He made his MLB debut in 2018.

Tommy John surgery took speed off his fastball and he does not appear to know how to pitch (versus being a thrower). Add in his obvious lack of mental toughness (issues with his wife and taking off the COVID year) and this is what you get....

He was in the minors throwing 100 plus. Even got up to 110. He was a thrower. Not a pitcher. There is a difference, not that the metrics guys, who think Aaron Bummer is good, realize it. Kopech now needs to be a pitcher and he does not know how as he never had to be one before.

My point is if he was going to be any good (consistently) he’d have probably figured it out by now. He’ll probably always be an erratic oft-injured pitcher. Should have traded him a year or two ago.

I understand your point, but I think it is off because he never had to be a pitcher until he had the TJ surgery. Now he has to convert from being a thrower into a pitcher and, shockingly, the Sox staff has been unable to lead him to the promised land. Doesn't mean someone else won't be able to teach him how to change his approach.

If you are waiting for Kopech to be a highly productive 175 inning plus  year guy, it seems you are waiting on Godot. Good luck. I’d put the odds on him ever being that guy at 8-1 minimum.

Tempo, teams seem to only want throwers. Who teaches "pitching" anymore?

I just hope that not many Sox fans are setting themselves up for the nut punch by expecting Kopech to become a reliable high end starting pitcher. My suggestion is for them to go start turning over some rocks. Chances of finding one there are almost as good.

If Kopech ever finds sustainable high end success, my guess it would be as a reliever, possibly closer.
