Blame the contracts. Specifically for quarterbacks. It’s idiotic that the most precious thing an NFL franchise can have is a top QB on a rookie deal. It handcuffs everything else. All pro sports are like this. The Blackhawks went into the tank after they paid their star players. The Cubs and Sox both had to tank to rebuild. It is what it is.

You actually see less (purposeful) tanking in the NFL than other sports.

Yeah it is what it is, which has turned me off to the NBA and NFL in general. Maybe I’m the only one that can’t get excited about sports where teams are losing on purpose. Seems like there could be a better way.

And I've seen plenty of bad Illini football. The punter was the MVP one year.

When you’re way underwater on money and draft capital, keep digging! Ryan Pace would! Don’t be smart and absorb your lumps for one year! Put together the best team you can so you can draft 13th every year!
