Only N is really made using oil/LNG as a raw material. Ours is mostly made domestically from our own petroleum and the rest mostly comes from Canada or other neighboring countries.  Shipping UAN or NH3 across the world would be terribly inefficient and hazardous.

In row crops, dry fertilizer like MAP or DAP (plow down) goes on in the fall after the crop has been harvested. That’s already in the soil.

Spring applied fertilizer is usually liquid and goes on preplant and/or fairly early in the crop season. No one in the US is going to be waiting on UAN from the Middle East in May or early June to side dress corn. Why? Because the raw materials for stuff they need in 2-3 months wouldn’t be on a boat from Iran that takes half that time just to get here, let alone distribute it, manufacture finished product, and distribute that. It’s already here.

Trump has a problem.

His entire career has been built on messing with people who give a fuck. He’s using the same tactic with the Mullahs and the IRGC who do not give a fuck.

At around 6:50 a.m. in New York, S&P 500 e-Mini futures trading on the CME recorded a sharp and isolated jump in volume.
A similar pattern was observed in oil markets.
Roughly 15 minutes later, at 7:05 a.m., Trump sent a market-moving announcement about Iran on Truth Social.
