I think that's the point here.  Whatever they would have tried would have died in the senate.  The current bill, according to Senate Repubs, is considerably more border protective than whatever the dems would have done on their own or with a GOP Prez.  Politics being played?  Of course, and for once, the dems are playing it better.  If this bill doesn't pass, all the "border mayhem" between now and election will be owned by the elephants.

In spite of everything the Dems said to oppose HR2 it was a stand alone border bill. It didn't address Ukraine funding, which has more to do with pushing the current Senate multi-pronged bill than immigration does. They want you to think it's an immigration bill. It's a Ukraine funding bill.
