I read on the National Palestinian Radio website that the Obama rule required the brakes for trains with at least 20 cars carrying toxic stuff. This train was under that 20 car minimum.
The 'we followed the regulations that have been in place since 2015' argument.

This appears to be an Obama rule issue. But Orange Man bad.

How exactly is this Obama's fault?  His regulation was not strict enough. Was Trump's deregulation an improvement?

If Obama would have made the stricter reg, Trump would not have dumped it.

The hazardous train categorization was an NTSB proposal that was not approved under Obama.
I didn't say it was Obama's fault.

And Trump's deregulation apparently is not a contributing factor in the East Palestine derailment.

NTSB initial finding is that it was preventable.

The mayor is jag off.  Right after it happened, he was interviewed and suggested it was best Biden not come.  He didn't want the POTUS entourage getting in everyone's way.  A week later he's on Fox Noise complaining that he didn't come.

If the train hadn't left the station, the accident wouldn't have happened.

Thanks, Obama.

I dunno why Republicans think pols showing up to tour the border or disaster sites is so important. Might as well send thoughts and prayers.

Stay home.  Send the experts.

The same reason Dems impose meaningless regs. Symbolism over substance.

“Rail workers, government officials, and industry analysts have long warned that such disasters are an expected consequence of an industry that has aggressively cut costs, slashed its workforce, and resisted regulation for years.”

Will be interesting to see if we learn anything from this derailment and take appropriate steps to prevent the next disaster.
