance. He was a great guy too, but was part of a misguided hire alumni policy.

Make no mistake gontlemen, this is a golden era of Illini athletics. Soak it in and enjoy it while it lasts.

The new Golden Age is giving up 30-0 runs in Elite Eight games and losing at home to Minnesota and not being competitive at Oregon, apparently

No lies detected.
