Has there been a worse President for US farmers than Donald Trump? More farmers likely to be forced out of business.

"He commented more than once that, 'You know, Hitler did some good things, too,'" Kelly recalled to The Times. Kelly said he would usually quash the conversation by saying "nothing (Hitler) did, you could argue, was good," but that Trump would occasionally bring up the topic again.

I notice the article doesn’t say anything about how until yesterday the markets were at multi year highs for corn and soybeans. They dropped hard yesterday when oil dropped, came back a bit today. Most row crop farmers order and pay for their fertilizer in the fall, winter at latest. On the flip side I have a customer who has 450,000 bushels of corn in storage that’s worth nearly $1 a more a bushel than it was at harvest time.

Corn -> Ethanol -> Gas

Oil prices go up, gas prices go up, ethanol prices go up, corn prices go up.

Good for your customer. Bad for everyone else.

You and others (especially the media) bitched about low crop prices all fall, even though they were basically identical to 2024 prices. Pick a (bike) lane, man!

If crop prices were going up because we created demand overseas, that would be good.
If crop prices are going up because we created inflation in the US, that is bad.

Crop prices almost always track to crude oil prices. Any halfway decent grain marketer took advantage of the multi-year high the last couple of weeks to sell inventory and forward market grain for fall delivery above the cost of production for the first time in a good while.

While most of us were benefiting from really low gas and egg prices the last few months, farmers were struggling. But now we are paying more for gas, but eggs are still cheap, and farmers are benefiting from improved crop prices.

This is the cyclical winner and loser nature of our economy. I told you to genius bitcoin a couple weeks ago. It’s only up 10% since then. Hope you listened!

Crop prices are going to because input prices are going up and yields will be lower, so speculators are driving up futures.

Why do crop prices track oil prices? Because fertilizer is oil. Oil prices are up because the shipping lane is fubar - for oil and for fertilizer

It doesn’t matter if you paid ahead for fertilizer months ago if it is stuck on a ship in the Persian gulf

Iran could keep the Strait of Hormuz closed for quite some time. Trump will own the world recession.
