It’s about a right-wing figure. Let’s just assume it was a lefty. Maybe it was a right-winger pissed off about Epstein. Looks like I’m not the only one jumping to conclusions.

I get your sentiment, but

"This is not acceptable" is really something you say to a kid who doesn't do his homework or his dishes.

An assassin is a broken person, you can't tell them or their ilk that "this is unacceptable" and they think, "Yeah, ok I won't do that, it's not acceptable".

What's not acceptable is creating broken persons, or for people who aren't broken using their megaphone to try to activate "normal" people in a fired up manner without understanding the implication that their rhetoric will have on broken people.

That's on our leadership, writ large. Kirk contributed, but he's not the core that started it - a symptom more than the virus.
