Nobody gives a shit about that stuff if the team is winning and the games are fun to go to.
Define winning.
7-5 isnt gonna put butts in the seats. I doubt 8-4 does either.
It’s easy to say “if the team is 12-0, there will be sellouts”. But since that’s not the norm, you have to be able to pull people in based on traditions apart from winning. Illlinois has blatantly killed most of their traditions that turned off fans.
Even though it’s pro sports, look at the attendance differences between the Cubs and White Sox. Even when the White Sox are good, they still can’t draw near as much as even bad Cubs team. Fans go to Wrigley for the ambience/tradition. Even if the team sucks, many still go for the experience.
Illinois at this point is basically the White Sox of college sports. It’s a sterile environment, no tradition, in a location many argue is not worth driving too.
