Maybe progressives should promote police choice?

"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

This could work if one was able gin up a favorable cost/benefit analysis.

Phrases like “Defund the police” are chosen because they are strong, jarring, and attention grabbing. Who’s going to give the “”knock knock: can we please reduce the policing footprint in America and reallocate some of those resources?” movement the time of day?

HA!  Ole Tommy seems to forget that Bama gets more federal funding per capita than OR or MN.

Implies he knew it and forgot it. Facts not in evidence.

Not knowing is an important qualification for the Southern Democrats a.k.a. Republican Party.

You won't hear them mention that Trump had already cut a bilateral deal with the Taliban and drawn troop levels down to a 20 year low.

"To stem the Taliban's momentum on the ground this spring, the Biden administration would have had to not only abrogate the Trump withdrawal agreement but also deploy more troops and get them more deeply involved in the fighting. This would have breached Biden's campaign commitment to end the war in Afghanistan and ran against the strong bipartisan public support for withdrawal."

Those terms of the agreement sound pretty good right about now.
This weekend was a disaster.

Our ally to the north...
"Delivering remarks from a campaign stop in Markham, Ontario, the prime minister said he spoke to Clinton last night — just a day after the Afghan capital Kabul was captured by the Taliban — about the challenges now faced by women and girls in the country."

As of yesterday afternoon, Jake Sullivan said that Biden had not spoken with any foreign leaders.

I don't think I would have withdrawn, but the Afghan army did outnumber the Tallyban by 5 or 6 : 1. Those fuckers went all Simone Biles. Fuck them.

I was disillusioned with the left long ago. The only thing worse is the right.

My point is Trump did cut a unilateral deal with the Taliban in Feb 2000. The Afghan government did not sign on. Trump agreed to be out of there by May 2021. Trump drew troop levels down from 13600 to 2500 before Biden took office. Biden had few options.

Maybe he should have gotten everyone out sooner. I don't know if that was possible. Maybe he should have violated the Trump deal and sent a bunch of troops back in?

Edit:  Biden has more than doubled troop levels. "Another 1K US troops heading to Kabul, bringing total to 6,000"
