What part is exaggerated? “Likely to get you murdered?” That I’d say is exaggerated, but it ‘could’ get you murdered, and it would almost certainly get you bullied and shunned by society as a whole. Good chance you’d be disowned by your own family.

If you ignore the entire history of this country until like 1970 you could maybe make the case you weren’t pretty likely to be murdered for going out and stating your pride as a gay man or a trans person.

There’s a regular in this board who often fantasizes about brutalizing and murdering trans people in 2023 and nobody but me and Tempo even call it out.

As a thought exercise, who were the most prominent black civil rights activists and what happened to them?  How about gay activists?
