The point is she was "detained' at O'Hare, but released in Wisconsin with a dead cell phone and no way home.

There are similar stories. Two involved elderly sick men released in cold weather. One of them died.

Lots and lots of Illinois people pay really good money to go to Wisconsin. Lots of them move there. This chick for to go for free. Some time off the grid never hurt anyone.

The police detain and release people in the US, and other countries, routinely.

You'll notice the author included very little information about hostilities in the Middle East and a group of people of Pakistani descent with visa issues meeting up in Turkey, a country with a US State Dept travel advisory.
This was a work trip planned weeks in advance and nobody looked into the visa issue ?

The only people interviewed by the 'reporter' are family members and the Cook County Commissioner, for a quote. I didn't see a 'this is outrageous, she's innocent of all charges and accusations' from the attorney.
