Careful sir, I just spent 2 hours in Reno. Why 2 hours? Because that's how long it took the toothless meth addict at Avis at the Reno airport to find my rental car. Somehow when I dropped it off at SFO, a person who could form complete sentences with a mouth that had actually teeth was able to process me inside of 2 minutes.

I will say there has been one major upgrade to Reno in the last few years. They built 580 making it a hell of a lot easier to get out of that dump

I graduated from UI in 12/03 and spent most of February and a good chunk of November 2004 in SF.

Walked a lot of the touristy and historic areas and downtown, GG, FW, etc. It was certainly eye opening even back then, I specifically remember seeing a black tranny in a sheer white undergarment flashing people from behind a popcorn cart.

Mistimed my departure from my hotel in November to get to the airport on a Sunday night and got caught in Niners traffic and missed my flight. Spent a long night in the airport and flew back in the morning.

Was there again for a short week in 09 and 11, didn’t notice much difference. Post-COVID it didn’t even feel like the same city. I know Murph spins this as a good thing, but I’m not convinced that gutting the center of one of America’s most vibrant cities with no real plan in place going forward is a net positive.

Not a good thing or a bad thing - just a thing.

Are you still using your landline? Things change. You talk of downtown SF emptying out post-COVID. It also emptied out for 60 hours starting at 5 PM every Friday since infinity. It's never really been the hub of the City, just where people worked. If you had a day and were visiting SF, and went downtown, I question your judgement. Nothing vibrant about 3 Embarcadero Center. A lot vibrant about Coit Tower, the Mission, Noe Valley, Crissy Field, Golden Gate Park, Ocean Beach, North Beach, the Marina, ATT Park, etc...

Even those Cable Cars that go halfway to the stars? They don't run to downtown (which isn't on one of the 7 hills).

I flew up, then rented a car to pick up new furnishings for the house that is on the correct side of NV-207, then drove it home with some of the old stuff to donate.

really we all need to take a page from Tim Walz and realize that yeah, there's some shit out there, some literal, some not so literal, but pretty much all of the US is freaking awesome, in its own way, and the fact that we have all these different awesome places is great. Everyone gets into a tizzy about how place X is crappy, then they visit and they love it. Missouri is pretty freaking weird but I really enjoy my Ozarks trip every year, even if I gain a few lbs eating the food, and complain that if I'm gonna eat unhealthy it should at least be decadent.

except Reno. Reno sucks.

Just kidding Q, I was driving past the Atlantis and Peppermill and really remembered some great times from the bad old days, sadly had no time to stop in and reminisce
