That is exactly what is supposed to happen. Those who are caught entering illegally are subject to expedited deported.

One the problems is too many who enter illegally are not caught because the border patrol is currently overwhelmed..

If they appear at a legal point of entry seeking asylum, they are supposed to be given a court date and released.

About 90% keep all of their court dates. About 30% are granted asylum.

This is a lengthy process because there are only 500 immigration courts and less than 700 judges.

That is apparently why there are significant numbers of asylum seekers awaiting hearings with no place to go?

Using past data on court cases may be a stretch when the number of we no longer have a border crossings is unprecedented.

And herein lies the problem; MN wants to keep the political rhetoric and finger-pointing going indefinitely. This is the sort of thinking that will make it difficult for Republicans and Democrats to come together and reach a compromise on the issues.  It’s shortsighted and juvenile. 

We all recognize the situation at the southern border is a crisis.  I wouldn't be opposed to building new sections of a wall in strategic places. 

Bottom line: we should lock up both sides in a room and not let them out until they get a deal done.
