FWIW, you’ve convinced me that Rush was slightly less of an awful piece of shit than I previously thought.

Personally, I don’t think that Rush regretting some of his comments should equal total redemption though. He was responsible for steering the national conversation in directions that were bigoted, insensitive, misogynistic, dangerous, etc. “Fuck your feelings” as a public political position is a direct result of his rhetoric. I think without Rush Limbaugh, Donald Trump is still a reality TV star.

The early Rush was pro-NAFTA and pro free trade. He saw the America first and tea bagger types as kooks. He also lost audience.

Note that Rush never endorsed a primary candidate and always supported the candidate. When he jumped on the Trump bandwagon, he regained audience share, but Rush was the follower, not the leader.

My point is he did not create Trump.

Trump was a product of Reform Party and Tea Party; which were revivals of the JBS and other, older xenophobic movements.
