Some context:

Crime is down relative to massive spikes just a few years ago. But still up quite a bit compared to pre-pandemic levels. In 2021 people were worried about things like losing their jobs due to vaccine mandates, dealing with runaway inflation, whether Jan 6 was insurrection, etc. compared to now, so maybe that’s partly why crime has come into focus for them now?

Detroit is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1966, Asher found, while Baltimore and St Louis are on track to post the fewest murders in each city in nearly a decade. A few cities, including Memphis and Washington DC, are still seeing increases in their murder rates, but they are outliers.

every category of major crime except auto theft declined.

Auto theft will go the way of phone theft soon enough. Even cars that aren't Teslas will be brickable quite soon. People will get over the issue of privacy when they realize they don't have to worry about car theft and their insurance rates go down.

I’d pay good money to see Alum, Ray, Murph etc have a discussion with Officer Judd about illegal immigration.

I think Officer Judd would be better served to have a conversation with Mike Johnson and the other House leaders, who are blocking consideration of the Senate bi-partisan legislation on border security.

I don’t think a lot of independents are going to buy the blaming of republicans for the myriad immigration issues.

HR2 passed the House May 11 with no Democrat votes
The Democratic led Senate has done nothing with it for 10 months.

I agree, but a lot a independents also recognize that the House GOP is not interested in a comprehensive, bipartisan approach to the border security problem.

No Democrats in the House crossed the aisle for HR2 to make HR2 bipartisan.
HR2 was passed 10 months ago and died a quick death under Schumer

Bipartisan bills start in the Senate.

Why does it have to be attached to 40 billion more for Ukraine than for our own border security? Support for Ukraine is losing popularity and they’re keeping it on life support by lumping the funds in with something voters are more concerned with.

And yes the Republicans, in an election year, would be stupid to pass this less than ideal measure while conceding the money for Ukraine (and Asia and the Red Sea and Israel etc etc) AND let Biden claim a W for finally fixing the problem he let run rampant.

No reason standalone bills couldn’t be passed that address both issues separately. That would be responsible legislation though, which is way too much to ask for.

And 1 is a domestic issue while the others are foreign policy.

I try to avoid it as much as possible. Which is probably why it seems so insanely idiotic to have to earmark 60 billion to Ukraine, 15 billion to Israel, 5 billion to trading partners feeling aggression from China, to secure our own border down to 5k illegals a day. Politics as usual.

Short answer was "Yes."

If Ukraine falls, our own border may not matter.

Thing about "trading partners" is we make money by trading with them. If they fall apart, no money.

I guess that would solve the border problem by making the US a less pleasant place to be.
