Differing Strategy: The lethal military strikes were a departure from the U.S. Coast Guard's typical interdiction procedures, which involve stopping the vessels, seizing the drugs, and arresting the crew for prosecution and intelligence gathering.

Mourning the death of due process and international law.

Trump says it's is coming soon to domestic policy. Why bother with little things like search warrants, evidence, or trials? Blow up suspected drug houses in Black and Hispanic neighborhoods. If a few mistakes are made, no problem.

If Obama did something similar, it must be all right.

A lot of people on the left actually objected to Obama continuing the policies of W.

Many Democrats argued that the War on Terror should have been fought via law enforcement procedures. Republicans belittled that. Remember "enemy combattants?

That was still.a long way from calling drug runners "narco terrorists" thus  making them enemy combattants too. And I don't recall Obama's people killing survivors. .
 
And don't forget. Trump plans to bring this to US soil..

Trump said fentanyl! Actually, there was no evidence any of the boats carried any drugs. If there were drugs; most likely cocaine headed for Europe.

If you look more closely, that is still about synthetic opioids.

More on boats. The trip from Venezuela to the US is about 2000 NM plus. The range of those boats is said to be about 150 NM. They'd have to carry a lot extra fuel.

The nice thing about blowing up random boats in international waters?  You can claim all sorts of drugs were on it and no one can ever say different.

Whatever. I'm not in the supporting the cartels is a reasonable position camp.

Destroying the drugs is the target. Destroying the boat is the secondary target. They're not going back to finish off survivors.
