That's a long article that basically misses that Joe Biden, while very well intentioned and a decent guy, has about 5% of the charisma of Barack Obama. And he has 10x the charisma of Hillary Clinton. When you get down to it, that's 90% of the battle when trying to win a top job. Clinton had it. Even GWB had some in his own goofy way. Dukakis, Dole, Mondale, Gore, Kerry, Romney, McCain? Forget about it.
Gore and Biden would never win a nomination without "VP" on their resume. Look at their prior attempts.
That's why the real bench is Newsom and Pritzker. You can bitch all you want about tiny policy issues inside Illinois, every state has them. Watch Pritzker's speech at Northwestern. He's pretty good. But he's not thin and coiffed like Gavin so Newsom is the real deal - and I bitched about him as Mayor... a lot.
Look at DeSantis. He got all this buzz because he was KEEPING FLORIDA FREE during COVID but he was doing it during a time with little real exposure. Now that he has to actually go out and campaign and take interviews instead of pressers where he just yells, his utter lack of charisma is very apparent and he might not make it to the Iowa caucuses.
