I still can't believe you guys haven't all over this story about the Mayor of the town 2 miles from me, who owns a winery on my street, being lit up for 6 accusations of various levels of rape in an article in the SF Chronicle, then refusing to resign, saying that he's doing a lot of prayer to figure things out.
He responded after four days to the allegations by saying that some random Councilwoman had pressured HIM into sex and was blackmailing him about it. She then played back that he was blackmailing HER with compromising videos.
They had an emergency town meeting, which he refused to recuse himself from, so for three hours he's running the Zoom meeting, calmly calling upon a procession of the public for 3 minute public comment, comments laced with amazing levels of F-bombs. Finally he said "This is making me uncomfortable" and signed off.
The city council was short a member to begin with because he won the Mayorship and they have a special election to replace him. Then the woman who is accusing him of assault recused himself. So when he left, they weren't going to have a quorum, so one of the last two demanded a vote on a resolution he resign. It "passed" 2-1 with him voting no. It's non-binding but even if it was binding, you need 3 votes to pass.
Since he left and there was no quorum, they decided to now call it a "community meeting" and go with 2 more hours of public comment. The highlight was the next to last caller addressing the missing mayor directly "remember all those nights you wanted me to score you some cocaine and I always came through?" and finishing with "you sir, can fuck the highest levels of off". Unclear if him admitting to being a coke dealer will be an issue for him going forwards.
