Aggressive Nationalism: America First. MAGA.

Xenophobia: Border wall. Tariffs. Scapegoating Muslims and Latinos. Blaming China for Covid without evidence. Etc.

Populism: Anti-intellectualism. Science denial. Trumpism.

Illiberalism / Anti-Democracy: Voter Suppression. Attempt to overturn free and fair election. The Independent State Legislature theory (Moore v. Harper)

Anti-communism.

Fusion of Industry and government: Crony Capitalism. Privatization schemes. Corporate Welfare. Private prisons. Military contractors.

Mixing religion with government: idea that Constitution is based on Bible.

Aggressive Law Enforcement

It completely lacked any of the characteristics of actual fascism. It was closer to socialism, except it lacked the 2 main characteristics of socialism; central planning and nationalization of the means of production. In fact, there could have been more effective central planning.

There is no actual definition of fascism. There is a general set of evolving characteristics.

The point of the article above is that Corporate Democrats like Clinton and Obama helped fuel the rise of Trumpist fascism by abandoning  or neglecting "its commitment to poverty and inequality reduction, regulation of business, and other progressive reforms.”

Trump didn't create it. He is basically an opportunistic  huckster who exploited what was there to exploit. In a sense, he filled a void.
