I have no problem if Bill Maher wants to rail against college campuses that ban speakers with conservative ideas and of comedians who touch on “controversial” subjects.  Saying things like “pregnant people” and “Latinx” certainly merit an eyeroll, or a head shake as well. 

But over the years Maher’s developed an immature, conspiratorial streak too (hence the love from Custard and other right-wingers).  I think COVID just completely sent him around the bend.

I might be a tiche more concerned about the people who accept the banning of speakers with conservative ideas than what some late night host has to say about the idea.

Is there a reason that Maher picked an image of the Quad and the Illini Union when mentioning freshmen orientation ?

Can't argue with that. If folks don’t like a particular campus policy, write a letter, start a petition, or stage a protest (peaceful of course).  Just don’t sit on the sidelines and vent.   Where speech is an issue, I think it would be a healthy exercise for campus administrators to foster a discussion on the topic that allows students, staff, alumni and others to participate in a meaningful way.

Cancel culture, aka intolerance masquerading as morality, is a very intentional and integral part of the strategy. Might as well write a letter to Putin and ask him to leave Ukraine.
