I still the think the concept of white privilege is nonsense. Every explanation I have seen comes down to conflating freedom from unfavorable prejudice as an unearned privilege. If true, the solution would be take away the unearned privilege. That would mean start pulling over people for driving while white.

The problem is not white privilege. It is systemic prejudice resulting in negative racial profiling, The solution is to stop pulling over black males because they all look like 'the composite' to the white cops. 

I wonder if there was a time when guys with ruddy complexions fit the description?

A white guy I work with lives in exurban Milwaukee and has four children with a white woman he refers to as his wife although they aren’t married. She has a name that “sounds black.” He has some interesting anecdotes.

Dude, a guy just shot 8 people in 3 different *asian* massage parlors in Atlanta, killing multiple Asians.

The cops have already blamed it on his "Sex Addiction"

Now that - is privilege.

A Cherokee County, Georgia, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson came under fire Wednesday afternoon for pinning the deadly Tuesday shooting rampage that left eight dead—including six Asian women—on a 21-year-old white man’s “very bad day.”

“Yesterday was a really bad day for him and this is what he did,” Baker said during the joint news conference with the Atlanta Police Department about 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long.

Are you implying that black men who go shoot up massage parlors should get the same treatment?

It looks to me  like the police have not determined the motive, but are open minded.  Is that due to white privilege or dictated by the evidence? Others look only at the ethnicity and gender of the victims; then automatically assume motive based on preconceived notions. Exactly what I said. To get rid of alleged white privilege; they have to prejudge white people. The only time a crime is not a hate crime is when the victim is a straight white male.

Generally the right wingnuts are worse, especially the Trumpists, but the left is guilty of moon battery and worse.

I am saying that there is still unequal treatment of white  and black people. However, I am saying this is generally due to unfair discrimination against black people rather than unearned fair treatment of white people. I do think wealthy white people who can afford lawyers and bribes enjoy special privileges. Wealthy black people have advantages too, with some caveats. We know a wealthy black was detained for breaking into his own home. This would not have happened to a rich white man. White privilege or racial prejudice? If the police started harassing rich white men for no reason, would you feel better? Or should they stop harassing black men for no reason?     


You appear to assume this young man in GA was motivated by hatred of Asians?  You also seem to assume the police feel empathy for him because he is a white man? Also, why is it a such a terrible thing that law enforcement see crimes as otherwise good people having bad days?  Is it only terrible if they say that about a white male?

I'll try it this way.

If we see the problem as unearned white privilege; then the corrective action implies denying the rights of white people. Worse yet, it elicits feelings of race based resentment and hostility against whites.   

If we see the problem as unfair discrimination, profiling, and prejudice against black people; then the corrective action involves restoring their rights. Also, promoting racial equality and individual need / merit.

So you're arguing that getting a leg up from the baseline compared to others is privilege, but being at baseline and others being below baseline is *not* privilege.

I'd say that your ability to make that sort of bizarre syntactical distinction without being slapped with a rotting fish - is privilege

A lot of young people will get hoisted on their own petard when they eventually get old and figure out what the fuck reading glasses are. If you look at that photo, where his glasses are, he could no more read a book with a mask than he could eat or drink, because he wouldn't be able to get his readers to the right focal length.

Now, we might decide "sorry man you can't read" or "You need to get an iPad with an e-book that you can zoom" - that might be entirely valid, but nobody should imply he could read the book otherwise.

Now THAT’S privilege! Any regular Joe would’ve been thrown off the plane immediately. Thrown in jail if they were black. Probably killed if they were Asian. But this elitist politician can break all the same rules they make and enforce on us. Cool.
