First, I did not hear it. My gut reaction was poor taste. Upon further review, I'd say possibly valid satire.

During the Obama years I followed some  Buddhist groups from yahoo to facebook.  I was one of the  token conservative when politics came up. Eventually got involved in some quasi-political groups. At first, I tended to find the tactics of both sides distasteful. It was not long before I found the so-called conservatives far worse. I don't recall anyone citing Rush. It was Alex Jones,  Stefan Molyneux,  Wayne Madsen, Charles C. Johnson  -- the ilk Rush once labeled as KooKs.  The crap I saw about Obama was brutally nasty, false, and malicious -- far worse than a magical negro parody piece. They even edited his speeches and quotes from his books to change the meaning. The fake news they spread about Michelle Obama and Valerie Jarrett was just as bad.

Your premise here implies that the Rush Limbaugh demographic understands satire. The crowds at Trump rallies would indicate otherwise.

According to Pew Research, Rush's core audience was better educated and /or better informed than the PBS NPR and CSPAN audiences. You are assuming a direct connection between Rush's audience and Trump's followers. I don't think so. Rush was losing audience and in danger of becoming irrelevant. In some big markets, his show was moved up the dial. My impression was he changed his positions, first to appeal to the Koch funded Tea Party, later to appeal to the Trump supporters. That  is my objection. Not that he used satire that offended the left. He sold out intellectual conservatism in favor of populist nationalism.

I’d imagine they were under pressure to do so and wanted to stay ahead of it. I understand the African dudes at the zoo being way over the top but not sure about the Asian with the pointy hat eating bowl of rice with chopsticks. Should I, being German, be offended by the image of a blonde man in lederhosen drinking from a beer stein?  I get that people are sensitive to what they view as stereotypical imagery but where do we draw the line?  Or does my opinion even matter given I’m white? Denigrating/mocking/making fun of a culture is bad. If a person makes an illustration to demonstrate how another person looks, WGAF? Lots of people in Asia still wear pointy hats and eat rice from bowls with chopsticks. If I moved to Asia and saw a kids book about Americans that had a dude in jeans and a flannel shirt and boots eating a cheeseburger it wouldn’t bother me a bit.
It depends on whether that stereotype is used in a discriminating manner. Germans aren’t discriminated against in the US, Chinese people are (and that discrimination was much worse in the past). So a caricature of a German person does nothing to damage you personally, where a caricature of a Chinese person may be used to discriminate.

Citation and link please?

According to a 2012 Pew Research Center Report on demographics and political views of news audiences, NPR did better than Rush on audience education and knowledge of current events.  Considerably better.
See:  https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2012/09/27/section-4-demographics-and-political-views-of-news-audiences/

I couldn’t find a more recent Pew Research report on the topic.

NPR is not the same thing as PBS. They even have different letters.

I'd like to see the link too, of course. But if his claim is true, it makes sense. For most of the day, the PBS audience is under 8 years old.

You mean they are smarter than dittoheads, or the pinheads that listen to NPR? Both?

Before I lay into you for citing that survey, I'll ask whether you read it.

Did you?

I think you're an honorable type (i.e. a person who values honor) so I believe you'll tell me the truth.

WaPo cited the survey.  I did not wade through it. WaPo is generally a credible source.

Clicked on the embedded link. Not sure where they got their conclusions. What I saw was dittoheads and pinheads were both near the top in both areas, with NPR having a slight edge. It still demonstrates the point I was feebly trying to make. At some point in time (2007?), 36% of Rush's audience were college grads, and half were well informed.   I'd guess a fair share could grasp satire. Especially when the host regularly reminded them that his how was a mix of irreverent satire  and serious discourse. I suppose a fair share also thought satire was some kind of wheel and discourse had something to do with sex.

The survey asked people if they knew who Peyton Manning and Beyonce are.
