When the government prints money and sends it to millions of households and businesses while suppliers are shut down or limited it creates an artificial demand that outstrips the ability of suppliers to meet that demand. The increased demand and reduced supply causes prices to increase. It’s not rocket science.

Did you never learn the basic economic laws of supply and demand? Yeah you can find all kinds of articles from economists refuting this basic economic principle (who’s in their pocket?!?!) but this is fundamental stuff we are talking about.

Corporate profits are generally unrelated to inflation.

The corporations are profiting because a giant influx of cash hit the consumer market at a time when supplies were historically low due to lockdowns. That invariably causes price appreciation. It’s economics 101.

Were supplies historically low due to government imposed lockdowns or because of a pandemic?

One of the problems with your analysis is we don't know how the pandemic would have affected behavior without the mandated lockdowns. The evidence points to disorganized voluntary lockdowns. We likely still have global supply chain disruptions, probably  messier.

The inflation itself was caused by the pandemic related global supply side disruptions. Note the word global. Even without US so called lockdowns, there is China, Europe ...

The US stimulus packages may have added  a little, but the alternative would have been worse, and inflation is global, and US inflation is middle of the pack internationally.

It's also a gross oversimplification of what happened.

American oil companies could have afforded to increase production during during the recovery.

During the pandemic, due to the combination of low demand and high production by OPEC, the cost of domestic [fracking] production largely exceeded the low price. This led to losses and they cut production.

During the recovery, the combination of higher demand and lower production increased prices, making domestic production profitable.

Instead of increasing fracking production, as the historical models would indicate, domestic producers chose to pay dividends, and blamed it on the "regulatory environment."

Politically, Biden gets blamed for crime and inflation because it coincided with his term; just as Pritzker gets credit for balancing the IL budget and improving infrastructure.

In the other thread, I posed the question of what would have happened if there had been no mandatory lockdowns or other things the wing nuts think didn't work like social distancing, mask mandates, vaccines ...

Another question, what would have happened had there been no stimulus packages: QE,  CARES Act, the American Rescue Plan Act. (Specifics included eviction and foreclosure moratoriums, forgivable pay check protection loans, student loan forbearance, and refundable tax credit stimulus checks.)?
