It is arguable that Biden exacerbated inflation with his spending package. We can only speculate how much worse it would have been if Joe Manchin had gone along with the whole spending package. Again, a lot of moronic assholes who like to lose elections people owe Joe Manchin a big apology.

Have any police departments been "defunded"? Those gold brickers are overpaid to begin with, but that hasn't changed. It's pretty funny really to say the SF District Attorney is inept - the cops aren't finding anyone to indict, they are too busy stealing fajitas and strongarming the guy at Happy Donuts for another Bear Claw.

Did somehow Biden's spending package result in people buying 20x more beer and the resultant spending on 20x more toilet paper? I mean, the inflation is real - I went to Ike's Sandwiches yesterday and a Hunter Pence was sixteen bucks. For a sandwich? It's a fucking good sandwich, Ike's has no equal. But it's not like the Ike's Dirty Sauce has artisanal truffles in it, they just have the right ratio of mayo/mustard and a couple of spices.

But are people so flush with cash that Ike's is running out of sandos and is raising their prices? No.

During COVID two things I know of went way up in price - GPU Cards and purebred dogs. Those two items have gone DOWN in price - the shelters are begging people to take Huskies. Discretionary items would also go up in price if the problem was too much money. But the things going up in price are the things with inelastic demand. People aren't buying more milk, there's just less milk. In a functional economy, that would lead to farmers increasing the size of their herds, buying milking machines, and distributors increasing ability to package and ship milk.

But Jerome Powell raised interest rates making it difficult to fix the supply side.

How this argument of Trump vs Biden rages on when the problem is Powell.

Crime has increased everywhere and this coincided with the pandemic. No evidence that reforming policing,  funding crime prevention, and cashless bail increases crime.

There have been positive side effects of inflation. Higher prices = higher sales tax revenues; which benefit State & local governments. Also the aforementioned colas. Also, higher wages will mean increased tax revenue for deficit reduction. Higher oil prices mean profits for oil  companies. Etcetera.

Trumpers out in the sticks somehow believe that tripling the police force and giving them armored cars will stop shoplifting in the cities. Not a chance. Cops are a good tool to keep honest people honest. My wife gets upset that I forget to lock the back door sometimes when I go to the store. I point out that if someone who is willing to go into my house and steal my shit goes through the trouble of getting to the back door, but it's locked, we have roughly 1/4 inch of glass in a pane between them and just reaching in and unlocking the door.

"Don't do the crime if you can't do the time". But what if they CAN do the time. Or don't care?

They just haven't had their car broken into and call the cops and realize that the cops can't do shit. Maybe if we put hi def cameras everywhere to big brother everyone, but the Trumpers are out protesting cameras to catch red light runners. I guess they just want cameras for the crimes they don't do.

The only way to lower crime is reduce the motivation, not via police state.

If we needed higher sales tax revenues, it would be a hell of a lot better to keep the base price low and raise the tax. It's a lot easier to lower the tax back down than to lower the base price.

I may be a stinking liberal but I'm not an idiot. Taxes should be set at the level needed to provide services. Getting more tax revenue should not be a goal unto itself. The goal is to figure out what services we want to provide, and set the taxes appropriately.

This is a surprisingly rare position. The GOP is basically split into two camps. The first is to lower taxes and provide fewer services. The much larger group wants to lower taxes but still provide far more services than the taxes collected can pay for, and blame the resultant deficit on welfare queens. The Democratic party has a lot of people who instinctively know we need more taxes to pay for the services we provide, but the dearth of revenues has created a disconnect between the revenue and outgo - they just know we need more taxes, and they will blame the rich for not paying their fare share. At least the Democrats have a point in whom they blame.

And the base stupidity of this argument is that everything the government then does with those revenues costs more.
